  • Great while it lasted, beware of known issue - 2003 Toyota Camry
    By -

I loved this car while it was running. It handled well, it was a smooth and comfortable ride, it was easy to maintain. It was wonderful. *However*, I knew when I bought this car that it had known issues with stripping head bolts. I wish I had walked away. The car lasted 180k miles before the head bolts ended up stripping and the head gasket blew. Now that those issues have been fixed, it has a massive oil leak that hasnt been found yet. Its been a nightmare. I dont know if the stripping is inevitable or not, but Ive heard of enough incidents of this to strongly recommend you look at a 2007 or newer model instead of this one. Buy at your own risk!

  • Its a Lexus Jr.! - 2003 Toyota Camry

It is meant to be a larger family car that is more refined in nature and has a long, long, history of auto reliability. That Camrys nature is reflected in smoothness and comfort. Its a Lexus ES300 Jr! The Camry is a great car for the price. It has a wonderfully quiet cabin (minus the crisp tire/road response) and looks and feels like a much more expensive car. Handling could be improved, as well as the horsepower, but my wife and I are quite pleased with the 2003 Camry.

  • bad a/c - 2003 Toyota Camry

This is my 2nd Camry. I have had major problems with A/C. The compressor, motor, and other components had to be replaced. Getting parts was a real hassle. Also, the intermittent wipers did not work when I bought it. I have had to replace tires at less than 30,000 miles which is rediculous. I dont know if I have a lemon or what.I am aprehensive about the A/C.

Nice, soft riding and soft handling car that is very reliable, very dull. Good space for family; seats are not as comfortable as they should be.

  • 03 V6 XLE great car, but.......... - 2003 Toyota Camry
    By -

I recently purchased a 2003 XLE with the 210 V6 VVTi engine, equipped with the 5 speed transmission. The transmission is becoming a disappointment. I have noticed it has a problem downshifting from 5th into 3rd for passing. The transmission hesitates before a lower gear engages, then shifts into gear with a degree of roughness. There is a concern when immediate response is needed. Many owners of the Lexus ES300 have experienced the same problem, with the 5speed transmission [the Lexus and Camry share much of the same mechanical underpinnings] Lexus is aware of the problem, lets hope Toyota is in the loop and aware of the problem.

  • Great, but flawed. - 2003 Toyota Camry

There is a intermittent noise in the dash. The Car has 20 more horsepower than the Mercury Sable it replaced, however seems to have less performance. Rear vision is poor with the spoiler. Love the spoiler, cant see over it.The brake pedal is mushy, but brakes are good. The exhaust pipe hangs down six to ten inches on every Camry I have seen. Looks very Tacky. I no longer have to look at Camrys and rebadged Camrys (Lexus) to identify them. I just look for the exhaust pipe hanging down under the rear axle.

  • Have had problems - 2003 Toyota Camry

This is my first Toyota - and probably last. For the price premium Ive not received the reliability I looked forward to having. Case in point: At 71,400 miles the a/c quit working, the first ever a/c problem Ive had on any car Ive owned before 100,000 miles! My service tech said I "had to take it to the dealer". (Thanks again, Toyota!) The dealer said the a/c compressor AND clutch needed replacing, for $1300+ for a rebuilt unit no less, not a new part. That, and $35 to lubricate a "squawking" steering column rubber piece. The ride and comfort is great, but Im afraid of too many repairs in the future. I feel so stupid - buy a 100,000 mile warranty like with any other car!

  • Paint Job and Thigh Support / Engine - 2003 Toyota Camry
    By -

I feel that my legs are half way on the seat and the other half on mid air! Im 510 195 lbs. dads 98 Ford Taurus SE is just as fast Im wondering if the 2003 5-speed automatic transmission is quicker than the 4? Bad paint job/or defective. I have toyoguard double clearcoat sealant, and its chipping off from the hood and on smaller areas around the vehicle. What a bummer! DONT BUY BLACK!!!

  • Plain Vanilla - 2003 Toyota Camry

First Toyota I have owned. Nice car, but feels like I have purchased and am driving a toaster. Car is lightweight on the highway and blows around if following a semi trailer. Front seats are not supportive and my legs go to sleep after 30-45 minutes of driving, due to very short seat cushion. Perhaps my 6 foot size is a factor, but I am slim in build also.
