This Year's Model Updates:

Improved manual transmission shift feel (thanks to a shorter shift stroke), black-tone brake calipers, additional chrome accents inside and new softer leather upholstery. Auto-dimming outside mirrors are now available, and a new 12-volt power point resides at the base of the center stack.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • So-so center stack ergonomics, premium price without the premium nameplate.

This is a great car to drive. It handles confidently, and a pleasure to drive on winding highways. Power is very adequate, acceleration teriffic. Torque steer hasnt been a problem.

Folks, this by far is one of the best cars I have had the pleasure to own. What a dream in performance and the power under the hood makes it a fun car to drive. I love the interior space, I am 6" tall and can move the seat all the way back and another 6" person can be directly behind me with plenty of room; You do not give up trunk space for this either.

  • Comparable to my BMW - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I have owned 2 BMWs and one Lexus. I truly believe I am sold on the Maxima. It handles well and is definitely fun to drive, especially long distance. It hugs the road and I feel very safe and comfortable in it. It has excellent gas mileage on the freeway, I cant judge it in town yet. Most definitely comparable to the BMW. Lithia provided excellent staff and service.

I have most other imports and find the maxima se, as good for less $$$$$$$$$$$$$. I should have followed my fathers lead to Maximas years ago. Bravo to Nissan on the 05 Maxima.

  • Junk Car, Stay Away from Nissan. - 2005 Nissan Maxima

Bought Brand new from dealership. Like interior and exterior but quality is bad. Coolant leaks cost $400 and Timing Chain also went bad $1500. A coworker had Frontier pick up also had the same problem. Google on Nissan cars and trucks with V6, it seems like common problem. Never heard timing chain replace before. Had 2004 Corolla with 162,000 miles and still running like brand new. Go with Toyota or Honda and forget nissan.

  • Awesome performance - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I was amazed of the performance and pleasantly surprised with the fuel economy. The ride is a little harsh on the rough wintery roads of New England but I am happy to sacrafice the ride for the handling. So far I love it.

  • Awesome - 2005 Nissan Maxima

This is a really fun car to drive. The power that is available when wanted/needed is exhilarating; the responsiveness is incredible. The exterior has a speedy "swept back" look; the cockpit is futuristic and the interior is very roomy. Nice touches like heated seats and steering wheel, auto dimming mirrors inside and out, accessible 12v outlets, etc, add to the enjoyment. The only drawback with the car is that it is front wheel drive. With the HP available, when one really steps on the gas there is a noticable "torque steer" that is very disconcerting at times. Some may not like the audio and HVAC controls in the center stack as the buttons are numerous and small but theyll grow on you.

Got it brand new in 05, it runs great extremely quick and very fast and the handling is awesome. Had to replace the struts once but was under warranty so there was no problem there. there is a lot of room in the back and front seats so you can fit 5 people easily even with the front seats all the way back. i would recommend the NISMo air intake adds about 15HP and you can really feel the difference. AWESOME car!

  • Only buy if its a steal!!! - 2005 Nissan Maxima

The car itself has been good to me for the three years Ive owned it until recently. The transmission is garbage. Just like everyone else my Maxima bumps, randomly shifts, accelerates, and downshifts hard when stopping. Sometimes it wont even downshift when I stop it will stay in 3rd gear. Only 70k on the car. This car has been serviced on time by Nissan the entire three years Ive owned it so it has been taken care of. Its just a known defect with these cars. I thought I bought a Nissan not a Dodge! $4500 to repair the transmission. Whos going to pay that much for a car that is 6 years old? Im looking to trade it in and leave Nissan alone because they wont stand by their products!

I am satisfied with performance and styling of my 2005 Nissan Maxima. I would like to have running lights, self-locking doors, and leather on the door panels as standard equipment though.
