  • Good car from Toyota - 2004 Toyota Matrix

All in all the Toyota matrix is a great car to drive. Couple things I dislike is the lack of power in the XR and base models. Also it seems that everything inside the car squeaks or rattles when you drive. Other than that, itÂ’s a great car made by another great company.

  • Excellent All Around Car - 2004 Toyota Matrix

Ive had the car more than 1 year. Mileage averages around 35mpg on combined city and highway. The build quality is excellent as expected. One complaint however. The AC stopped working for about 2 hours one day while on a long drive with customers in the car. After parking for about 3 hours the AC worked fine and never stopped again. Other than that, extremely versatile and the best car Ive ever owned. Ive had cars that were more fun to drive, like a VR6 VW, and a Jeep Wrangler, but neither beats the overall usefullness and dependability of this Matrix.

We bought 2! 2000 4Runner lease up & air went out on 1993 Escort ~ had to get 2 vehicles. "Sacrifice" coming down from 4Runner, "Plus" coming up from Escort. Bottom line, a happy medium & long term - Toyota dependability.

Fun to drive, great head/leg/cargo room, excellent gas mileage. A little "squirrly" with strong cross- winds, and when being passed by big rigs, but otherwise handles well.

03 XRS 6-sp. Solidly built, well designed. The XRS engine doesnt make good power until above 6000 rpm, which means that if you need to GO, you cant do it right away. Ours spends a lot of time on I-95, and the A/C condenser takes a lot of abuse from stones. We put chicken wire behind the grille to stop that. My only gripe is that the drivers seat and wheel/pedals are made for someone with short legs. It fits my wife perfectly, but if I sit close enough to the wheel to be comfortable, the pedals are too close. Im only 510". I suspect that it was designed with women in mind, who tend to have shorter legs.

  • Ok but gas isnt cheap - 2004 Toyota Matrix

Its supposed to get 25-32 mpg. but in reality, it gets 21-33 mpg depending on the driving you do. It revs about 3k rpm at 70mph and stays relativly quiet. Ive yet to drive it in snow but well see this winter. Its got a lot of room for stuff in back and the seats fold completely flat. It hauls my 69" fishing poles inside with ease between the bucket seats or with the front seat down. If I only had room to haul drywall, it would be a great value.

Been satisfied so far. No problems.

  • Breaking in car - new discoveries - 2004 Toyota Matrix

Bought Matrix new. Have 21,000 mi on car today. Mostly city driving with occasional road trip. Beginning to see minor degradation on interior moving parts - the "cheap" is revealing itself. Out-of-control acceleration happened to me 2 times. The accelerator just slams to the floorboard and wont let up. The first time in 70+ mph traffic - the second time 45+ traffic. Terrified me. Panic! Had to yank emergency handle and turn car off. It is a real experience and the dealer cant explain. I think its a defective chip in the master brain of some cars.

  • So far so good - 2004 Toyota Matrix

Love everything so far. Had it for 2 months and put about 3500 miles on it. I absolutely HATE the sunvisors and the reverse beeping.

  • Matrix the swiss army knife of cars - 2004 Toyota Matrix
    By -

The Toyota Matrix has to be one of the best Toyotas Ive owned. I have had sports cars, trucks, everything and this car seems to cover each of those vehicles needs perfectly. Its fast and fun as a daily driver, and gas mileage is excellent. Interior space is cavernous on the Matrix. I purchased an 8 Live Oak tree and fit it w/out bending into my Matrix with the hatchback fully closed! Enough said regarding that issue. Exterior wise, this car is very sleek and gives just a little hint of aggression in its lines. Very nice... Overall, you get a sports car, a truck, and a Toyota all in one.
