This Year's Model Updates:

The M-Class' navigation system enters the 21st century by ditching the old CD-ROM-based design for a much more efficient DVD-based setup. This is the lone change as the MLs received numerous updates last year.

Pros:
  • Safe, comfortable, brisk performance, surefooted in bad weather.
Cons:
  • On-road handling eclipsed by newer crossover SUVs, gets pricey fast if buyer gets tempted by too many options.

  • It is a rocket - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Having owned a variety of BMWs, MBs, and Lexuss, I can say that the ML 55 is simply for those that want an SUV that is all beast when you hit the gas. It lacks some of the basic conveniences and creature comforts that are found in lesser vehicles, but when you hit the gas, take a hard corner, and need it to respond, it there for you. No sissies need apply.

  • Awsome Offroad - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Shortly after purchasing this I got a lot of flack for buying a 4 wheel drive car that most people never take off- road. Living in the desert I quickly put them all to shame when I drove my ML through a wash that 2 lifted pick up trucks were currently stuck in and then proceded to do a 12 mile treck through the desert on a trail that was "Jeep Recomended". This SUV is the best SUV on the market. It has amazing off-road capabilities, a very comfortable interior, a powerful engine, and hardly any problems. But, what else would you expect from the vehicle the German military relies on.

Great SUV to drive around the town and on Hwy. Very easy to handle and park while fun to drive. ML350 has a good pick up and power delivery due to its higher and smoother torque delivery. It is kind of heavy (about 4800 lb) for its size but it is built solid and feels like a full size SUV. A bit tight in the back seat but still comfortable with proper air flow. If you get this car, try to get it with GPS and Bose audio system.

  • Gas Hog - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

The gas mileage on this vehicle has been awful. The sticker states it gets 15 city 18 hwy. I have yet to get 13 on the highway and I am lucky to get 11 around town. It is a noisy vehicle and really needs steering wheel audio controls. My GMC Yukon is overall a much better vehicle. The third row is even smaller than expected. It is pretty much useless.

  • I hate my ML500 - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I purchased two Mercedes because they built their name on quality, what a "joke". We own the ML500 & 350. The 500 was poorly built, a lot of repairs In less than one year, I have spent over $2,000.00 in repairs. Even the clear coat is peeling, both my Mercedes have this problem. I will never purchase another Mercedes, in fact I am trading both vehicles in this weekend for Lexus. Mercedes should be ashamed of themselves.

We bought this SUV new (it is our first, and only, SUV). It has always been very reliable and has provided us with the hauling capacity we needed (moving household goods and garden supplies). It has been comfortable on trips and for in city driving. Fuel economy is not this models forte--its a heavy vehicle with a large engine. Even though we are light footed, our in city fuel economy has always been between 12 and 13 MPG.

MB dealership very friendly and informative, no pressure to buy like other dealerships. Went from Explorer to ML320 like night and day, 320 rides and handles like a dream, very solid and secure no rattles like explorer.Plenty of safety features and comforts, killer Bose stereo.Third row seat actually is very well designed and useful alot better then i thought it would be.

Do not buy this SUV, what do you get for a 40K SUV: plastic, problems, bad customer services, everything could go wrong will go wrong from the engine to trans, window, etc. Shop around for your money, dont pay for the name

  • Liking it! - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I bought a used 2003 with low miles and just love the way it handles the road, especially in the rain. The sound system and climate controls are superb.

  • A nice SUV overall - 2003 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

This SUV is one of the safetest vehicles currently available. Its handling and ride quality are very good. The exterior styling is nice. The interior styling is ok. The instrument panel is, for the most part, ergonomically layed out. The third row seats are a nice option to have. The new auto climate controls for the front and the back work well. However, the sun sensor is a little too sensitive. As far as reliability, our vehicle has been solid and we have had zero problems to report in the last year. There are currently a lot of choices available in the premium SUV market, but MB is staying with the competition.
