This Year's Model Updates:

A new high-performance model, the S60 R, will become available later in the year. Otherwise, minor changes are in store for Volvo's sport sedan for 2003. A leather-wrapped steering wheel, along with a stereo with a CD and a cassette deck, now grace the interior of the 2.4 and the 2.4T. The latter also gets foglights and wood dash trim in its standard equipment list. For the all-wheel-drive version, the 2.4 turbocharged engine receives a small bump in displacement and horsepower. Rain-sensing wipers and OnCall Plus (the telematics system) are available, and two new colors, Titanium Grey and Ruby Red, brighten the exterior.

Pros:
  • Long list of standard safety features, luxurious interior, powerful turbocharged engine in top-line T5 model, deceptively quick 2.4T power plant, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Handling lacks true sport-sedan precision, expensive optional equipment, torque steer in the T5 model.

Im thrilled with the handling of y S60. It hugs the road & didnt slip in the ice. I feel very safe with the car, besides the fact that its fun to drive. The driver seat is extremely comfortable too.

  • Beautiful Car - 2003 Volvo S60

I have had my S60 for about a month now and I absolutely love it. I went from a Lincoln LS to the S60 and was afraid that going to a much smaller car would be an issue but its not. True it is much smaller in the back seat, however I have not had any complaints (and if I do, they can get out an walk). The lines are nice and the interior is well laid out and very comfortable. I would recommend this car to anyone!

My wife and I leased the S60 2.4T. This car isnt perfect, but we love it none the less. None of the quirks we have found in it would cause us not to get the car again. I would have probably preferred a 3 series, but ruled it out because of rear-wheel drive and that arrogant stereo-type of BMW drivers. There are some things that I would have expected to be a little better in a car of this price (stickered at $36,000). The engine is kind of noisey. In my opinion, it should be whisper quiet. Also, when the AC compressor kicks on, you know it. I wish the car had more "nooks and crannies" to put stuff in. Storage space in the cabin is at a premium.

  • Buyer Beware - 2003 Volvo S60

This car has the worst quality of any I have owned! In the two years I have owned this car it has been in the shop four times for warranty work and has completely broken down where Volvo had to tow it to a dealership. Prior to owning this car I WAS a loyal Volvo driver. If you buy this model, proceed with caution.

  • Not A Family Car - 2003 Volvo S60

This car is great for just 2 people. If you have children do not buy this car. I have a 7 month old daughter. When we put her car seat in the car I have to have the passanger seat almost all the way forward. This makes it hard for my husband to go with me in the car since his knees are hitting the dash. I am looking at getting rid of it and I have only had it for 3 months

Nothing quite loke a car that audibly lets you know that it hates bumps in the road. Back to the dealership several times - they have no idea. Rattles and jars - even though the suspension is so loose it could be taken by a Ford Escort - oh yeah, who makes this car now? Should not be marketed as a sports sedan it does not even compare to the others in its class - A4, 3 series, etc.

  • Dont Buy Volvo S60 - 2003 Volvo S60

I have made several trips to the Service Department to repair the STC system. Overall the quality of the car is extremely poor, performance is very average. The only attribute this car has is comfortable front seats. Interior engine sound is very noisy. Nothing quite like a car that audibly lets you know that it hates bumps in the road. Transmission doesnt shift right. Any favorable rating on this site must of come from the dealerships.

  • S60 AWD - Slightly Sopoforic - 2003 Volvo S60

A sturdy car without a whole lot in the character department. I always felt safe. However, there wasnt much soul to the ride. AWD worked great in snow/ice. However, be warned that if you get a flat tire and there is slight wear on the tires, you must purchase 4 new tires. This increases the cost of ownership in my opinion.

  • Great commuter car - 2003 Volvo S60
    By -

This is my wifes car, she absolutely loves it. She commutes about 70 miles a day each way and the car is comfortable, reliable, and looks good to her peers. We love the manual transmission and regularly get 32 mpg. Our only complaint is that the backseat is a tight fit for a baby/infant seat. It holds adults fine.
