Toyota has tinkered with the options packages, but otherwise left the Avalon alone. A new luxury package for the XL includes power leather-trimmed seats, 15-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry and a JBL audio system. There's also a Sport Luxury package that adds 16-inch alloy wheels and a rear spoiler in addition to the items in the luxury package.

• Lexus-like quality, smooth V6 engine, huge rear seat.

  stopped by dealership on the way to test drive a mazda. the toyota avalon ride was so superior that we went right back and purchased the 2002 avalon xls. the last new car we bought was in 1989. we keep a car forever. my husband says i still have a silly grin on my face when i drive!!!! i dont care for the lower front. i have to be careful when parking while facing a curb so that i dont hit. it isnt always high enough to clear.

  This car is great! I previously had a Volvo 850 Turbo and traded it in for the Avalon. Ive found the Avalon to be far superior in every aspect except acceleration, but that is only because the Volvo had a turbo engine. The avalon is bigger on the inside and the trunk is also bigger, which I didnt think could be possible. Great car for the money!

  Overall, I am loving this car. The ride is smooth, the car is quiet and the amenities are wonderful. I really like all of the safety features, between the front and side curtain airbags, the vehicle skid control and the assisted braking, I truly feel safe in this car. I also appreciate the reliability of a Toyota product.

  I have purchased a new car every 2-3 years for the last 20 years. I have owned Honda/Accord EX, Nissan Altima GLE, GMC, Ford, Mercury, and Pontiac. The Toyota Avalon has been, by far, the best buy for the buck. The room and comfort alone would make it an outstanding car. The gas mileage, 22 city- 29 highway, is exceptional for a full size car. And the exceptional mileage does not jeopardize power, when needed.
