  • Luxury on the road - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

We purchased a lease return vehicle, replacing a Volvo XC90. The MB is pure luxury in nature. Although the controls are more complicated, the features are second to none. Everyone remarks about the car when were out and about. At first I thought it was overpriced, but the feel while in the car shows that it is indeed well designed and confortable. We have two 15 year old boys that are 6 feet tall, and the room in the 2nd row sold us on the vehicle. They have lots of room and dont realize they are in a car, even on long trips. Heated 2nd row seats were also a selling point as we live in a cold climate, but have only had front heated seats available before. We are very happy with it.

The R-Class is the perfect family vehicle! Great highway car, great features, great ride, great size, great for hauling to our lake house, great for going out with friends, six adults will fit in the car in formal attire! Enjoy the ride!!

  • Very good family vehicle but... - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

The R500 is a very good family vehicle. It does seat 6 normal sized adults comfortably. The ride is smooth and quiet similar to Lexus (of which Ive owned two). For the size of the car, it handles very well and has plenty of pep with the 5L engine. On the other hand, the build quality is suspect. In the first week we had it, we had to replace an O-ring. Now, were having problems with the automatic lift gate - sometimes it closes completely, sometimes it doesnt. Weve sometimes had to close it 5 or 6 times before it will shut all the way. Now the car is starting to pull to the right - prob. an alignment problem. Also, one of the bulbs on the tailgate light has burned out.

  • Luxury Car for Big Families - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

We have 4 kids of all ages and sizes. We found the R class to be the only luxury car to fit us all comfortably, especially the 3rd row. Very safe, fairly fuel efficient, and has a great ride!

  • The Early Review - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

I have watched MB develop the R from the GST concept several years ago and owning one has been rewarding. Solid drive, comfortable but sport feel, large interior room but nimble. The 268 HP and associated torque are fine, making the R500 extra 30+ HP and additonal torque unnecessary - in my mind. The dash "menu" displays are very weak and must be improved. They work but are weak. The Nav system is dated both in use and POIs; The MB Tex in rows 2 & 3 isnt close to best in class. The American market will take a few years to adopt the R - or not. I like wagons so this is great but not everyone will endear themselves to the R. MB will figure out the content vs price in MY 06/07.

  • Best car I ever had - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

I have had the BMW X5, and 325Ci and the Porsche Cayenne, and this is the best car I have had by far. It is practical, comfortable, and well appointed. My husband has the Mercedes S class and is happy to get in and drive it with our two kids in the back and nanny or other passenger in the third row. Everyone is happy and comfy. I strongly recommend this car if you need seating for more than 4. Fast too. Caveat: Parktronic is a must!

  • Fabulous vehicle - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

This car is a terrific alternative to the E class wagon I had previously. The interior space could not be better designed or equipped. The ride is similiar to the S class, but the vehicle design is much better for families. My only suggested improvement is the mileage needs to be improved, but otherwise, absolutely no complaints. I have gotten numerous compliments on the exterior design in the few weeks I have had it. Kids are loving the dual screen DVD players, no arguing who gets to pick the movie! The sun roof just goes on and on-very nice!

  • RClass gets the nod from this bimmerfile - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

My wife and I love our X5 but with two kids (3 and 4)we were busting at the seams. We drove a Honda minivan first and then the R350 on a whim -- in our view, the R offers 85% of minivan functionality but feels 250% more refined. So, we snaped one up on an manufacturer subsidized lease, (monthly pmts less than a Honda!) and immediately packed up the family for a trip to the NC mountains where we drove 40 miles up and down hills with switchbacks that would have made me sweat even in my BMW 330i. The R inspired confidence and never lost composure even when late braking on decreasing radius turns going down a steep grade! To me, this represents a level of active safety that few can match.

  • 2006 R500, Unfortunate Disaster, 74K miles - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

I bought this car certified and have had problem after problem beginning with a water issue that caused electrical problems. Which, despite the knowledge of this problem Mercedes didnt want to admit it existed. They never fully addressed the problem until my warranty coverage was up, then they insisted we put the $7K claim through MY insurance. A few months later I had to spend $3,200 more to fix a rear suspension problem....now 60 days later Im looking at $2,500 for a differential. I havent even touched on the problems with the steering column, or the window switches that dont work because the entire panel simply fell out of the drivers side door one day.

  • Our second lemon! - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
    By -

First we had R350. Gave that back w/in 1st mo.-too many probs w/transmission, thumping noise in rear when going over bumps, back hatch, & electrical probs. Upgraded 2 R500. Trans/electrical/back hatch (even after replacment)/srs sys/ nav sys & more! Car has keyless go-it started without a key twice! Several times after backing up, verifying car was in drive position, I pressed gas to go forward but car went backwards. Automatic trans.& rolls backwds like manual going up hills. Auto shifting between gears is jerky. It lurches forward when stepping on brake. Its been lemon lawed. People say "bad luck". No-bad car! Roadside assist. Came out 2 me 3 different times in 3 bad r350 loaners! Save yourself trouble
