Overview & Reviews
The all-new R-Class -- a premium wagon with more than a trace of minivan and SUV in its DNA -- joins the Mercedes-Benz lineup for 2006.
- Good performance, ritzy interior, supreme comfort and versatility.
- Long rear doors a problem in tight parking spaces.

Six Months Old and Growing on Me - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By MB4ME - November 28 - 8:10 amThis is my fourth MB, including 1 wagon and 2 sedans previously, all wonderful vehicles. R-Class has surprising ease of handling like a sedan. Interior is roomy for six adults and gorgeous. Reading the manual first is imperative to become familiar with the hi-tech features. Nav system is great once you master the input procedures. Cargo area adequate for my golf clubs and groceries with seats up. Great sound system. I am averaging 21 mpg. Awesome all-wheel drive and brakes gripped the road in downhill driveway in the snow. My teenagers are fascinated with the different and innovative crossover R. The more I drive the R-Class the more I appreciate the engineering and styling vision.

Do not buy an R350 - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By Pete - October 19 - 3:50 amWe purchased our car used from a Mercedes dealer, it has been in the shop 9 times in 8 months. Tail lamps melted, rear hatch locked shut, air vents all broke. Temperature controls were stuck on a temperature could not change. Plastic on seat rails has broken multiple times. Bad wheel bearing, rattled catalytic converter, broken latch over spare tire, misc trim pieces needed to be realigned. We loved the car initially but after 8 months of loaners for a week at a time in some cases we have vowed to never buy another Mercedes. We have had several Mercedes prior to this one and this car has been a major dissappointment. I would encourage anyone not to buy this car. Do your homework!

Excellent Sports Tourer - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By CaliforniaVehicleOrg - August 13 - 6:30 pmThe Mercedes Benz R class is unbelievable. It is reliable, fun to drive and sleek. Comes with great accesories and features as well. Even though sticker says the R500 gets around 18 mpg, it can actually get around 25 - 30 mpg.

MUST READ R500 REVIEW - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By rwagen - June 5 - 6:06 pmI am writing this to inform any potential R500 buyers out there of what to expect from this car. First the good stuff - this is the best car you will find with three row seating. It is really fast and luxurious. The V8 which they dont even offer anymore is bullet proof. It is the same engine that they have perfected over 10 years. The R350s are underpowered and there is a problem with the engine. There is a pending class action on the R350s. The gas mileage is not the best... FWY is 21 around town you will average 14-16 The 3 things that WILL need to be addressed are the transmission valvebody $2k, the airmatic shocks $1K and the rear taillights wiring $250 they WILL fail .

Tons of Room - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By MEJO - April 20 - 8:20 pmWe had an ML320 and were really looking to trade for a BMW wagon, but, then we found the R350. From the first time my 62" husband sat in the third row and was comfy to the way it handles we were sold. The R350 is a large vehicle but drives like a sedan. We have the Saks Fifth Avenue edition and love the looks inside. For those of us moms who refuse to drive a minivan this is the perfect car.

Gefahr! -Danger, may be addicting! - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By Ronnie Reyes - March 23 - 9:40 pmThis is my first MB and I came from a Durango LTD w/ the big V8 hemi. While torque and outright power are not the same I have no problem in this V6 cruising the interstate above the legal limit w/ ease and not putting any stress at all on the vehicle. Storage is not what it was, but is deceptively enough to put a $200 grocery purchase in the car w/ ease. The family fits great, the quality is MB and the safety aspect is more than worth the sticker. The only warning I can give is pay attention to which option package you choose. And everything is optional...MB should pay attention and put phone, NAV, back-up camera and memory seats as standard features on a car of this stature.

The Cruiser - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By JOHN - February 7 - 3:16 amMy Dad just recently leased the R500 for me. I only have about 300 miles on it and I am having some problems with the transmision and lots of rattling noises around the car. It is a kick to drive around and I love the power. But for a car that is just below 70K, it needs more standard features. Full leather seats was an option.

The un-minivan - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By Matthew - January 22 - 2:16 amComing up on 13k on our R350. My wife and I love it, as do our two kids. We aspire to own only one car at a time, and this is the perfect choice -- great for hauling around the kids and their friends, but dignified enough for adult occasions. Plus it is remarkably fun to drive for such a massive vehicle. Weve had it for more than a year now, and I still enjoy getting behind the wheel and going on long drives. Handling and acceleration are very good (considering the length and weight of the vehicle), brakes are excellent, and the ride is smooth. Its a mystery to me why MB hasnt made more of an effort to market this car. Yes, its expensive, but for families like ours, its perfect.

I Love it but the gas! - 2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
By Busy Mom - January 4 - 8:00 pmI bought this vehicle to accommodate my family of 5 and that it has done! Elegant look, smooth ride, and the space/seating capacity keeps the kids from fighting. The only issue I have had with this crossover is the gas mileage. It seems I am always at the gas station! We have to stop between our frequent team practices, and I often have to stop for gas several times during the week for work and extra curricular activities. This is a real drag. And we now have to plan a gas stop into our travel time when planning out our routines. This is no fun and it takes the pleasure out of driving this family dream machine.
