This Year's Model Updates:

A new high-performance model, the S60 R, will become available later in the year. Otherwise, minor changes are in store for Volvo's sport sedan for 2003. A leather-wrapped steering wheel, along with a stereo with a CD and a cassette deck, now grace the interior of the 2.4 and the 2.4T. The latter also gets foglights and wood dash trim in its standard equipment list. For the all-wheel-drive version, the 2.4 turbocharged engine receives a small bump in displacement and horsepower. Rain-sensing wipers and OnCall Plus (the telematics system) are available, and two new colors, Titanium Grey and Ruby Red, brighten the exterior.

Pros:
  • Long list of standard safety features, luxurious interior, powerful turbocharged engine in top-line T5 model, deceptively quick 2.4T power plant, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Handling lacks true sport-sedan precision, expensive optional equipment, torque steer in the T5 model.

  • S-60 AWD give it a look - 2003 Volvo S60

I tested the Audi A4, Acura TL,BMW 325, all good cars, but I found the Volvo to be the best all around. Although I only have 1k miles on the car, I am very pleased with my decision. Plenty of pick-up, very comfortable seats, well thought out interior, decent ride, handling, and braking. In my opinion one of the better looking exterior designs in its class. I would definately recommend. With the $4,500 "rebate", youd be hard pressed to find a better bang for the buck.

Unfortnately I had a 1999 S-80 T6 prior to buying the 2003 S-60 T5…….so far the S-60 is a great car but with only 626 miles … it is a wait and see game.

very expensive. mediocre fit and finish. sport model will cost you in tires no matter how careful. noisy. uncomfortable drivers seating even with power adjustment. cramped. lots of plastic.blind spots.unimpressive for the money. dealership price gouging. running lights will also cost you in bulbs and they are a challenge to change.stereo is ok, not great.cant believe there is no homefinder garage door opening system. exterior dents easily. overall, i wouldnt recommend this car for the price. you can do better, for sure.

A great deal, a beautiful car, very comfortable front seats (back is a little small) and smooth ride. Previously owned a Camry and looked at Avalon, Acura TL and Volvo. Volvos quality, styling, and comfort won hands down.

Too small in back seat. Excellent handling. Front passenger side not much leg room. Wonderful riding. Big disappointment: NO FOG LIGHTS!

  • Better than hoped for - 2003 Volvo S60

The combination of performance and great driving fun and luxury is unique in a car of this price. The interior feels rich more like cars in the 40K and up level. The 197HP engine is misleading. Cant explain it but as a previous owner of a modified 1999 Mustang GT...I do know what performance feels like. This car combines a strong engine with European drive feel and luxury (no cheap plastic parts like...Lexus, Acura, Infinity. This car is an affordable alternative to Mercedes and Jaguar.

  • Wow . . .Great car! - 2003 Volvo S60

The comfort, performance and handling are great. The driving experience is exhilarating. And in terms of safety, the car does live up to what its cracked up to be. I was hit by a Ford Explorer going 55 mph on my left front; it rolled; obviously totaled. The Volvo, $14k to fix. The frame & wheel-well was not affected at all. It was unreal. The car was driveable. And being inside, I didnt see him coming (which was good) so all I heard was this crunching metal sound. I didnt feel anything. It was the equivalent of going over a rail-road track. Very strange. There was myself, front passenger and a child in the left- rear. No injuries.

  • BAD IN THE SNOW - 2003 Volvo S60

I have owned 4 volvos. The s-60 being the 4th for my 18 year old daughter. I have owned mercedes, porches, and bmws. Volvos by far have always been more economical in my eyes. They do not have the power but they offer the protection. HOWEVER, I do not recommend using the s60 in the snow. My daughter got stuck 3 times in the past 3 snow storms that Connecticut had. The car gets no traction, slides from side to side is not a safe snow vehicle. I made a huge mistake by not buying the AWD s60, it is a DEFINITE must because this car cannot handle snow! She also complains that the heated seats are not warm enough.

By far, this is the best vehicle Ive ever owned. Performance is second to none and the car stops on a dime. Its also the safest car on the road. I very much respect a company whose main concern is the safety of passengers. If your in the market, trust me. Throw your BMW and Lexus brochures away. You have no idea what your in for with the Volvo.

  • Misterious Coldstart reaction - 2003 Volvo S60
    By -

I now own a 2003 S60 T5. My first try was a new 2002 S60T5 which was returned to Volvo because when cold starting the vehicle and placing it in gear the car would "choke" and jump. Now our 2003, brand new volvo S60 T5 is doing the same thing and the dealership cannot find what the problem is. This is very frustrating since im paying a fortune for the car, and my confidence in the reliability of the vehicle has been blemished. Im truly dissapointed in the ability of checking the vehicles system for faults, since Volvo appears unable to detect the fault.
