This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

  • We love our Prius - especially w/ $4 gas - 2005 Toyota Prius

We love our Prius - great hauling capacity with hatch and flip-down rear seats. We are especially glad that we own it since gas is now over $4 a gallon.

This is definitely the best car I have ever driven in my life. This is an extremely fun to drive, quiet, head- turner. We live in the hills in the suburbs of Los Angeles and get about 43-45 MPG with the A/C on and around 48-50 MPG without the A/C. Trunk space is amazing with the 60/40 split from the back seats. Im probably the only one in the U.S. using the Prius to pick up CARGO SHIPMENTS. Normally pick up around CARGO boxes (up to 8 boxes 400 lbs) from LAX to my office.

I am only 16 years of age and I Love this car. I have only put 1500 miles on the car so far so that is must likely the reason the millage is not that good. However, it has increased form 25mpg when i first got it. I am going to get new rims and make it look more sporty. i would recommend anyone this car who has a consience about the enviorment

A great car for driving and economy

  • Prius - It could be better. - 2005 Toyota Prius

Engine noisy during acceleration. A rattle developed in the dash and the service department cannot seem to fix it. The Prius has a small fuel tank (only 11 gallons) - which means that the driving range is not far - though gas mileage is good. The Honda Civic Hybrid has a standard tank (13 gallons) and much longer range. If I had it to do again I would go for the Civic or no hybrid at all.

I just bought this car last week, so I dont have too much experience with it yet. I love the way it handles and the futuristic display. The navigation system is top rate and I would recommend this car to anyone who evironmental aware and wants great gas mileage.

  • Disapointing gas milage - 2005 Toyota Prius
    By -

The best milage I have gotten with this car is 51mpg. It started averaging about 47. It has been declining steadily. It now gets in the upper 30s to low 40s. The dealer only makes excuses. The car starts the gasoline engine every time it is started even with a warm engine and good battery charge. Sometimes it kicks in the gas with just a touch of the excelerator pedal. The dealer seems to indicate that there is no way to check the computer or upgrade firmware. All concidered, comfort, utility of the hatch back and fold down seats and usually getting milage in the low 40s in town on short trips, I guess I cant complain when compaired to gasoline models with the same features.

  • My Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius

I find my Prius to have plenty of power when I need it. I enjoy watching the mileage indicator hovering around 50 mpg just driving around. I sometimes hit 58 mpg on the highway. I really appreciate that I only fill it up once every two weeks.

Havent had the car long. Super in winter driving. Better stability than thought with a narrow wheel base. Hugs the road. Stuck in traffic once, and the gasoline engine never came on!

  • Like the Car - 2005 Toyota Prius
    By -

Approximately 8000 miles into it, and I still like to drive it. It is quiet and smooth running, enough power to keep out of the way of the SUVs and trucks. I have the GPS and keyless entry. I like the GPS, but the keyless entry is iffy. Mileage is about 75% of advertised, 45 mpg in summer, 42 in winter, with mixed driving. Does have a problem with stiff breezes (notice I didnt say gale force winds)and the rear window isnt easy to see through with the bar going across the lower half. The windshield wipers are childlike and cute. Cruise control awkward. Dash lighting poor. Cup holders dont work with coffee cups or mugs, just fits fast food drink cups. Wiper controls in poor location.
