Overview & Reviews
Toyota now offers a slightly decontented "standard" Prius model that lacks cruise control and heated mirrors but in exchange has a significantly lower base price.
- Outstanding fuel economy, low emissions, generous amount of interior space, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, space-age interior design, a lower price for 2008.
- Less powerful and agile than other midsize sedans, a few disappointing interior plastics.

Poor tire and Nagivation Problems - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Pro. Env. Eng - December 25 - 4:00 pmThe typical Goodyear Integrity tires are very poor under wet and light snow conditions. My research at Tire Rack confirms my experience. I have decided to install Michelin Primacy MXV4s to increase the safety of driving under all conditions in eastern KS. The navigation suddenly lost its Bluetooth functions on the NAV system screen, no telephone icon anymore.

Where are the Li-ion batteries on Prius? - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Whoofer - September 10 - 2:26 amQuiet as long as you arent pulling a mountain or hill. Needs more powerful and better batteries to allow the engine to turn on less.

The Devil Is In the Details - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Savannah Cook - December 4 - 3:40 pmI had done so much research on the Prius that I was totally confident in my purchase. I have been so disappointed in some of the design features. The rear window is difficult to see out of because of a bar running horizontally across ... the dash dims when the headlights are turned on, making it difficult to see how fast you are going, and the dash is difficult to see in bright sunlight. The car salesman raved about the new seat fabric, but it is already stained. I would have preferred leather, but was talked out of it. Of course, the gas mileage cant be beat, but its a shame the other elements dont measure up.

Honest Opinion - 2008 Toyota Prius
By SR - October 2 - 5:30 amHybrids are the shape of things to come, & from my test drives of available makes, Toy is on top of the game as usual. Driver & passenger comfort good with impressive haul space. Fun driving? Hey, its a single gear electric car! Heres my honest take of pros & cons. The Prius is a great car for city, flat highways & perfect conditions. Its biggest downside is over engineered aerodynamics. Introduce a hill, kiss your mpg goodbye. Introduce wind, kiss your wife goodbye. Handles snow & ice superbly, gravel & bumps are Kryptonite. A quick car, after the initial hesitation from a standstill. Tires wear 30% faster. Dangerously quiet for pedestrians. Buy the service contract.

Great car; poor tire wear - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Martha - January 31 - 5:23 amLove the Toyota Prius, but the tire wear on the original tires is terrible. I will not have my car serviced at a dealer; Sullivan Tire told me that the rear end needed shimming fresh out of the factory. I confronted the dealer and they said "that may be the case, but Toyota will not do anything about it." The tires need replacing after 32000 miles. The car isnt 2 years old yet and already I have to spend $950.

Need to improve build quality - 2008 Toyota Prius
By eric - October 30 - 10:43 pmOnly have the car a less than a month, already hear rattling noise right under the windshield; this noise goes away when I press down the panels (panels on both driver and passager sides are loose!!). Very disappointed.

Downsize - for fun and "profit" - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Tomm - October 28 - 2:50 amGot rid of my relatively new Audi A6 with every option for a loaded 08 Prius a couple of weeks ago. Couldnt be happier. Maybe I am being small-minded [averaging 48 MPG of regular gas], but the car is fun to drive, holds the highway/road, and no difficult electronics.

Prius is it worth it? - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Henry Amon - July 25 - 4:50 amThe gas mileage is great. The interior could use a little better quality. Ive had a molding come loose and the design of the instruments in some places is great and in others confusing. It feels great but is a bit loud. I think its worth it but dont expect ,luxury.

Something different - 2008 Toyota Prius
By GaryL - June 12 - 6:40 amOverall, a wonderful vehicle. I like: gas mileage, ride comfort, hatchback storage, reliability, price. Handling & performance are good, not great. Dont like: digital odometer, gauges, controls and LCD panel that substitutes for these; complexity of built-in GPS (buy a free-standing one); a too small gas fill pipe; complexity of rear-view mirror, which doesnt open my garage door, as advertised; bar across rear window that limits visibility; occasionally HAL (the computer) gets confused about when to turn the engine on and when to turn it off; Id prefer a handbrake instead of a footbrake. Its easy to leave the car on when leaving it - remember push "off."

2008 Prius 1st 6 months - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Lloyd - February 10 - 10:06 pmMost bi-polar (some pun intended) car I have ever owned. Great around town fuel economy 40mpg actual! Corners ok but absolutely numb road feel. Surprisingly roomy for size. Good utility from the hatch. Rear camera slow to come. Requires extra care when backing. Keyless features work great. Not sold on the touch panel climate control. Visors, shifter and steering wheel controls toy like. Too easily bottoms in some road conditions.
