Wife and I bought Matrix over Vibe because of styling. MSRP was 19.2K. We paid 17.9K. 17" wheels,6 CD,Winter Pkg, no sunroof. Handles grt w/17s but could not drive in snow--AWFUL..16s w/ M+Ss better value. Wife gets 27-29mpg (280/tank)w/stop&go commuting. Pretty slow car otherwise..VVTi what? If you are conservative, I think a stripped Camry is a better buy. Windshiled easily cracked by pebbles too.(*%#!)

  • Excellent Car - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Ive owned this vehicle for 10 months now with NO problems at all. This has been my experience with Toyota vehicles since 1992. The domestic big 3 lost me as a customer because of quality and reliability problems. The model owned is an XR 4wheel drive. This car didnt let me down even with the blizzard of 03 in the Northeast! Its very easy to enter and exit with the high doors provided. For people with back trouble its a blessing.

Great little car and the dogs love it. Cosmic blue is a fantastic colour. Turns alot of heads. Must have TINTED WINDOWS!

  • Transmission problem - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

My 2003 5-speed only has just over 77,000 miles on it and the bearings in the transmission are going. I bought a Toyota specifically to have a long- lasting, good car. I called Toyota customer service and got the same story about not taking it to a dealership for routine maintenance so they couldnt help me if the car hadnt been properly maintained.

  • Best car I have driven - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

I love this car. My husband and I went out West last year. We drove our Matrix there and back. We drove over 4,000 miles. We got 32 miles to a gallon of gas. It was very comfortable and we enjoyed our trip in this car.

  • Cheap Parts, No Service - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

Ive put over 20K miles on this car, driving it over 100 miles daily. It zips through traffic and handles satisfactory. I am disappointed in Toyota build quality and the service you get from a dealership. CD player went out almost immediately. Brakes wore out (and we dont ride them) too early. The cheap tires are unreal! Impressed with safety tests. Would recommend this car to young set.

  • Good Toyota - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I bought the base model with no frills. I needed a good reliable car that was good on gas and had lots of interior room The Matrix fit the bill.I love the way the seats fold down to make it into a mini station wagon.I feel that for the money you get a good car with lots of good standard features.

  • Great "Vehicle". cant call it a car - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Bought this car for the wife as a "work" car because she liked the looks and it got great gas milage. i drive a police car all day and have an 86 trans am that i enjoy on the weekends. The Matrix XR that we got is just as fun to drive as either one of them. I highly recomend the Matrix.

  • Xr Matrix - 2003 Toyota Matrix

The Toyota Matrix performance wise lacks low end torque and noisy at highway speeds. Trd Super Charger should take care of the torque problem. Toyota has always been known to have high reving engines. Handling is snow/wet conditions is very good just remember u have O/D (OVER DRIVE)......

  • Fun Car - 2003 Toyota Matrix
    By -

With an automatic it is a little underpowered. The fun factor of the car is impressive. I read Edmunds review and I dont think they did this car justice. The handling was very good. It huggs the road like glue. Take off is good for an econemy four cylinder. I think the power of the XR model might be better at low end than the XRS. The exhuast note is very cool. It has a racey sound to it. The value is very good. I looked at a Rav4 but you get more for your money with the Matrix. I think it should be noted that viewing this car online makes it appear to be in-line with a Ford Focus. Not true. Actually this is an SUV/Car.
