This Year's Model Updates:

The 2003 9-3 is an all-new design from top to bottom. It rides on a new platform, has new engines and an interior that's considerably more modern than the previous version.

Pros:
  • Sharp handling, frugal yet powerful engines, generous passenger room, class-leading trunk space, excellent audio systems.
Cons:
  • Some turbo lag at lower speeds, not as vaultlike as some of its European competitors, front-wheel drive also a slight disadvantage.

  • One year mark - 2003 Saab 9-3

Outstanding 1st year. Have owned Audi Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, Volvo, Acura in the past. Saab 9-3 represented the best value when we went for a new car in August 03. Car has lived up to expectations. The car has the right amount of torque for daily driving. It is pleasant and smooth with adequate power when pressed. The Linear is a nice balance of riding comfort and handling agility (only my Porsche handled better). The car is one of the safest ever built (refer to crashtest.com for testing done worldwide).

Electronics are not well integrated. Cannot open truck without using remote or by opening car from inside trunk release. Many rattles and other minor issues still exist after more then two years trying to find/fix them. Engine burns oil, Saab unwilling to fix problem. Two oil consumption tests indicated car burned 2 qts in 4000 miles, and 3/4 of a qt in first 1250 miles of next test and then additional 1/8 qt in next 1900 miles). Saab says it is normal to burn 1 qt per 2000 miles, this is outrageous. This is a GM company wide statement to boot. There are better cars for the same money. This is how GM proves why they are going out of business.

  • Awesome...my second Convertible Saab - 2003 Saab 9-3

This is my second SAAB. My first Saab 900 SE Turbo was a 1997 and I drove it for three years . In Winter, I drove right by BMWs during our major blizzards and watched them spin their wheels . The seats that first drew me to the car. They are so comfortable.. I am also 63" and fit nicely into the SAAB with leg room to spare. Performance-wise the new 2003 is a better handling car. The cat back sport exhaust growls and shell stay with or pass most cars. They build this particular car on the same assembly line as the Porsche Boxster...a little known Fact.

  • Best car for the Money, If you can fix it yourself - 2003 Saab 9-3

If youre not a mechanic you bought the wrong car. If, like myself, you enjoy working on your car and dont mind changing ignition coils on the side of the highway in a hail storm you can get a great value on this car. I bought this car after the previous owner failed to diagnose the blown ignition cassette. After ~$150 bucks I got a great deal on it. The CEL lights most people are reporting are as a result of non-OE specific spark plugs. Most people spend too much money at the shop and not enough time learning about proper maintenance and service. This car has never been in the shop since Ive owned it and for the next 50k miles I expect it to be somwhere between my garage and the highway

  • Great Value! - 2003 Saab 9-3

I drove the BMW 325, MB C230 Sedan, Acura TSX and Audi A4 before deciding on the 9-3 Linear. I drove the Arc with a sport suspension as well but teh car did not seem as integrated as the Linear. Got the touring and drivers packages for a great price when GM was doing cash rebates in August. I really wanted a European car so the TSX was out and the rest just cost too much equipped as well as the Saab. Car drives great. Plenty of power for the freeway merges and gets great gas mileage.

This car is really fun to drive, very unique, and styled awesome. I love the car, but it is very unreliable. It has been in to service 8 times in the 8 months that i have owned the car. It has left me stranded multiple times and I do not trust its reliability. The interior has aged far too quickly in the short time that I have owned it. I regret the purchase of the Saab and I wish that I could get rid of it. Other that those things, the car is great.

  • Disappointed First Time Saab Owner - 2003 Saab 9-3

Fun to drive and looks good. Poor product quality. Turbo had to be replaced and the car repainted due to peeling paint. Car had less than 1500 miles on it when both occured. Customer Service Center very poor. Poor radio sound and cup holders have a tendency to spill cups. Service at the Dealership great. This car has not represented the quality that Saab markets itself as having. Great Dealership, poor product quality and poor customer service. Not worth the money. Buy a BMW!

  • sad but true - 2003 Saab 9-3

I am so unbelievably disappointed in my new 93. I have always loved the look of Saabs and knew I would own one one day. To my surprise, I have had nothing but headaches from this car. I have had it in service approx 6 times now for various problems & its still not resolved. Never again.

  • The last time Ill ever buy a Saab - 2003 Saab 9-3
    By -

The car spends more time in the dealership than in the driveway. Had the CD changer replaced 3 or 4 times (I actually lost count), "Infotainment" center works only half the time, multiple sensors replaced on car, major stereo and electronic issues (too much to go into here), and other problems that are escaping me at this time. The car squeaks and rattles like a 10 year old economy car. You would think for $30k it would have been built better. Good MPG? I wish I knew the secret of these other people, I am averaging 21-24 mpg with my daily commute and having to put premium gas in, thats not good. My biggest regret is that I purchased this car. Very big MISTAKE!

  • Its truly great! - 2003 Saab 9-3

Its been a year Ive had the car and I love it now as much as day 1-- very fun to drive! Im 64", 240 pounds and have chronic low and mid-back pain and one of the few seats in the world that gives me great relief is this Saabs driver seat-- it is incredibly comfortable. the room inside is great including trunk, but it is still very easy to park in the city. I love the ergonomics, love the steering wheel controls, I believe handles BETTER than 3 series Beamer and sports Lexus (it is very nimble/responsive), great breaking, love the chilled front passenger storage, and very solid acceleration.
