  • UNRELIABLE - 2006 Toyota RAV4

Unreliable for the long run. Had several warranty repairs, rear shock absorbers, water pump, steering shaft. Then after 60000 kms no support from Toyota Canada. Try and do repairs through the dealers and end up paying 2 times the price on parts alone.

  • New 2006 is awful!! - 2006 Toyota RAV4

I previously had a 1997 Toyota Rav4 that was much superior to this piece of junk. The 2006 model is cheap and nasty. The metallic covered pieces in the interior are already scuffed and scratched and have to be touched up or repainted. The AC knob has been pushed through the console and needs to fixed. I have dogs and the inside is already showing scratch marks on the inside door panels. Never had any of these problems with the 1997 Rav4 and wish I could have my old car back. The 2006 is not made for any off roading of hauling of objects, the inside is just too delicate. Another problem is that the 4 cylinder response lags. Want to get rid of this car ASAP.

  • T-SB-0094-11 Engine Oil Consumption Engine Problems Engine Noise - 2006 Toyota RAV4
    By -

Our Vehicle: RAV4 4-Cyl Limited (As in Limited Quality) Our Dealership: Colonial Toyota of Lincoln RI. This is my wifes daily driver. After 50k miles, the vehicle has the following problem: Technical Service Bulletin (TSP) T-SB-0094-11. About a month ago the engine light came on, after running an oil consumption test on our vehicle, the service manager said that it “only” burned 1 quart of engine oil in 1000 miles, which they said was within specifications. This I do not buy given my 2003 Honda Accord LX with 165,000 miles, had never had engine oil consumption issues. The engine output power seems to be in declined. The engine noise within the cabin is worst than my Accord!

The most uncomfortable vehicle Ive ever owned. Seats are very hard. Road noise is so high the music must be loud and passengers cannot talk on cells phones when driving on the highway. Wind in the cab also makes it impossible to cruise with the windows down. One feature I like is the braking system. Very nice.

  • Could Be Better - 2006 Toyota RAV4

Ride is too rough and bumpy/ Highway noise very loud on most pavements..have to raise volume on radio/ Paint job inadequate...peels off very easily especially around bumper and fenders/ Gas mileage: 16mpg all city driving... alot of stop and go and between 24 and 27 on highway at 65 to 70mph/ Problems with steering column (Replaced)/ Hard to handle when passing another vehicle on highway...wants to go out of control/ I am just waiting to build some equity on this vehicle to buy something else.

  • Poor design - 2006 Toyota RAV4

Ive now owned three Ravs and every one has developed a creeky noise in the windshield and this one has a leak at the top of the windshield. The rear compartment has a light in the door which points away from the interior when it is opened. The compartment is dark. The rear door opens sideways which offers no cover from the elements and rear visibility is poor. The ABS works poorly on ice and snow. It pumped my foot off the brake pedal. The all wheel drive doesnt work well to get me out of my driveway. No way would I buy another. The dealer has been very helpful and pleasant to work with. But they havent been able to fix the windshield problems. Think I may switch to Subaru.

  • Problematic 2006 RAV4 V6 Limited - 2006 Toyota RAV4

We were so excited to hear that Toyota was building a V6 RAV4. After owning a 1999 RAV4 L for many years, we were ready for a bigger and more powerful RAV4. But because we couldnt get a good trade-in value for our 1999 RAV4, we decided to keep it. That was probably the best thing we ever did. While this RAV4 with the V6 engine si fun to drive, owning it is not fun at all. From whining sound coming from the fuel pump, to grumbling sound caused by the AWDs ECU, to prematurely failed wheel bearings, to knocking steering wheel column, to rusted through "Stainless steel" muffler, to failing ignition coils, and leaking oil lines that almost bursted. Now we have to replace the water pump. Sigh

  • Very Disappointed - 2006 Toyota RAV4

The reason Ive given this vehicle such a low rating is it has left me in an unsafe situation more than once. Twice when I was trying to pull into another lane of traffic the automatic transmission did not downshift, but instead stayed in a higher gear and left me in a scary position with oncoming traffic. This is why I gave it such a low rating in the perfomance, fun to drive, build quality and reliability areas. During the first couple thousand miles the brakes would fade even during the first hard braking. They are better now, but it seems the me larger/better brakes are called for on the vehicle. Gas mileage could be better, but it seems to be improving with mileage.

  • RAV4 I$ A LEMON!! - 2006 Toyota RAV4

I commute from the SF Bay Area to Sacramento,70 miles each way. The stretch of freeway is rough & you feel every bump in the road. The seats are stiff and not enough thigh support. I had to get the brakes replaced at 40k with almost all freeway driving, not stop & go. The car sometimes doesnt start immediately (since purchase) and what I hate most is you cant get the key out of the ignition without moving the gear shift in park back & forth. The dealer says NOTHING WRONG... It had a major oil leak (covered w/power train) air noise from windshield, and rear door. rattles if not on a completely smooth surface. Needs torque & power to rear wheels in turns, & quick acceleration r feels unstable

  • Disappointing - 2006 Toyota RAV4

The climate control display and radio displays are awful. You can barely see them in regular light but in sunlight they are impossible. It would have been so simple for Toyota to use the same type of display for these items as the odometer. The rear window is fixed and the rear door is heavy and opens to the side. Mileage is terrible.
