This Year's Model Updates:

One of America's favorite cars is all new this year. Design goals for the 2002 Toyota Camry included larger interior packaging, reduced noise, more advanced safety features, better driving dynamics and, of course, a new standard of value.

Pros:
  • Roomy, powerful engines, plenty of safety and luxury features.
Cons:
  • High prices for XLE, costly premium features.

After three years and 57k miles with this car I will be trading in this Camry for an 05 Grand Prix. Since I travel up to 400 miles in a day, I need a car that fits my 511", 200lb frame. The Camry seats are in a word terrible! Seat cushion is too short and lacks ANY support. Tires WORE OUT at 25k mi, but no loss, as they were poor performers dry or wet. Even with better tires the Camry NEVER FEELS CONNECTED to the road. Too much body roll. The car is BORING to drive. The interior plastic parts BUZZ on a bumpy road. The car is skittish in crosswinds; keep gas full and ballast in trunk. JBL radio mumbles. Steering wheel hums when turned. Rotten-egg exhaust smell.

  • Sorry I Bought a Camry - 2002 Toyota Camry

After doing much research on "the best selling car" I bought the Camry V6 XLE, loaded. Im sorry to say that Ive had nothing but break problems. Im on my 3rd set of rotors Toyota keeps telling me its MY DRIVING and that no one else has these reoccurring problems. But, after reading some of these reviews its obvious Toyota has lots of disappointed customers. They put cheap tires Toyota put on their $30 car. Im ready to trade this car in for the Nissan Altima - the reviews for that car are wonderful. And the Altima has much better styling. If you want a car youll feel safe in (besides all the air bags) I would NOT recommend this car.

  • Beware of 1st year model - 2002 Toyota Camry

I bought my 97 (previous 1st year model) with belief that Toyota would take care of me. Boy was I naive! There were usual bugs: shrieking steering wheel, loose drivers seat, bad strut towers, chattering brakes, multiple dead bulbs, and safety recall. Krauses service manager gave hard time on everything but the recall. Found myself actually forgiving the problems and buying Sienna... until Toyota refused to extend any goodwill on head gasket leak 5 days out of warranty. In a round-about way, Im glad I was too busy last month to finish negotiations on that Sienna. Now I’ve bought an Odyssey. Check out Townhall for how Toyota has treated owners whove developed problems.

  • Problems Galore! - 2002 Toyota Camry

I had this car for less than a month and it has been to the dealership 5 times to fix problems. First one tire had 45 psi pressure then the wheel alignment was off. Tires are noisy. Why cant they check the vehicle before delivery?
