  • Great small car - 2003 Toyota Matrix

The Matrix has a good combination of features going for it. It gets very good gas mileage for a automatic transmission. It is distinctive and pleasing in appearance. It handles well. That is why I have rated it well.

  • The car that you really want - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I knew Toyota makes reliable cars but I always wanted something more youthful and attractive so I checked out the Camry SE. While in the showroom the Matrix caught my eye. I test drove the XR fully loaded and loved it. The appearance of the car made me think it would have a rough ride, but it didnt. I loved the way it looked and the interior with the red dash lights is awesome. Plus, the car is practical without giving this aspect away by the way it looks (sporty). The mpg isnt bad. Its roomy for 5 people too. I like the stock stereo system and plug-in outlet, which is cool to plug in my laptop.

  • Love Hate Relationship - 2003 Toyota Matrix

My wife and I love this car as much as we hate it. We love the look of the gauges at night...HATE gauges during the day because they are near impossible to see and forget trying to read the odometer (even with the windows being tinted). We love its sporty looks...HATE the low chin spoiler that scraps on the lowest of curbs, ramps, drifted snow, you name it. We love the transmission...HATE the clutch, which has the operation of a common light switch (i.e., its either on or it off...no give). We love the storage...HATE the cup holders.

  • My Matrix Jewel - 2003 Toyota Matrix

The Matrix I purchased has been a complete joy for me to own. I have had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever. The only thing i had happen with the car is to bottom out in a pot hole and mess up my front bumper. Other than that Id buy another one, no questions asked, unless they were to make changes to it that I didnt like.

  • usual toy. excellence - 2003 Toyota Matrix

My 3rd toy ever., all way superior to Amer./euro equivalents. Why pay $30k more for a beemer, volvo etc. sport wagon? the matrix is a sweet cornering, nice engine response, tough looking pocket rocket. Ive gotten 38 m.pg. (epa 29-36), I can fit 4 6 footers into it( large headroom and legrm). the only negative Ive had with itis the parking brake being too close to console. Otherwise its a solid solid vehicle.

  • The Snail - 2003 Toyota Matrix

My wife has owned this car for three years now. It averages about 28 mpg and its size is deceiving. Things I like: size, seat height, fuel econmomy. Things I hate: performance - it cant hardly get out of its own way. This is the worst performing car we have ever owned. Seating position in relation to the steering wheel, console and door arm rest. Who designed this? My knee is against the shifter console and my arms are straight out to reach the wheel. The door arm rest is too far back as is the storage console to rest your arm while holding the wheel, if you can reach it. POOR Performing AC unit. This car has too much glass and not enough cooling capacity.

  • Spoiler is very low - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

Pros: I bought Toyota Matrix because of its hatchback feature to transport kids back and forth from their college dorm. It is roomy and has lots of space inside. Cons: The spoiler is too low and I always hit and scratch it during parking. Not only that the spoiler is just a clip on and it keeps popping out. I am very disappointed due to that. I was traveling on one of the busiest bridge in New York at night and I felt I drove on something, later when I stopped at a gas station I discovered that the right spoiler was missing and the left spoiler was hanging out. I had to stop at a gas station to tie a string to it.

  • No need to even look at the 09 - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

I have the original 03 XR, loaded, nav, sunroof, 18 inch wheels. Looks great. But the best thing is the mileage. Consistently well over 30 mpg. On a trip to San Diego from Huntington Beach, all freeway, all cruise control, very flat-land trip, right lane, 52 mph, this beauty gave me 41.3 mpg. Not typical, but true. Came w/ factory navigation + 6 CD changer; still cost just over 19K. Great for making service calls and hauling Home Depot stuff. A little weak on HP; Id rather have the MPG anyway. Had to replace a faulty nav, sunroof motor, both under warranty. No reason to even look at the 09s. Only neg is the inst panel: hard to read in bright sunlight; remedy is to replace all gauges.
