This Year's Model Updates:

SE models now include a manual-shift mode for the CVT, and satellite radio pre-wiring is standard on all models. The standard driver seat now features 10-way power adjustment.

Pros:
  • Excellent handling, comfortable and practical interior, unique styling inside and out, smooth and powerful engine.
Cons:
  • Continuously variable transmission detracts from performance, SE model rides harshly, no third-row seat, gets pricey with options.

  • ANOTHER new tranny needed - 2004 Nissan Murano
    By -

Bought the Nissan used, only 2 years old and 32,000 miles on it, transmission went out 2 days later. Now just over 2 years on that tranny and its out. Nissan wants $5500 for a rebuilt transmission. The other 40+ cars in my close family are all American, so they are having fun with the "I told you sos". After a year of chemo and radiation its the last thing I needed, cant afford to fix it so it sits on a trailer while I continue to get rides to work and make a payment on it.

  • Beautiful car ---key problems - 2004 Nissan Murano

Im thrilled with my murano. Ride is smooth and it is easy to manuver. I get lots of compliments. Bought the car used and got a good deal. Back seat ride is bumpy. Only problem is the key. I have had to take it to the dealer 4 times to get the key reprogrammed. The car at times does not start, it will turn over and eventually start. Dealer states key is sensitive and should not be kept next to magnetic items (i.e. credit cards, etc).

  • Not bad for the first model year! - 2004 Nissan Murano

I am 64, 225 lbs. I find the Murano to be very forgiving for a person my size. Not only the legs, but the head room, even with the sunroof! There, you loose two inch of head room. Now I do not have to slide down in my seat in order to keep my head off the roof. I have had people come up to me and want to know what kind of vehicle that was, and there like....Oh, that is what the Murano looks like. They are impressed with the looks. Not too big and not too small, it has that look, like it means business.

  • Dont Judge a Book by its Cover - 2004 Nissan Murano

Love to drive this SUV. Responsive and good looking however it has become the most unreliable vehicle that I have ever owned. Bearing froze on idler pully causing it to fail, fly apart and damange engine components. Then transfer case for 4WD failed. Two tows in two consecutive months all with 22,000 miles. Add to this the air duct design flaw of being too close to the engine therefore always blowing warm air through the vehicle even when outside temperatures are 70 degrees. Also, when car has more than two people in it the ride feels as if there are no shock absorbors. Even with these deficiencies, I have recommended the car to others.

  • Stange problem.. - 2004 Nissan Murano

Since Im driving the Muran, I feel it similar to my 3 series BMW, millage is poor about 16mpg. A few days ago the top of the rear door got lose, and none at the dealer has an answer why, they took pictures and sent them to the HQ, to see if it is covered by warranty. In this short period lots of noise is going on inside, which I never expected for such a nice design.

  • 221,000 miles 2004 Nissan Murano - 2004 Nissan Murano

I purchased my car in 2006 from dealer? Great car at first until 100k miles Oil pan leak Replaced o-ring and seal twice Plastic tabs kept coming out from underneath car Tires didnt last long After 150k CV joint and axle rods replaced Back right window sticks intermittently ABS light stays on After 200k miles, everything was going Front drivers seat bracket broke, causing seat to slant. Had it welded and seat put back, power seat mechanism slips slightly Replaced radiator Replaced power steering parts Now, the car is hard pressed to go over 40mph uphill. When going over 50, drives smoothly, but unsure what the cause is...catalytic converter, fuel pump, fuel injectors, or spark plugs. All of which is costly because of the placement of parts under the engine. It has been a great car but would recommend selling around 100k miles Parts are expensive!

  • Lacking Reliability-Quality? - 2004 Nissan Murano
    By -

The 2004 Maurano in my opinion is one of the best looking vehicles on the road today. Its a real kick to drive because of its responsiveness. The issues that I have with this vehicle are from an overall engineering standpoint. They are... 1.Outside vented air is heated to 80 degrees because duct work was positioned too close to the engine. 2. When more than two adults are in the car, the suspension reacts as if there are no shock absorbers. With 24,000 mi., the idler pully shattered piercing the lower radiator hose. Next, the AWD transfer mechanisim failed breaking the housing and dumping all of its oil. The positive thing about the above two items is they were covered under warranty

  • Not a soccer team hauler - 2004 Nissan Murano
    By -

Wow, is this an SUV? 2 weeks in and I am incredibly impressed. Handles like a sport sedan, accellerates like a premium sports sedan and stops like a sports car. I cant wait unitl the snow and ice hit. All around sophisticated high end high style performer that is not a suburban soccer team hauler, unless your late for the game.

  • Extremely happy - 2004 Nissan Murano

The first 18,000 miles have been totally trouble-free. No glitches or repairs at all. Quiet, comfortable, smooth and powerful and with all the bells an whistles (except for satellite radio and GPS).
