This Year's Model Updates:

The base engine is now a 245-hp, 4.0-liter V6 that uses either a six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic. The optional 4.7-liter V8 now makes 282 hp and is coupled with a standard five-speed automatic transmission. Two-wheel-drive regular cabs are now available with a V8 engine, while four-wheel-drive Access Cabs can no longer be equipped with a V6. Regular cabs equipped with the V8 get a color-keyed grille and chrome front bumper, as well as vinyl flooring and a cloth bench seat. Two new alloy wheel designs are available on Access Cab and Double Cab models, and all Tundras get new headlamps and rear combination lamps. Inside, new gauges and an available navigation system with JBL audio spruce things up a bit. In addition, Double Cabs can now get a 60/40-split bench front seat for true six-passenger seating. Front side-impact airbags and full-length head curtain airbags are now available on Double Cabs.

Pros:
  • Smooth and refined V8, Toyota build quality and reliability, nimble off-road, most carlike of the full-size trucks.
Cons:
  • Lacks serious brawn for towing and hauling, narrow cabin, chintzy interior materials.

  • Great used buy - 2005 Toyota Tundra

Purchased truck with 65,500 miles on it and replaced two small dash bulbs and compass, but extended warranty took care of that. Other than that, the dash will rattle a little when cold, but truck is VERY sound. Power is very much still there with the 4.7 V8. I owned a (NEW) 2004 Chevy Suburban 4x4 and had 14 problems within 18 months of purchase. Ill definitely buy another Tundra!

This is my first truck. The ride is car like with just a bit more engine noise and vibration. Excellent comfort makes this truck easy to drive. Tons of torque while maintaining smooth shifts. No rattles and an excellent AM/FM CD with four speakers. Great visibility front, rear and sides. The tilt wheel is a must have because it allows for a comfortable driving position as well as making it easy to enter and exit the cab.

Its Fun and easy to enjoy. Yes it rides like a truck but than thats what it is. Only wish it had better access to the rear windows, the back of the rear seat folds up so when its time to clean the windows, it makes it hard to get at.

  • Solid since New - 2005 Toyota Tundra

I purchased my tundra new in 2005. It has been regularly serviced and to date I have had no issues outside of regular maintenance. Currently I have 69,000 miles and still have the original Dunlop OEM tires. It is about time to replace, but not bad for a truck. The interior is "ok", but the drivetrain is as smooth as silk. Mileage could be better, but it is a truck. Love the Limited slip diff, as well as the roll down rear window.

Excellent truck. Very smooth transmission, motor is very refined. Seats are very comfortable. Just bought truck on 7/16/05. Liked the truck and was able to get a good deal. This truck is much more refined then my 2000 F150. When you drive the Tundra it handles and drives (very nimble) like a much smaller truck than it is. Like the shallow bed (easier to reach over sides to get cargo out) I only have about 160 miles on it at this time. I have owned Ford trucks all my life. I had it narrowed down to the Tundra,Tacoma, and Honda Ridgeline. The Tundra was the only one I ended up test driving. My wife agreed that it is all around the best looking of the three.

  • Great Truck - 2005 Toyota Tundra

I bought a new 05 double cab... great truck. Its got a lot of power and handles very comfortable both on the highway and on the dirt. My mother-in-law has driven it and is very impressed. It is also very quiet for a truck. I can get 5 big adults in it plus a lot of stuff in the bed and pull a big boat and have no problems! Reliability has been perfect so far. I have about 19000 miles on it so far. I could drive this truck all day and never get tired. You cant go wrong with this truck.

  • Toyotas Reliability - 2005 Toyota Tundra

This pick-up is exceptional, it rides great, has the right power for my use, has an above average payload, can tow a boat easily, is very reliable. I havent had it for that long, but from owning previous Toyotas, I know Toyotas reliablility is their trademark.

  • Exactly what I expected - 2005 Toyota Tundra

sweet truck, no problems, and I have driven it 21,500 miles in 11 months! I not only tow, but also use my tundra as a 20k year commuter. I am getting 19-20 mpg hwy, 15-16 town, 9-12 towing. There isnt a rattle or squeak anywhere, love the power, radio, smooth ride, and handles better than anything from detroit. I can put 4 clients in it and feel proud, then tow all the toys. If Lexus made a truck, this would be it.

This is the best truck I have ever driven. The room inside the vehicle is amazing. Extremely durable. Worth every bit of money paid for. Drives like a luxury truck. I would have to say its quite fuel efficient. Handles very well on the snow. Overall the best vehicle I have ever driven.

  • Luxury Truck for 2005 - 2005 Toyota Tundra

I recently traded-up from the 04 Tundra. Great increase in power and a 5 speed tranny made the decision a "no- brainer". Toyota really has a winner with this years improvements. The Tranny has a feature that will automatically "kick-down" to the next lowest gear when it senses youve been coasting, greatly helping brake the vehicle.(something only found on higher priced motorhomes, etc.) This Truck is one smooth performer, the ride quality is better than the 90 Mercedes "560 SEL" I once owned. The electric Rear Window "roll-down" feature is nice, and long overdue. For ride, comfort, performance and "Large Truck MPG", Buy It! It wont disappoint you!
