Overview & Reviews
The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.
- Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
- Some small, oddly arranged controls.

Lots of power, no good on gas - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By dwillington - March 17 - 9:43 pmWhat I like most about this car is its power and performance. 260 hp, this thing flies. It has performance tires for a reason. Do not like the interior, it looks cheapish Japanese style, like a cheap electronic calculator. The leather is nice, most of the trim great, but the gauges could seriously have benefited from a different designer. Gas consumption is NOT good, youll notice pretty fast youre paying at the pump a lot. But overall, its a nice sporty sedan.

Maxima.....Loaded Altima? - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Foo - January 18 - 10:00 amI love the new Maxima. Looks great, superb engine, top notch interior (unlike the plastic woes of the Altima) and roomy. But I am doubting the strategy put out by Nissan. The Maxima is identical to the Altima mechanically and suspension and chassis wise, other than 20 more horsepower. For a car that cost so much more, I believe that Nissan should have forked out more development money to maximize the cars potential, especially chassis and suspension wise, instead of routing the cheap way, and building a car that looks great, but is just an Alitma. The car still handles well, but for the price, it could be much better.

Not for introverts... - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Aldee - December 1 - 10:00 amTraded in 02 Altima which was great car. Fell in love with the rear end design and 265 HP. Feels like 295. This from a Buick Grand National owner.

You Decide - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By LewBank - November 3 - 8:53 amI actually like driving this car and its style. However, I feel that purchasing this vehicle was a mistake. I bought this car because I wanted a sporty dependable car to drive around town and on the road. I would call this vehicle anything but dependable. My steering has had a problem for 3 months and my dealer and Nissan is doing little to repair it--I am considering legal action. This is my second Maxima. I owned an American vehicle in between the two maximas. I liked all three cars, but GM gave me much better customer service and service to my vehicle. I wished that I had bought the small caddy instead of the Maxima. Think twice before buying a new Maxima.

My MAXIMA - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Bob L. - October 13 - 10:00 amSolid built car. Love the glass roof. Performance is there when needed. Wish it had a longer factory warranty plan- more that 3 years 36,000 miles.

Beats BMW & JAG - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By TimothyPT - October 13 - 10:00 amI wanted a BMW or Jag. But when I ghave them the list of features the Maxima was offering me the price tag went up to $60,000. The Maxima gave me everything I wanted and more.

I like it but... - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By DavidS - October 13 - 10:00 amOverall a good vehicle. The "skyview" roof is silly and there was no option to not have it unless you want to pay $900 extra for a regular sunroof. Very roomy inside and in the trunk. I get lots of dreamy stares.

Fun to Drive - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Tbone 97 - August 19 - 2:00 amI own the 04 SE w/ the Elite Package. The car handles well, but the front tires break loose fairly easy. The car shifts hard from first thru second. Overall I am impressed. ,

Mixed Max - 2004 Nissan Maxima
By Jon - August 15 - 3:53 pmI always liked the Maxima and when the new design came out in 2004 - I had to have it. This was my first "brand new car". I enjoyed it for a while but problems developed early on. I had both front struts replaced at 10K miles. Two headlights (requires removing the front fender). Front brakes at 22k miles - I had to pay but I feel that should have been covered by the dealer. The glass roof has been replaced three times, a brake sensor was replaced, two tires and one rim (pot hole). I feel I have gotten to know the service department much more than I would ever want to.
