Overview & Reviews
A redesigned S40 was introduced halfway through the 2004 model year as a 2004.5 model. It continues into 2005 unchanged.
- Sharper handling than you would expect from a Volvo, T5 version offers quick acceleration, well-designed interior controls, long list of safety features, available all-wheel drive.
- Firm suspension can be choppy on the highway, average performance from the non-turbo engine.

Sensible Sports car - 2005 Volvo S40
By mountain driver - April 2 - 3:40 amI love my car! It handles the mountain canyon roads with assurance and enough power to make it fun. As soon to be empty nesters, I was looking to downsize from my Suburban but still have a safe car and it had to be fun. We had Volvos a long time ago but they were nothing like this car. We also drove BMW Z- not for year round. Audi TT Coupe- no sunroof! Honda Accord 6cyl MT6 speed Coupe- also great car, fun but everyone has a Honda. We plan to do some autocross this spring.

4yrs and still very happy - 2005 Volvo S40
By Grega - March 14 - 1:16 pmI would say its a car that has a lot of character. I was looking for a car not so typical, that would stay up to date for many years. Its different from the purposeless styles of a lot of GMS, Hondas, Toyotas, Nissans, Acuras, and Lexus types Im tired of seeing on the road. Still fun to drive and with a quality feel to it at a reasonable price. Its been 4 years and I still enjoy driving this car very much. I did have a few recalls and software glitches in the first year I bought it, nothing serious, but so far it has been quite reliable since. Pleasant Volvo dealer, although expensive outside of warranty, acts really professionally for the most part.

S40 - 2005 Volvo S40
By Eric - March 2 - 4:16 amThis is my first car that i purchased. Prior to this i was driving a GEO Prizm. This is a large upgrade. I own the 2.4i and even with the limited HP the car still has a deep growl when compared to other cars that i drove of a compareable price. I have never been happier driving my car.

2005 Volvo S40 T5 FWD Great and fun car! - 2005 Volvo S40
By khyelton - February 14 - 12:46 amI just turned 16 and my parents bought me this car for my first car. I have had it almost a year now, and it has almost 100,000 miles on it and it is just as great as the day I drove it off the lot. It handles great on country roads, and even better on interstates which is where I usually drive. It gets a combined average 25 MPG. I use 93 octane (premium) fuel and it seems to get better gas milage. I havent had any problems out of this car! It has been a great car, and look forward to driving it for another 10 years. Just had an oil chage, new brakes, tires, and detailed, and it is good as new! I have never had any trouble out of this car! Its an amazing car!

I love this car! - 2005 Volvo S40
By NewVolvoLover - January 5 - 5:10 amI fell in love with this car when it first came out. I also considered the Acura TSX, Mercedes C320 and the BMW 330XI. The Volvo won my heart after driving these other cars. Although the stylig inside some of them may be more detailed I stuck with the Volvo. This car is totally unique and looks really sharp on the road! The handling is awesome, the comfort level is perfect I couldnt ask for more. I have no doubt in my mind I made the right choice. I am getting an average of 24-25 MPG through the city so I cant complain there :)

Nothing but trouble - 2005 Volvo S40
By DSM - December 3 - 2:36 amI purchased my 05 S40 brand new back in November. As soon as I hit 3,000 miles everything went downhill. I found myself taking my car in for repairs more than I was driving it! In the 6 months that I owned it, it spent 45 days in the service department during 7 separate visits! And they couldnt even fix most of the problems! This was the worst decision I have ever made. Thanks to an attorney, I filed a lawsuit against Volvo and they were forced to purchase the car back. Never again will I buy another Volvo.

The Perfect Car for Me, Recommend It !! - 2005 Volvo S40
By mattkorey - November 19 - 8:46 pmThis was exactly what I wanted and after having it for 10 months I just love it. And the European delivery program is unbeatable. A free trip to Europe basically and a discount on the car. You keep looking for the catch and there isnt one. Im now a member of the cult of Volvo it appears. The car has a lot of get up and go and the body style is great looking. Love the black/black leather that I selected, looks so sharp. The interior is really cool as well, the console is very unique, as is the car overall. Its nice not seeing your car everywhere you look. Couldnt recommend it highly enough.

Overall Satisfied with Purchase - 2005 Volvo S40
By radubu - August 24 - 10:00 amPurchased the most basic car available, which offers quite a bit of value for the price. Using the car in the city for commuting purposes. The manual transmission is smooth, like the small/compact size. Purchased the car due to its high safety rankings -- trying to protect myself from the Monster trucks that most Americans prefer today. Overall happy, however, not satisfied with the gas consumption, which is a little on the high side for a manual.
