This Year's Model Updates:

The 2006 Scion xB receives a new steering wheel with audio controls, and the Pioneer audio system has a new head unit design and remote mini-jack port for portable music sources. Additionally, the xB wagon offers dedicated Apple iPod connectivity, which delivers iPod display information and allows unit control and recharging through the audio system. In other news, the xB's horsepower rating drops from 108 to 103 due to new SAE testing procedures.

Pros:
  • Massive interior for its size, unusual mini-truck styling, long list of standard equipment, standard stability control, handles well for a budget-priced vehicle.

The Scion xB has so much room in the inside with comfort in mind. In many vehicles in this price range, power windows, power locks, etc. are an option. They are all standard in the xB. Although the engine is only a small 1.5L, it does have the get up and go that I need. It does have a little trouble getting up steep hills but this is only a small thing considering all the things that can be done with this vehicle. The drive feels like you are riding on rails. I get a lot of compliments from people who like this car, but as you will find either you like this car or you dont. Many people criticize it for being too boxy, but for me that is the allure of it.

It can be a fun car and for most people it probably is, but the construction is POOR. If I had to do it over again I wouldnt buy it. If you want a car that is fuel efficient and performs reasonably well on the freeway, this car is it. But it is really noisy. All the doors and dashboard rattle so loudly that you can hear it over the radio, unless you set the volume high all the time. Its been to dealer three times, the first two times they fixed it, now they claim they dont hear any unusual noise. If you dont mind loud rattling noise they buy this piece of junk. Note: the dealers loaners with less than 10,000 miles were extremely bad with rattling noise as well, so this is a pattern is all their cars.

Heres why I purchased the Scion sB: Im 6ft tall and I have plenty of room. The rear seat has plenty of room for the kids. It gets 35mpg and it never breaks. Not ready for a Corolla or a minivan. It has performed beautifully in these areas. One of the main reasons I bought the 2006 was the gas mileage. The 06 has enough power and performs really well at the pump!

My qualifications for picking a new car were simple, low ownership cost and big space. At 63", 300+ pounds, this eliminated a lot of the under 20 grand cars out there. It boiled down to the Chevy HHR, Chevy Aveo, Pontiac Aztec, Mazda3, and the xB. The xB was the last one I test drove and I immediately fell in love with it. There is an insane amount of room (even for me). The price is fantastic, and when you figure in the low insurance costs and great gas mileage, it gets even better. Not to mention I LOVE the no haggling pricing system. I got mine nicely equipped (even got the blue lights....ooh pretty) for around $18,000 out the door. Hands down this is the best car for the money!

I love driving this car. It is so roomy. I am very comfortable driving my xB and I am glad I bought this vehicle. I was skeptical at first but when I test drove it for the first time I was immediately sold. It has a unqiue design which is why I also chose this model. Every time I see another person driving an xB I wave and they wave and smile back. It is fun to drive:)

  • Unique and Eclectic, Great for the City... - 2006 Scion XB

I purchased my xB because I was attracted to its unique shape, efficiency, interior space, and low price. I bought it with the full intention of customizing it a bit to express my personal style. After a year of ownership my xB has served me well without a single hiccup. It delivers excellent gas mileage when its warm-around 32 mpg, however falls to a dismal 25/26 mpg when its cold out. I love the xBs funk factor and unique shape. The kids especially love it; once at a drive-in, a little boy called it a little limo. However, the xB suffers from lackluster materials, and is certainly not meant for highway driving. At high speeds (75+) the xBs engine is overwhelmed @ 3700 RMP and starts to suck gas.

I get 35 mpg in my Scion xB! Thats right. I love it. It is so much fun to drive and I get major looks around town. The kids love it too. The standard features are awsome and the satilite radio is cool. My dealer gave me Sirus free for 9 months and threw in a free cruise control!

I did a lot of research before I bought this car, and I have no regrets! I bought the 5-speed manual. We live in snow country and it handles like a dream with studded tires. There is a ton of room inside. I like the look of the car. I have averaged 32 mpg from the start. The only thing I missed was a center arm rest but hey, with the over all quality and gas mileage thats not a biggie. Yes I know I can buy a center arm rest, but thought it a bit pricey. I had a PT Cruiser for many years, and did not give it a second thought when I drove away in my xB. I dont feel this car lacks power but then, I dont feel the need to drive at 70 mph, 55 mph is just fine.

  • xBs Biggest Problem - 2006 Scion XB
    By -

I absolutely love my Scion xB. The only problem I have had with it is the windshield keeps cracking. I took it to the dealer before he even looked at it he automatically said the "stone chip" which I really didnt think twice about until I searched the internet. It seems a lot of people have this same exact problem their windshield. It cracks for no apparent reason, starting at above the rear view mirror. I went back to the dealer to complain about it. All he said was, "well what do you expect the windshield is straight up and down." If they pitch you that line, dont buy into it. I had a Jeep Wrangler for 10 years with 200,000 miles on it. The windshield is almost vertical and it never cracked.
