Overview & Reviews
The base engine is now a 245-hp, 4.0-liter V6 that uses either a six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic. The optional 4.7-liter V8 now makes 282 hp and is coupled with a standard five-speed automatic transmission. Two-wheel-drive regular cabs are now available with a V8 engine, while four-wheel-drive Access Cabs can no longer be equipped with a V6. Regular cabs equipped with the V8 get a color-keyed grille and chrome front bumper, as well as vinyl flooring and a cloth bench seat. Two new alloy wheel designs are available on Access Cab and Double Cab models, and all Tundras get new headlamps and rear combination lamps. Inside, new gauges and an available navigation system with JBL audio spruce things up a bit. In addition, Double Cabs can now get a 60/40-split bench front seat for true six-passenger seating. Front side-impact airbags and full-length head curtain airbags are now available on Double Cabs.
- Smooth and refined V8, Toyota build quality and reliability, nimble off-road, most carlike of the full-size trucks.
- Lacks serious brawn for towing and hauling, narrow cabin, chintzy interior materials.

Not crazy about it. - 2005 Toyota Tundra
By srpeterson - November 17 - 10:13 amI like my Tundra V8 with the TRD package, but Im not crazy about it. Ride and handling are great. Ive had an irritating rumble/vibration that Toyota claims is a harmonic vibration from the exhaust and they have no fix for it. Live with it is their answer. Very disappointed with the gas mileage. From March to July 2005 I got 14 to 16 mpg. Since then I am averaging 11 to 12 mpg. This is for all round driving. I dont let the truck warm up forever before driving it so very little idling time. Getting some wind noise from somewhere around the windshield that wasnt there when I bought the truck. I have 7400 mi. on it now. Overall I think this is just a so - so vehicle.

Best full-size truck ever!!!! - 2005 Toyota Tundra
By Dave - October 13 - 9:23 pmWords can not convey how much I love my Tundra. It is by far the best full- size pickup on the road today. Sure it cant two a house but thats not a requirement of mine. For my use, its perfect. Extremely comfortable, gets good mpg for a truck (avg 16.5 in city/hwy mix) and seats 5-6 very comfortably. Its absolutely the best. I test drove every full-size truck on the market and the Tundra bested them all when you look at everything youre getting.

Awesome - 2005 Toyota Tundra
By Vaisey2485 - October 1 - 10:30 amI just traded up from a 2003 F-150 Lariat. This is my 1st Toyota and I love it. I found the interior to be a little less then what I anticipated. I thought my F-150 had a better interior pkg. But, where the interior lacks - the horsepower makes up for. It has such a smooth ride also. Best truck i ever had.

Reliable, reliable, reliable. And comfy. - 2005 Toyota Tundra
By joe_kickass - June 25 - 1:02 amThe best vehicle Ive ever owned. Smooth, powerful, comfortable, and above all else, RELIABLE. Quietest cab Ive ever ridden in. Ive got 114,00 miles on this 8 year-old truck, some of which have been very hard miles. Like 2 yards of concrete in the bed kind of hard. (Ive got air springs in the back, increasing payload and improving handling). Theres not even a rattle in the cab after 8 years. Tight as a drum. This thing has never needed anything more than standard maintenance. Ford, GM, and Dodge can say they have the better rig, but read the comments on those used trucks on this very website. You wont want anything but a Tundra when you do. Unless youre a dumb redneck.

Double cab and double utility - 2005 Toyota Tundra
By echodon - February 1 - 3:03 amAfter 4 months of driving in rain, snow, mud and winter mountain weather I am thrilled with this truck. Every time I drive it I can feel the quality in everything from the butter smooth, powerful V8 to the fantastic 5 speed automatic which has to be the smartest transmission I have ever used. When descending hills, a tap on the brake automatically downshifts the trans. What a great feature. The gas mileage is much better than expected, 16-18 MPG during real world road driving and a solid 15 MPG in town. The extra horsepower in the 2005 V8 is noticable and with the dual exhaust I installed, it gains another 10%. I have not found one thing yet to complain about on this truck.

2005 Tundra review - 2005 Toyota Tundra
By Don Miller - December 14 - 4:16 pmThis truck lives up to the toyota build quality. This is my third toyota in two years , and the first truck , any problems have been minor and fixed by dealers without question about where the vehicle was bought.

Vanilla with a twist - 2005 Toyota Tundra
By DW - November 13 - 12:30 amI looked at every make of double cab I could find. Sure the Titan appealed to my inner-gorilla, but it didnt handle as well or feel as solidly built as the Tundra. Plus the torque seems better & placed where youd need it on a daily basis. The new Tacoma is sharp, but too small. Im 63" & haul a wife, 2 kids, camping gear, kayaks mountain bikes and a dog and the Tundra does it all without missing a beat. Its got plain jane styling on the outside, big deal: this truck is quiet, packed with power, handles well, will probably go 300k+ miles and is cavernous inside (for most). Only complaint is a phantom creak in the drivers seat when making right turns
