This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Current gas milage: city 46, highway 51. Surprisingly comfortable. Easy drive and maneuverability. Good interior storage & glove boxes. Too much road noise unless all windows closed. Looking forward to seeing how hybrid evolve. Would buy this vehicle again (even tho is ugly). This is a one or two person car, 3 or 4 OK persons for short trips. Rear visibility poor. Would like more luggage room for long trips. Cruise, light and wiper controls need impovements--awkward to use. *Please note: reliability of vehicle unknown to me now. Will make judgement after longer ownership. Marked survey with a 5 because of unknowns.

Great gas mileage & reliability-- however, not 60-55, more like 45 miles per gal.

Dont expect the advertised 50 - 60 mpg. Best Ive done is 44 miles per gallon and Ive talked to other Prius owners with the same experience. Great road handling and ride. Fast 0-60 and actually, the faster you go the easier it is on gasoline since the electric engine kicks in. If you want a $20,000 model expect to wait two years for one. The upgrade to leather and nav system is well worth it. The Pirelli performance tires and fancy 17 inch wheels are prone to flats from potholes. This baby is fast with great speed and transmission.

This has been a great car so far. We average about 51 mpg even though we live on the side of a mountain and to a lot of mountain driving. I have not experienced a single problem with the Prius. My wife drives it most of the time and really loves it.

I am very impressed with the Prius. It is sooo quiet and runs so smoothly. The gas mileage is exactly what I expected. I average between 50 & 55 MPG. Those individual who claim that it gets less may have other contributing factors, such as hills, more freeway driving or a "heavy foot". My husband gets less MPG but that is because he drives it harder than I do. The seats are very comfortable and it is suprisingly spacious. The GPS is outdated right now, but that it because GPS units have to be manually updated. The dealerships have a CD that can update the car.

I love my car. I have driven a Jeep GC, Nissan 350Z rag top, 1979 vette, and this is my favorite. Overall this is a wonderful car. Can there be improvements, yes, any car can be improved. Great Price, spacious sedan, hatchback, this car is a dream. If you buy one, make sure to wave to other prius drivers on the road. Interior is from the year 2035. Very functional. The exterior is a little wierd, not for everyone, but I like it, its very aerodynamic.

  • Id buy it again - 2005 Toyota Prius

I affectionately call this my golf cart since at slower speeds, cornering, it feels so easy to drive and is so quiet. Like no other car Ive owned. It has good pick up on hills which are abundant where I live. It accelerates to acceptable speed quickly when getting on the freeway. Its a fun car. Speakers/sound isnt that full or great so if you want great sound, go buy a new sound system. If your phobic about fingerprints, this car is not for you. The dash area and touch screen always look smudgy no matter how many times you try and keep it clean. The handling is excellent though and Ive overlooked the other areas because of this.

  • Almost Perfect - 2005 Toyota Prius

Excellently designed vehicle, great (like every toyota I have ever driven) interior design. Dont believe the 60 MPG, around town I nominally get 50 during summer, and 45+ during winter, on the road drop that a mile or two.
