This Year's Model Updates:

A new high-performance model, the S60 R, will become available later in the year. Otherwise, minor changes are in store for Volvo's sport sedan for 2003. A leather-wrapped steering wheel, along with a stereo with a CD and a cassette deck, now grace the interior of the 2.4 and the 2.4T. The latter also gets foglights and wood dash trim in its standard equipment list. For the all-wheel-drive version, the 2.4 turbocharged engine receives a small bump in displacement and horsepower. Rain-sensing wipers and OnCall Plus (the telematics system) are available, and two new colors, Titanium Grey and Ruby Red, brighten the exterior.

Pros:
  • Long list of standard safety features, luxurious interior, powerful turbocharged engine in top-line T5 model, deceptively quick 2.4T power plant, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • Handling lacks true sport-sedan precision, expensive optional equipment, torque steer in the T5 model.

I had S60 AWD for 8 months. No problems. Fun to drive. Also considered AUDI and BMW. Definitely recommend

Excellent touring car with good power. Drives well in winter with the DSTC. Steering column controls are easily accessed.

  • Good But Could be Great - 2003 Volvo S60

The AWD S60 does deliver in looks, comfort and bad weather handling. Probably the best Ive ever had in snow. Extremely comfortable and great amenities. Safety should be great. The car is reasonably fast and can corner extremely well. The Achilles heel is a strange suspension that wiggles and jiggles you to the point of distraction. Most small road variations get translated into movement within the car - sharp, annoying and fatiguing. Ultimately I am less confident at speed than in say the Audi A-4, which felt much more solid.

This is my 5th Volvo and I couldnt be more pleased. Every time I buy a new car I test drive similar makes but always come back to the Volvo. My last Volvo was the S40; I wanted a bit more room and luxury and the S60 delivers on both. I chose the titanium grey with taupe leather. I look forward to driving it, its responsive, comfortable, fun and great to look at. My favorite Volvo by far!!

  • My 1st Volvo - 2003 Volvo S60

Several of my friends have owned Volvos for years. I never liked the older "box" type models. The S60 is a real good looking cars. Great features and the it has the best seats youll ever sit in. Dont let the 168 hp worry you -- the engine has plenty of power and torque. Very nice ride.

I tried to install an alarm system and the anti-theft system already present seems to clash with the new alarm system. Im still dealing with getting that worked out. Also, I live 150 miles from closest dealership and Ive been told that since Im still under factory warranty I will have to return to the dealership should any issues arise. I was told something TOTALLY different at the time of sale. So I feel a little bit misled. As for the car itself. It drives ok. I love the way it looks and have wanted a Volvo for years. A little disappointed with the ride and handling. I thought it would be slightly better.

I am on my third volvo and they have maintained their high level of quality. I continue to be impressed with the comfort and useability of the interior. The performance is lacking the oomph that many newer cars have. Great highway gas mileage (I get around 36 MPG highway). The backseat is lacking leg room, but is comfortable with two adults, three is a squeeze. I recommend Volvo to those looking for a comfortable, reliable car.

  • So Far So Good - 2003 Volvo S60

The S60 is my every day driver. I also drive a 98 Corvette convertible. The S60 isnt as much fun, but only a nut drives a Vette in Midwest Winter weather. I especially like the way it has handled this crummy weather weve had. Its sure-footed. My wife keeps commenting on how comfortable the seating is. I have to agree. I had read a review about some minor annoyances others have experienced with this model. So far I cant see what the complaining is about. Would there be some things Id like to see changed? Of course, since no car gets everything right. But for my monthly lease payment Im very satisfied.
