Overview & Reviews
The Sportwagen body style and diesel-fueled TDI engine debut for the 2009 VW Jetta. Unlike the previous-generation Jetta's TDI, this more powerful diesel engine is 50-state certified in terms of emissions. Other changes throughout the Jetta lineup include stability control, heated seats and heated washer nozzles added as standard equipment. The optional navigation system has also been substantially upgraded to include a touchscreen interface and a 30GB hard drive.
- Diverse selection of strong engines, upscale look and feel, comfortable seats, impressive cargo capacity in both body styles, pleasant ride.
- Below-average fuel economy with 2.5-liter engine, small backseat compared to midsize competitors.

2009 Jetta Wolfsburg - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
By brishimmel - October 25 - 2:49 pmI LOVE my Jetta. Before I started having problems with it I swore by VW and said my future cars would be VWs. Well in the past three weeks, that has changed. Once my Jetta hit 25k, everything went wrong. Check engine light always comes on, it has left me stranded two times in three weeks. Both times have been the fuel pump. The first time (3 weeks ago) the dealer said they replaced it, now I am doubting that they did. Now they are saying it is the fuel pump again. I called roadside asst which is still under my warranty and they charged me $250+ to have it towed to my dealer where I live. Again, love my Jetta but be sure you have $$ to fix it when it goes out of warranty.

This is a risky car to own. - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
By JamesG - October 25 - 2:00 amI just sold my 09 TDI Jetta today. I will miss it, it was SO much fun to drive on the high-way. Fuel pumps (HPFP) are failing in this model, repair can cost $8 - $10K. VW is being very wissy-washy about covering what appears to be a growing issue. To much risk for me, good luck if you decide to buy.

Great car!! - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
By Jay in Dallas - October 14 - 3:50 amI had never owned a front wheel drive, or a diesel or a Volkswagen. Im sold! The 6-speed manual shifts very smoothly and the engine has plenty of torque. It handles great - not much torque steer. Im 64" and am very comfortable on longer trips - even with the sunroof I have plenty of headroom. Huge trunk. The fit and finish couldnt be better. The safety features were a real selling point too. All that and 40 mpg. A lot of car for the money!

I Like it! - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
By Leigh - October 9 - 1:56 pmThis is my first new car in a long time after driving vans/mini-vans for the past 15 years. Handles great and very good acceleration when you want it. Feels real solid and sporty. I have 3900 miles on it and have been averaging 36 mpg. I am hoping that will improve in the summer to make up for the .80-1.00 more per gallon over gas.

Great SPORT wagon - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
By naessj - October 2 - 2:33 pmMoved up from a 2000 Golf GLS. The build quality is excellent, very good road feel and on the road track. Low-end torque from the 2.5 is a little disappointing (compared to the Golf), it can be stalled quite easily. That said, the car is great, wagon very roomy (almost as roomy as my 2004 Passat Wagon). I recommend this car to anyone.

Good car, but bad reliability, warranty - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
By Carlo Mirak - September 29 - 12:56 pmI have had this car for one year, and put 40,000 miles on it. The radio stopped working several weeks ago and a radio should not stop working after only 12 months. My warranty was up at this time because I am at 40,000 mi. And was told that it would cost me $980 not including tax and labor! I called the 1-800 number and was transferred to a "customer advocate" to hear my problem. I explained to them that if it was a moving part in the vehicle I would understand but this was outrageous to pay for something like the radio which should last longer than one year. I love german cars, however I am never going back to a volkswagen. No wonder they have 200 complaints out of every 1000 cars sold.

Just a test drive - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
By Bryan1280 - September 15 - 12:03 amFirst I should say that I only test drove the car. I found the seats to be very comfortable. I love that they lay almost flat (I like to nap during lunch). Heated seats were nice. I found 6th gear to be too weak and was downshifting to go uphill on the Highway. With the turbo the car feels faster than it is, but with the torque and MPG, this is the perfect cross country car. I just think that 6th gear is only good for flat driving.

15,000 mi Review - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
By goldshw - September 13 - 8:53 amI was a little reluctant to purchase a German car due to previous reports. I can truly say that my TDI is one of the best cars I have ever owned. Getting 47 mpg highway/36 mpg city. Great ride, great interior features & comfort. I love the TORQUE & six speed DSG. I highly recommend this car to anyone. I liked my Jetta TDI so much, I am buying a Golf TDI for my wife. Now with my Duramax, Jetta TDI & new Golf TDI, I am a all Diesel.

Love this car - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
By jcohio - September 7 - 10:13 amWith gas close to $4 a gallon, I decided it was time to part company with my SUV, so while at a local area VW Dealer picking up my sons Rabbit, I took a look at the 09 TDI sedan. Shopped around for about a month and then went back and purchased one. I have one of the original ones sent out to the dealers as a preview, white minus the green leaf decals, with their new outstanding automatic transmission. I couldnt be happier with this car, great mileage, 36 mpg city, and it handle like a true euro built driving machine. By the way, after only 2,500 miles the fuel mileage should improve once the engine is broke in.

The US needs more diesels like this - 2009 Volkswagen Jetta
By Rickallen - July 4 - 12:13 pmI bought this car as a replacement for a hybrid that just didnt cut it for me. The VW makes up for all of the performance and comfort trade-offs of a hybrid but with little penalty to the MPGs. I actually average about the same or better with diesel than I did with the hybrid - about 39 mpg over the life. Acceleration of the line makes passing slowpokes easy and squirting in and out of stop and go traffic is a breeze since it gives you "right now" torque. My only disappointments have been some annoying rattles, an audio system that gives me headaches, and no aux in if you have the ipod adapter. Other than that, I cant complain. I think Im spoiled for anything but diesel.
