This Year's Model Updates:

Improved manual transmission shift feel (thanks to a shorter shift stroke), black-tone brake calipers, additional chrome accents inside and new softer leather upholstery. Auto-dimming outside mirrors are now available, and a new 12-volt power point resides at the base of the center stack.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • So-so center stack ergonomics, premium price without the premium nameplate.

  • Not so happy - 2005 Nissan Maxima

Bought it new and love the power. Sometimes its fun to drive--too bad its not on the road enough to have tons of fun driving it. Have had issues with the rotors/shaking in the back end, and issues with a creaking sound which has yet to be repaired after the 3rd attempt. Not to mention the two recalls......just hard to have fun owning a car with so many issues. Im disappointed to say the least with Nissans performance on this one!

Very sporty looking car. Get a lot of looks. Lots of interior room. Easy to get baby into car seat in rear. Like the security of side curtain air bags. Fun to drive. Need to have lighted controls on wheel. Need to get a better tire on the car. Goodyear SRAs are terrible for reliability and wear. 18" design means costly replacement. Easy to pass with all the power. Wish the car would ride softer in bumpy roads.

I purchased my 2005 Nissan Maxima with 13 miles on it. It has a very sporty look to it however, I dont like the fact that when you get into it you have to be very careful not to bump your head as you enter the car because it sits low. When you pay good money for a car the chrome should not tarnish from washing the car. I experience a groan and/or moan sound when I make a left turn with the steering wheel and have no idea what that is. Of course everytime I take it in they say they do not hear it. I would not recommend a Nissan to anybody and I will never purchase a Nissan again. The sad part is that I owned an Nissan Exteria and it made the same groan noise when turning.

  • I love this car!! - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I have had my 2005 Maxima for 3 1/2 months and still get a thrill when getting in it! I look for excuses to take it out! I researched the Acura TL and the Camry along with this one, and the Maxima came out way ahead. My husband (who is not a car fanatic) even loves getting in it. The space inside is just perfect for our family of 4. I get a kick out of the looks and comments I get when out driving . You cannot go wrong with the Maxima.

  • Truly Dissappointed - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I bought an 05 SE in Jan and now 8 mon. later Im looking to get rid of it. The build quality of this car is horrible. Im getting a clucking noise in the front everytime I take off, stop or turn. Dealer says they cant duplicate it but I hear it all the time. Entire dash squeaks, rattles, & cracks everytime the weight of the car shifts. Dealer wants to charge me to fix this as "adjustments" arent covered under warranty after 12,000 mi. Theres a vibration in the tranny when I shift from reverse to drive that the dealer says is normal (yeah right). Rotors have warped 3 times within 16,000 mi. wheel shimmies at 60 mph. Im in the process now of trading it in on an 07 Camry.

  • pretty good, could be better - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I have had this for for 2 years now and still look forward to driving it. Acceleration: Off the line is decent but there is lots of torque steer to get used to. Highway acceleration is pure bliss. I mean wow. Its a great looking car as well. The interior is kind of cheap and the climate control isnt very good. It gets good highway mpg (30ish) but if you floor it around town, you will get about 220 miles to a 22 gal tank. The turning radius is horrendous and the headlights are not very good and I can barely tell the difference when I turn the brights on. I have a shimmy in the brakes when I am braking downhill that no mechanic seems to be able to reproduce. Would seriously consider rebuying.

Hot car, has pizzazz and great options. 350Z from the drivers seat forward, with rear seat and trunk to boot. Considered an Avalon, but it was just a car. This is the most exciting new car I have ever experienced.

  • midlife crisis prayer answered - 2005 Nissan Maxima

as a single father with a child i was looking for a car that would perform enough to satisfy me, yet still have room for a 5 year old and big dog! The 05 maxima answered my prayer. I opted for the SL rather than an SE based onm the simple fact i fell in love with the red color of the one on the lot. It drives as well as my 7 year old supra,is surprising fast when pushed. and still manages to bring a smile to my face when showing it off or pullin gup to a gas pump. the car corners rather well for a large front wheel drive. and has a silky smooth highway ride. only thing, I wish niossan would have put better tires on it.

  • 05 Maxima SE - 2005 Nissan Maxima

This has been a great car, its the third Maxima weve owned. Wish it had Nav. It hasnt been back to dealer for anything but scheduled service. The tires on the SE are not great in snow even with traction control. Took it to Mo., and it got 31.7 mpg on premium. Do not appreciate the torque steer or the soft paint, otherwise love the vehicle.

  • Dont like imports - 2005 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I purchased my wifes 2005 Maxima in march 2006 from Enterprise Car Sales and I must say that it took a lot of out of me to buy. Because I dont like imports! But let me tell you something, this luxury/muscle car is worth it. Its and head turner, My wife just get compliments everywhere she goes. Great acceleration, and handling. Great interior room (buying point) and comfort. If theres anyone who doesnt like this car, they must be on drugs. I hate imports, but I like this car. Some small improvements needed. Is this car perfect No. But it comes very close. I hate to say it, Go Nissan
