This Year's Model Updates:

One of America's favorite cars is all new this year. Design goals for the 2002 Toyota Camry included larger interior packaging, reduced noise, more advanced safety features, better driving dynamics and, of course, a new standard of value.

Pros:
  • Roomy, powerful engines, plenty of safety and luxury features.
Cons:
  • High prices for XLE, costly premium features.

  • Good midsize with lots of annoyances - 2002 Toyota Camry

Runs good most of the time (hard to start in the winter). Powerful and smooth engine. Gets around 30 mpg. Smooth, quiet ride with roomy and comfortable interior. Now the bad... Interior is very cheap; its just about falling apart. Engine does not want to start in cold weather. Car is too low. It bottoms out on everything! Hard to get parts for. Toyota charges an arm and a leg for the parts they do have. No ABS with brakes that tend to lock up all the time. Transmission likes to downshift when slowing down on a downhill. If it does that in the rain or snow your tires will lose traction! Ive had too many close calls with lost traction in this car.

  • good car but expensive and unattractive - 2002 Toyota Camry

My mother purchased a white 2002 Camry LE V-6, the inside did not look as nice as it did in pictures from magazines and the seats arent very comfortable, but the sound system is very nice. The car was very peppy, smooth and has been very reliable so far (only about 3000 miles on it) I dont really like the front and rear headlights, the front headlights are too sharp and not matched with the dull bodysize and the rear lights are too big and looks as if it is placed too high...We paid more than 25,000 dollars and did not even get a sunroof and power/leather seats...Overall...it is a nice and roomy car but I think there are better alternatives.

  • I must have bought a lemon! - 2002 Toyota Camry

I have had my Camry in the shop 8 times. 5 of those times for the same thing. Finally got Toyota involved and they found the reason the engine light kept coming on was because the 2nd and 3rd cylinder was creating metal shavings. Toyota replaced my engine but since then my CD player has gone out and now it is in the shop again for the engine.

I hate this car, I will never every buy a Camry again, After leaving the dealership, transmission issue, check engine light, brakes, leather seats, my new car was in the shop for the first complete month, and after 7 more times for the same issues. I hate this car, will never ever buy a Toyota again

  • Not that Camry any more - 2002 Toyota Camry

I have a 2002 Camry LE, 4 cyl, bought May 2002. After several months driving, I have to say that this car, although still called the same name, does not deserve the same good words people used to have. The acceloration is always abrupt and make the ride very uncomfortable during stop-and-go driving. The transmission was truely retarded, does not know when to shift and what gear it should select under different road conditions. Also the squeaking sound from the brakes always drove me crazy. My next car is not going to a Camry for sure.

  • Its OK - 2002 Toyota Camry

Ive had the car for 6 months. Ive also experienced sulphur smells from the A/C. The loud scraping noice for the ABS actuator is annoying. The seat length is a little short for me (62"). There is a creaking noise in the front dash and the suspension groans a little. The CD player burnt out and had to be replaced. Those are the bad things. I will give the Camry credit for being a quiet car and it does ride well. The controls are laid out very well (except cruise control).

  • So Unhappy - 2002 Toyota Camry

I have had my new 2002 Camry for less than two years. The right dash has squeaked and creaked since day 1. My air conditioning had to be replaced. My radiator (!!) had to be replaced. My oil pan had to be replaced. My charcoal cannister had to be replaced. I have never - EVER - had such a terrible experience with a car. I just purchased a Subaru Forester, and will stick with Subarus from now on.

Awful dashboard rattles that the dealers have been unable to repair. Everything else is great bu this one issue would keep me from getting another one.
