Overview & Reviews
Subaru is building on last year's successful redesign of the Legacy by making a few additional improvements for 2006. For instance, Legacys with normally aspirated engines feature a new variable valve lift system that slightly improves horsepower and torque, while a new DVD-based navigation system has been made available on selected trim levels. The trim levels themselves have also changed slightly. The budget-performance 2.5 GT trim has been discontinued, leaving buyers to ante up for the pricier GT Limited. There's a new Spec B version of the GT Limited sedan with a firmer suspension and 18-inch wheels. Also note that GT wagons are no longer available with a manual gearbox. Base Legacy 2.5i sedans and wagons have bigger wheels, stronger brakes, an air filtration system and an engine immobilizer as standard equipment this year.

Great Find! - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By Daniel - July 10 - 3:36 amThis is my first Subaru and I am very happy with the car. I have had many cars and this one is outstanding. No issues at all in the first 1K miles. I have always had "high-end" cars such as Infinitis, Acuras and Saabs and the dealer experience from these companies gets you spoiled. The "Subaru experience" only reminds me this is not a premium line car "yet" ... feel like I am back at a Honda dealership. Oh well, the car is still stick and a wonderful Japanese sports sedan. I was able to get the GT Limited which keeps one in comfort. Car handles VERY well, turbo is wonderful and allowed me to go from my Saab 9-5 Aero without crying too much; the 250hp AWD was the factor! VERY HAPPY!

Rocket on wheels. - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By dsmcarfan - June 25 - 10:23 amTest drove Acura TL, Infiniti G35x, and the GT. Best feeling of raw power under control in a car. You dont accelerate in the vehicle, you launch from a standstill. I have not seen much in the way of turbo lag as others have reported. The car has plenty of passing power, and is all around a fun piece of machinery. Its not as refined as the TL or G35x, but is a good mix of performance and luxury features for a reasonable price.

Were Very Happy - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By Canuck - May 25 - 6:23 amWe bought a Legacy partly because everyone has an Outback, partly because it cost less than an Outback, and partly because its cleaner looking than an Outback. People say it looks like an Audi. We havent been a bit disappointed. Because it is 2.5" lower than an Outback our Legacy corners great on curvy roads and provides as much as 30 mpg on the highway.

The Dragon Wagon - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By Chad - February 22 - 5:33 amI love this ride! You are pretty much getting a higher end sports car for under $30k. Takes corners very well, even with a case full of stuff on the racks, but still smooth over rougher roads. With the turbo and sport shift you can get around the slow driver on the two lane roads very quickly. Interior is tasteful, nothing gaudy inside. Lower profile and sleeker look than the Outback but still have the AWD. The ability to make some "simple" mods to maximize that boxer engine.

Worth the $$ - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By Great Ride! - September 22 - 10:10 pmThe spec.B is worth every penny over the normal GT. The wheel/Bilstein suspension package works flawlessly and the upgraded interior is loved by all who see it. My wife traded in her 2000 Accord for it, we will never go back to the soulless Honda. The rush of the turbo spooling at 3 thousand makes it a rush to drive. My only worry is the number of speeding tickets the wife is going to pile up.

A "poormans Porsche" 4 wheel wagon? - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By Multisport transport - September 19 - 2:00 am4 years and 75,400 miles and its still a blast to drive. Very reliable except wheel bearing issues on both the front and rear passenger side wheels. Extended warranty actually paid off. (Had a costly transmission fiasco with prior Volvo all wheel Cross Country) Broke even this time. Combines practicality and style, costs less than an Honda Accord, handles better than VW Passat and offers the all wheel drive of an Audi A4 wagon which costs $15,000 more. I bought a Harley Davidson Nightrod with the savings. The long wagon roof line and additional interior space provides versatility for carrying gear for family vacations and outdoor adventures. Decent MPG range of 23 town & 30 on highway.

Instant Love Affair - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By Carl - June 12 - 4:26 amThe moment I saw the car I fell in love with it. Traded in my 2005 Impreza on it. Build quality is great. Subaru thought this one out well in advance -- they didnt leave much to be desired in an exceptionally valued car. Crawl underneath it and youll see how nicely everything is tucked in. Easier than my 2003 Jetta to work on by far. This is the third Subaru I purchased this year, and have been happy with all of them.

Great car!!! - 2006 Subaru Legacy
By Shaun - May 17 - 3:13 amI love this car. I love everything about it. By the look of the back of it, you could easily mistake it for a BMW. It is very fun to drive. It has a ton of speed and takes corners very well. The radio is also very good! It sounds just about as good as a Bose! I would probably say this is the best car you can by for less than $50,000!
