Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

  • Great Car! - 2005 Toyota Prius

I have had my Prius for about 6 months and I am nothing but pleased. I have not found that it has less power than other sedans because of the high amount of torque, I can burn rubber just about any time if I really wanted to do so. Also, in terms of the real-world driving, it is on par with 90% of cars that real world only get about 80-90% of the estimates. It just seems to be bigger because you see a bigger difference in 20% of 60 than 20% of 30. My lifetime MPG is slightly over 45, but this is from driving less than five minutes during colder temps. When we have done 20 min trips or longer, we average 50-55 mpg. I would buy another if I could afford it!

  • Fun and reliable vehicle - 2005 Toyota Prius

My 2005 Toyota Prius is the most fun to drive, best fuel economy (45-50 mpg) of real world driving that I have ever owned. The vehicle has a 1.5L gasoline engine along with 2 electric motors. This combination provides smooth rapid acceleration. The engines are quiet and vibration free. Controls are conveniently placed, most being duplicated with push buttons on the steering wheel. The interior is suprisingly large. With the rear seats folded down cargo hauling capability is like a small SUV. If you buy the Prius please carefully read the owners manual as the vehicle has some distinctive features different from other cars. The smart key sysem is very convenient. Test drive first.

We got this car because of the advertised gas mileage. We checked out both Honda and Toyota hybirds. This one was rated higher. The mileage is great. We took a trip to Forida right after we got it and averaged about 50 miles on the first tank on the trip. We then got 55 on the way back. It is smooth to drive and pick up is there when you need it. We now get 50 mpg or better and only fill the tank every 2 weeks and that is with 5.5 to 6 gallons. Sure alot cheaper than our other cars.

  • Not for TALL PEOPLE - 2005 Toyota Prius

The Prius is an excellent car, however, before you buy it you should test-sit in it. The slanted roof makes it almost impossible for anyone over 510" to comfortable see out of the windshield. Depending on your body build, you must test-sit in this vehicle to make sure you can confortably and safely drive this car. If you can, GREAT!!! Because it is a GREAT CAR, but ONLY if you fit in it.

  • Purview of the Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius

I was intrigued by the technology of the Prius and other Hybrid vehicles. After owning other Toyota vehicles and the dependability I have had, it was a given that I wanted the Toyota brand of a Hybrid. I am not sorry that I purchased this vehicle. The performance, agility, and dependability of this vehicle assures me that I made the right decision in sticking with Toyota. Even with mileage not at EPA predicitons, I cannot complain at what I average. Comfort is great and the ride feels like what the Camry delivers.

  • Prius is much more than youd expect! - 2005 Toyota Prius

I bought my Prius the day of hurricane Katrina. I was driving a Chevy Avalance which got 15 mpg and had a feeling that gas was going sky- high...and I was right! My Prius uses 2/3 less fuel and is a blast to drive! I never expected it to have so much power (yes, you can squeal the tires) or so much room (I can carry a string bass in the back!), or be so fun to drive! I have people looking at it all the time and have convinced several people to purchase their own Prius.

  • Prius is just about perfect - 2005 Toyota Prius

The car has more legroom and headroom, than my 2003 Camry. It is a relaxing and responsive road car. It handles the city-drive easily. I will only trade in this Prius on the 2009 which Toyota announced will get 100 mpg and cost less.

I purchased my 05 Prius couple of weeks ago and Im already getting excellent gas milage. With 5 people and a/c blasting, Im getting over 49 mpg. The car has less than 800 miles and cant wait for the break in period to be over to see what gas milage I can squeeze out of the car.

  • Loving it! - 2005 Toyota Prius

Having owned a loved the Prius for a year and a half, were about to buy another to become a Prius-only family. I cant imagine going back down on gas mileage from our around-50 average. The ergonomics are terrific. The space is perfectly usable. It has all the zip we need. Despite Toyotas prohibition, Im about to start doing light towing occasionally, which I think will be great. We have had absolutely no problems. Ive looked and looked, and there isnt another car on the market that stands up to this one.

  • Best little car on the road - 2005 Toyota Prius

Great car ! Fun to drive. It has saved us a ton with gas prices so high. I would highly recommend this car to everyone. Especially, if you live were there are hills and mountains. Gas mileage is amazing. You cant go wrong with this car! Toyota has out done themselves.
