Overview & Reviews
The RAV4 has been fully redesigned for 2006, boasting a larger overall size and available V6 power.
- Steers and handles like a car, thoughtful and roomy cabin design, exemplary build and materials quality, available third-row seating, refined and powerful engines.
- Cramped seating for third-row passengers, more expensive than many competing compact SUVs.

Excellent vehicle w/ a couple of quarks - 2006 Toyota RAV4
By matt621 - December 5 - 7:43 pmExcellent acceleration & good handling. (V6, AWD, w/ sport pkg.) Lots of room, drives very nice. Super nice ride. In fact, maybe too nice. Could use a little tighter suspension. Took on a 10K mile trip and other than sagging, pulling and poor fuel economy (see below) had a very nice trip. Front seats are okay to drive in, but forget about sleeping in them. On long trips we frequently stop at rest stops to get a little sleep and these seats are horrible trying to sleep in them. Dont even think about it. Couldnt sleep in the back, too much stuff. :) Overall a very good vehicle that we use everyday to its fullest.

Pats review of 2006 RAV4 - 2006 Toyota RAV4
By Pat in Kentucky - August 14 - 2:16 pmEstimated gas mileage is not correct. It has lots of road noise. Has been dented very easily in parking lot, the metal is very thin. We bought the base model with mag wheels, black luggage rack, 6 airbags, floor mats and grocery cargo net, we paid for the extras. The spare tire cover faded very quickly and was exchanged for a one time only exchange. This cover has faded again and is purple instead of the midnight blue the real car color. I was told by the dealership there was nothing else that could be done. I am not happy, and I will not purchase another Toyota product. When other people see the purple tire cover they ask questions!!

Bad Engine - 2006 Toyota RAV4
By Tracy - October 14 - 1:50 pmI was having some issues regarding quality - replaced ECU and water pump and for the last 25,000 miles Ive had an oil issue and was told last week that I need a new engine. A new engine with less that 100,000 miles. Dont buy a Toyota.

Expected a little more! - 2006 Toyota RAV4
By cayugajim - September 6 - 12:56 amIll begin by saying that my RAV4 was purchased to replace a 2002 Buick Rendezvous. So for comparison purposes, the RAV is a far superior vehicle. However, the 4 cyl in my base model is underpowered and hesitates when cold. According to the dealer, this is normal and part of the vehicles computer program to maximize efficiency. Fuel economy is also a bit disappointing. With a ratio of 70/30 city/hwy driving, Ive never exceeded 22 mpg (usually around 20). On the plus side, the all wheel drive is great and the vehicle is very reliable. Its also quite roomy and easy to drive. The hard plastic spare tire cover looks great, but is a bear to put back on!

New Buyer Reflection - 2006 Toyota RAV4
By Dan - August 29 - 2:20 amJust purchased a Rav4 with a V6. Given the size of the vehicle I had lowered expectations on comfort/ergonomics and general features. Pros to date - * Its quick. The V6 does indeed pack a punch. * Much roomier inside that its smallish outside might suggest. Cons to date - * Steering wheel is small and only telescopes a couple inches. When I move the seat to a comfortable position I feel like I am leaning forward to reach for the wheel. * Seats are small, compared to the larger SUVs. A sore posterior on longer trips has been the result as the body weight is less distributed.

A RAV4 for Retirement - 2006 Toyota RAV4
By Titanic - June 29 - 9:40 pmWe bought it to explore the US, Canada and South America. It has ample room for luggage. Its all plastic interior is well designed and built. The V6 is powerfull yet economical. The climat control works well yet the display can not be read in bright day light. As the RAV4 is defined as a truck, we expected it would have strong bumpers. When backing up into a light pole at 2 miles per hour we found out it has no bumper, just a cover. The damage was $2300, it damaged the rear door! The 4 wheel drive is great and fully automatic. The seats are firm but comfortable for long trips. Road noise is high on rough roads. Options are very expensive.

$mart Choice - 2006 Toyota RAV4
By stephen - April 6 - 8:23 pmPurchased vehicle new w/ leather, sunroof, JBL, 30 months/21K ago. Choice was based primarily on "return of investment" having shopped for used versions (CRV/RAV) realizing their high resale values. I am still pleased with my choice, my RAV is roomy, rattle free, comfortable, easy to live with, nimble, relatively quiet, dependable, versatile and averaging 23 mpg in mixed driving. Sure I see more exciting, faster, sexier choices out there (I still struggle with the tire on the back) but whether hauling 4 adults to the airport, 3 dogs to the groomer or 30 bags of mulch I am hard pressed to find another vehicle that comes close to doing them all as well. The RAV has been a $mart choice.
