This Year's Model Updates:

Improved manual transmission shift feel (thanks to a shorter shift stroke), black-tone brake calipers, additional chrome accents inside and new softer leather upholstery. Auto-dimming outside mirrors are now available, and a new 12-volt power point resides at the base of the center stack.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • So-so center stack ergonomics, premium price without the premium nameplate.

  • Can you be in love with your car? YES! - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I purchased in 02 a 4cyl. Altima - I moved out of my poor Accord sporting 250k miles I kept waiting on Honda to change the Accord but noooo they had to wait one more year. Lucky me! My husband is a Honda Mechanic - he has been for 17 years. We both own Nissans. Go figure. Honda makes great cars but they didnt make what we required at the time we required it. I had several warranty issues with the Altima and 300 mile beyond my warranty I got nervous so I moved into the 05 Maxima Black w/the Elite package fully loaded I LOVE IT.. it will fly! I have the 4 seater with the tangerine color leather. I get more looks with that color scheme! Great for the money and the performance..Im sold!!

Had this car for 2 years. I have 120k miles on it. Asside from regular maintenance, I have had no problems. It drives very nicely in all conditions. Awesome for long hauls on the highway. Plenty of power when you need it. This car is the best one I have ever owned, and I plan to drive it until the wheels fall off.

  • Very Good Value - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I purchased my vehicle in May 2005. Negotiated hard and got it off the lot at dealer invoice plus an aggressive trade-in value. I love the car. It has performance, comfort and good looks all at a price signficantly lower than cars with a higher brand name. My only complaint is that the door handles are hollow and feel cheap and the gas milage is a little less than advertised. But if you are looking for a comfortable car with most options standard and good performance and not worried about the brand name, the Nissan Maxima is for you.

This is a very fun and practical car. It turns a lot of heads with its looks and drives really nice. I installed a K&N air filter and get about 29 MPG on the highway and about 21 MPG in town. Really enjoy. Test drove a Camry before this Maxima and it made my choice really easy.

  • Love it, BUT....... - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I bought my 2005 Nissan Maxima SL with about 71000 miles on it, i now have 123000 on it. I LOVE the car and how it drives and looks. It has plenty of power. But, my transmission is slowly dieing on me. This is a common problem with these cars. I read the other day that, with these cars you have to change the transmission oil every 30,000 miles for it to last. I havent decieded if i am going to get ride of it yet, or just replace the transmission. If i decide just to replace the transmission, i will make sure to change the transmission oil every 30,000 miles, if not earlier. I truely love everthing about this car.

  • Love at first site.... - 2005 Nissan Maxima

My wife had asked me to go test drive a new 05 Altima for her that she was going to buy. When I was at the dealership I walked past the show room and for the first time I saw a 05 Maxima. I could not keep my eyes off her. After I test drove the Altima, I asked the salesperson if I could test drive the Max. As soon as I put the car into gear I was sold. I could not believe that the way it drove out performed its looks. The car is just AWESOME. It is so fun to drive. It is extremely quite and when needed it "Gets up and goes" better then most vehicles. My buddy discribes it the best, "Its like riding on Ice".... smooth.

  • Nissan needs to be shut down - 2005 Nissan Maxima

First please sign my petition we can complain all day online on blogs but unless something is done or someone dies nothing will be done. The car exterior design is great and fuel economy is great the rest of the car. Disappointing. I have everything from transmission engine and electrical issues. I have less than 60,000+ on it and started having issues after 30,000. I have taken the car to the dealer nothing was done contacted Nissan nothing was done. Nissan needs to pay for what their customers are going through. I recently had an accident do to the transmission jerking basically out of gear and I ran up on a curb that cost me $2000 in damages.

  • Love My Maxima - 2005 Nissan Maxima

This is my fourth Maxima. I love this car. It drives wonderfully. At first I didnt know whether or not I would like it as much as I liked my 2000, but it has proved to be an outstanding car. The ride is so smooth. I love the interior. It feels like you are in the cockpit of a plane. I would recommend this car to everyone!

  • Dont buy a Maxima! - 2005 Nissan Maxima

Like many others, my 2005 Nissan Maxima jerks when I put it into drive or reverse! There is a 3 second delay then it jerks. It happens when I am sitting at a light or have my car running then I put the car in drive from 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. When I am driving its so bad I cannot sip my coffee. Feels as though the engine is going to fall out! Nissan refuses to recall this issue and fix the problem. After reading many complaints, I guess I should feel a little fortunate that this has happened to me at 120,000 miles instead of the average 80,000. I would not recommend this car at all to anyone!!!
