This Year's Model Updates:

Subaru is building on last year's successful redesign of the Legacy by making a few additional improvements for 2006. For instance, Legacys with normally aspirated engines feature a new variable valve lift system that slightly improves horsepower and torque, while a new DVD-based navigation system has been made available on selected trim levels. The trim levels themselves have also changed slightly. The budget-performance 2.5 GT trim has been discontinued, leaving buyers to ante up for the pricier GT Limited. There's a new Spec B version of the GT Limited sedan with a firmer suspension and 18-inch wheels. Also note that GT wagons are no longer available with a manual gearbox. Base Legacy 2.5i sedans and wagons have bigger wheels, stronger brakes, an air filtration system and an engine immobilizer as standard equipment this year.

  • WOW, who knew. - 2006 Subaru Legacy

I have researched and test driven many cars over the past 6 months -- Honda Accord, Acura TL, VW Passat, Nissan Maxima, Infiniti G35, and a 2007 Toyota Camry -- in search for the car with performance, styling, at the best price. I would put my GT up against any of these other cars. Some had a few more options, but for much more money. I only have 450 miles on this car, and I feel like the kid looking in the candy shop window and someone just gave me a $20. I couldnt be happier. THIS CAR IS FAST. Very stylish. Subaru should be proud.

This is a great car. I got it for my wife for her birthday gift and she loves it. The build quality is great. A very underrated Accord alternative. The AWD was the #1 selling feature for me. So far no problems, well one...I havent been able to drive it because my wife wont let me.

  • SPEC B is the car to buy - 2006 Subaru Legacy

I was comparing the A4 3.1, 330Xi, and the Legacy GT. I came home with the Spec B for $7-8K less money and very similar performance and comfort. Admittedly, the interior and luxury is a bit better in the A4 and Bimmer, but this is a great buy! Test drive the GT and youll see. It is a great drive, fun and responsive.

  • Reliability & a Great Driver Too! - 2006 Subaru Legacy
    By -

Im 44 & a driving enthusiast. Ive owned many brands of cars. This Legacy combines the reliability & quality of a good Japanese brand with the driving feel of a European car. I traded in my VW Jetta and Audi A6 for this car and have never looked back. I was tired of the repair bills and inconvenience of the "down time", but thought I would miss the driving feel of those brands. Not so! The AWD makes the handling of this car very neutral, and the suspension soaks up bumps while remaining responsive. The steering has good feel and its not too over-assisted. The normally aspirated engine revs easily and has plenty of power for daily driving & the 5 speed makes good use of it while adding fun.

  • Just drive one - 2006 Subaru Legacy

I have just spent the last two days driving my wifes new Legacy SE. It is IMHO significantly more refined and just plain fun to drive than either my own 01 Infinity or the new 07 Camry, 06 Accord and 06 Sonata v6 which I have driven on real test drives in various conditions. With the SE auto, on a 600 mile road trip, just notched 29 mpg in mixed driving (80% hwy) and itÂ’s a hoot to drive on back roads. The all wheel drive and excellent balance makes you want to search for reasons to take the roads less traveled, even in the base SE.

  • What I needed turned out to be fun too - 2006 Subaru Legacy

With this cars handling and a stick, 175 horses on the back roads is fun. I needed a safe car for a 40 mile commute in CT. Sometimes to New Haven. Sometimes down the Saw Mill. It handles so well. My fun to drive rating is compared to others in this price range. I know its not a Porsche but seriously this car can hold the road. My reliability rating is a SWAG based on previous Subaru ownership.

  • 2006 Subaru Legacy 2.5i SE - 2006 Subaru Legacy

First, I have to say people just dont get it; otherwise Subaru would be selling more than 300,000 vehicles a year in America. My overall opinion, Ill use one of Valvolines old slogans: people who know buy Subarus! This was my first brand new car purchase. I did painstaking research before purchasing, and I have no regrets! This particular Subaru is the best buy in its class for the money, period. I like the clean, modern exterior styling, the interior is clean, stylish, and comfortable (still with a few annoying quirks that most cars have). The handling is nothing short of impressive. Test driving this car sells it, especially if you test drive it in the rain or snow. Hurry, go now!

  • Excellent Craftsmanship - 2006 Subaru Legacy

I cannot believe that I dont see more of these on the road. This is the first vehicle Ive bought and not had buyers remorse at all. Interior is wonderful: I like it more than my friends Audi A4. 17 inch rims look great, and the ride is quiet, solid, and sure-footed.

  • Excellent Vehicle for the Price - 2006 Subaru Legacy
    By -

All I can say is wow! Though I know know they could beef up the engine as it is nearly identical to the STI engine with that 300 HP. Though the Legacy has plenty of gitty up already I would like to see a little more beef under the hood. I cant say enough -- probably the best quality and the fastest car listed under $30,000.

  • Excellent fun! - 2006 Subaru Legacy
    By -

I simply love everything about the car. Amazingly fun to drive, excellent performance, luxurious, unique, safe, and the envy of so many friends. I have a slight buzz from the sun roof from time to time, and I do wish it would have come in a color worthy of its flashiness...but amazing none-the-less.
