We bought the matrix because of mileage and the avalable manual trans. My two boys hate riding in it (ages 8+9), because they cannot see out of the rear passenger windows. The rear seat is deep, which makes it impossible to see out the windows.

I needed a hatchback or a wagon for my mobile lifestyle. The Matrixs fuel economy and Toyota reliability drew me to it initially, and I am astonished at the fuel economy in my first 2 weeks of ownership. I have put 600 miles on it and am approaching 38-40 MPG in mostly highway driving. Its a quiet ride, with responsive handling and perky pickup. Its simple to load and unload, and transports folks with mobility problems easily.

The matrix xrs is a very interesting car/wagon. It looks small, but the inside is comfortable with 5 adults. It has a small wagon/suv stance but it handles as good as a $30000 sports car, its extremely tight and nimble. The engine has a lot of pep, especially at high rpms, it is rock solid at 120mph (trust me)and it gets 25+mpg around town. The 17inch wheels and 6 disc cd changer will cost you $300, thats cheap and worth it. It would be nice to have 30hp more and 30lbs of torque but thats were the afterparts market kicks in. Just think of the Matrix as a Celica GTS with a biggger trunk.

  • I love my car! - 2004 Toyota Matrix

The second I laid eyes on this car I knew it was going to be the one. It was one of only two cars I test drove; I needed to look no further. Manual transmission won out in the end. It offers a better feel of control as well as power. I get nothing but positive feedback and compliments on my car. Everyone I know really likes it. I love it!

I had purchased a 2003 Turbo Beetle in 2002 and was not happy with it because the check engine light started to come on for engine knocking with only 20,000 miles on it! I know I had warrenty on the thingy but buttons were falling off that I never touched and what not. So I had it with the Beetle. I was ready to go buy a Toyota which is what I had before and never had a single problem with it. I was very happy to find the Matrix because it was the perfect car for a college student! I will admit I do miss having my turbocharged engine, but when I found out you can put a supercharger on the Matrix that made me very happy!

  • The Matrix is a Great Choice - 2004 Toyota Matrix

I wanted a Matrix the first time I opened the hatchback and realized that the flat folding back seats would easily fit two bikes inside. And the high gas mileage. For a seemingly small car, it is so very roomy, for the driver and front and backseat passengers...and Ive had some bigger than average folks enjoying the ride. Its zippy, it get great gas mileage, it has a unique exterior style. I got the cosmic blue color and I love it.

I have currently just over 7500 miles on the Matrix and have had reasonable luck with the car. Service on the vehicle has thus far been normal oil/filter changes (every 3,000 miles), tire rotation at 5,000 miles, and 2 warranty repairs. The first was a replacement door on the compartment below the shifter - it would pop open at the slghtest bump - after replacement - it still does it. The second was a check engine light - oxygen sensor and catalytic converter replaced.

I love this car. My girlfriend and I looked at everything from the Jeep Grand Cherokee to the VW jetta TDI and we settled on the matrix because it is the perfect blend of fun, function, and value!
