Overview & Reviews
The Sequoia is virtually unchanged for 2002. SR5 models have two additional stand-alone options this year: keyless remote and front foglamps.
- Ultra-refined drivetrain, surprisingly agile handling, versatile and comfortable interior, impeccable build quality.
- Non-descript styling, comparably low towing capacity.

Great Vehicle, but something is missing - 2002 Toyota Sequoia
By JPell - December 25 - 2:00 amThis is an extemely reliable and safe purchase in the large SUV class. However, for $40K, something is missing. I test drove the loaded Highlander and felt like it had a much classier appeal.

Oh what a feeling - 2002 Toyota Sequoia
By fourxfour - November 12 - 2:00 amThis is a great truck. I love the ride, the room and the looks and the performance. I checked out the comp. and the Yukon Denali costs more and its interior is too cheap and plastic looking. The Fords ride was very unappealing. I have found the wind noise from the front window molding to be irritating, Im told they are working on a fix. The thermometer is not accurate when it gets colder than -22. The dealer doesnt tell you that they have a governor that kicks in at 100mph. We have had ours for about a year now and these are my gripes for now. This may sound negative but its not we love the truck just some bugs need to be addressed.

2002 4WD Sequoia - 2002 Toyota Sequoia
By Prefers Harleys - September 28 - 3:33 amBought new in 2002 and now have 110K miles on vehicle with little problems. After 2 years, rear window got REAL sluggish, so we left it up for a year afraid it would break. Toyota told us they had replaced a lot of motors. Waited one year, did nothing, works fine now. Too big to really go brush busting but wife likes it. I prefer my 1985 Land Cruiser. Parking brake stinks and truck lurchs forward after applying brake on slight incline. 3 weeks after brake service can drive 55 mph with parking brake on before realizing its on. Sister bought an 06, no parking brake problem. Mileage improved after 100K. Now we get 16.6 mpg in Georgia. Only get 6 mpg pulling 3500 pound boat though.

Hood Protector, Tires - 2002 Toyota Sequoia
By ironmike - September 7 - 2:00 amI have a hood protector (factory installed)that deflects every piece of debris from the road into my windshield. It looks as if someone took shots at my car...about 20 cracks. The dunlop tires put on the 2002 models were junk that had no treadwear. Replaced them after 22,000 miles. 2001 model had michelin ltx, which are great. Oil gauge went bad, and fuel latch was on service bulletin. Could not put gas in my car, until it was fixed. All else is well.

Excellent all-around vehicle - 2002 Toyota Sequoia
By offroad - July 30 - 3:03 pmThis is a great alternative to a Tahoe or Expedition. They handle well for a fullsize truck and cornering is flat with slight understeer when pushed too far. The traction control seems to do more harm than good. No way to turn it off either. Almost got it stuck 3 weeks after purchase going places I previously took my 4x4 pickup. Climbing a muddy hill, engine cuts power when tires slip leaving you with no momentum. Even with street tires, it should do better.

Mama loves this SUV - 2002 Toyota Sequoia
By Cuz44 - March 27 - 10:00 amLooked at the RX300 and MDX but they were either too small or rode too roughly. The Sequoia does neither. Both intown and highway driving are a pleasure and my wife loves the height, visibility and secure feeling she gets. Toyota quality helps, as well. So far, so good; we both are enjoying this vehicle.

brakes - 2002 Toyota Sequoia
By pamphil@vvm.com - January 6 - 10:00 amI love my truck. My only complaint is the brakes. I think the brakes arent strong enough for the vehicle. I can drive 55 mph with the emergency brake on! that is after it being adjusted.

Sequoia Review - 2002 Toyota Sequoia
By Chad Gosda - December 28 - 10:00 amVery quiet ride and engine; extremely reliable; very spacious, with great usability and versatility on use of the cabin/cargo space; easy to operate; respectable gas mileage, better than peers; for such a powerful V-8, nice look. Do know that this is a large, full-size vehicle, tougher to manuever and drive for those inexperienced.

Not impressed - what next? - 2002 Toyota Sequoia
By Very high maintenanc - December 27 - 7:53 amLift gate window motor went out right after warranty expired, 3 years old, Ive replaced all the interior door handles because they broke off ($100 a pop), constant brake problems, $500 avg price to fix every time the rotors have to be machined and brake pads changed, which is about once a year. Ive spent about $4000 in repairs due to poor build.
