This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Some small, oddly arranged controls.

  • Love My Car! - 2004 Nissan Maxima

Driving my new Maxima SL is a joy! I love the smooth feel of the car. It handles like a MUCH more expensive car. Everywhere I go people stop and comment about how beautiful it is. Also, I cant believe the gas mileage I am getting! I have been waiting to buy a new car that I loved to look at and loved to drive. I have finally found it!

  • Runs like new @ 75K - 2004 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I bought the car brand new in 2004. Now have 75K miles. Still drives like new and still having fun driving it. Great Bose sound system (not sure why it has a tape player, never used it). Does not drive well in Wisconsin weather. Low pro tire needs replacement every 40K and pricey. Replaced by front grill b/c of peeling (common issue). Nissan great about fixing recalls. Overall pretty satisfied.

  • First & Last - 2004 Nissan Maxima

This is my first Nissan and probably the last. I have had many nuisance problems, like oil drips after each oil change. Latest shock is A/C Evaporator leaking and needs to be replaced ($1,500). At 41K miles this is unbelievable! The only sympathy from dealer is s---happens! Good bye Nissan J.S.

  • Its all about the VQ - 2004 Nissan Maxima
    By -

This is a sexy car, with an awesome rear end, but only mediocre from the front. The engine is the velvety smooth 3.5 VQ V-6. It has hustle to spare, and will out perform similiar vehicles in its category. The ride on the SE is very firm, and most road imperfections are felt. It handles very nice, and is comodeous inside. The skyview is cool, but no moonroof.

  • Awesome Vehicle / Bad Transmission - 2004 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I purchased this car in October 2008, with 62,000. The car is very roomy, sleek, and sexy. By the way it is very fast for a V6 sedan. Everything was fine until about 85,000, and I noticed a jerking when driving after awhile. I took it into the dealer, and they said that they feel the jerking, but the warranty that I purchased didnt want to fix it right away, they recommended that I do a transmission flush, which I did. As soon as I left the lot, the jerking reoccurred, I drove it till the transmission got worst, took it back and the warranty will NOW replace the transmission. Also the air conditioner went out, motor mounts were shot also. All this under 100,000, thank goodness.

  • A GREAT Sports Sedan - 2004 Nissan Maxima
    By -

This is my 1st time buying a car and I am VERY impressed with the Maxima. I compared this car to the Acura TL, G35, IS 300, Saab 9-3 Aero, and the Maxima won! This car has every option to keep you comfortable while driving, and performace/handling to make anyone looking at sports sedans very satisified. I chose the Maxima b/c it has the performance of the BMW, the reliablilty of the Acura, the uniqueness of the Saab, and the luxury of a Lexus. This car is just as good any other entry level sports sedan but cost less then $30k.

  • Beware of problems - 2004 Nissan Maxima

Picked this car up as a dealer locate, the selling dealer would not order me one. Unfortunately sometime before me it sustained damage to the right front axle boot which ruined the axle. 30 days and still wating for parts, Nissan says I will just have to wait, they dont even call me. Also some vibration in shifter in 1st, they say its normal. My 00 was a great car, so far this one falls far short. Cant bekieve how poor customer service is, maybe its the French connection.

  • Beware - 2004 Nissan Maxima

I purchased the vehicle after driving the SL. The handling is totally different on the SE. Its been in the shop 3 times as you brakes pull to the left. It had the basic radio which has a real tinney sound to it. I think thetires ( goodyears) were not designed for the car.having an Ols Intriguefor 5 years with the same tires the Olds handled much better. In a corner it the front ends leans into it making the car handle very funny.

  • Awesome!!! - 2004 Nissan Maxima
    By -

Exellent car to drive: fast, smooth, quick off the line. The ride is luxurious and tight at the same time. Visibility is something to get used to, as well as some of the design features (grille, dash/instrument pannel - edges get cut off by the steering wheel)... but looks great from the side and the rear! Huge on the inside and the outside. Plenty of room for the rear passengers, and a nice spacious trunk. Overall - a very nice car, although, somewhat overpriced... there come the rebates.

  • Simply flimsy (looks can be deceiving - 2004 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I just purchased a 2004 Nissan Maxima. I am pretty upset because of the poor flimsy body. The car is not solid, and the quality of material is so cheap. The car thus is reliable but lacks the German craftsmanship in every aspect; especially in the suspension, interior quality, and the solidness. It seems that Nissan attempted to make this car out of aluminum like metal all the way around.
