Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

  • Bad electrical system - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Great car fun to drive. Lots of electrical problems, cant remember how many times I have had the radio repaired or replaced, still not fixed. Dont waste your money on this one.

  • Poorly design and manufactured vehicle - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Nothing but failures, suspension, AC/Heat, computer, sensors, on and on. When running the car is a joy to drive. However, the maintenance expense before and after the warranty is the worst I have ever experienced in all my years of owning cars. The experienced has been nothing but a let down of my expectations of owning a certified pre-owned vehicle with less than 20,000 miles when I purchased it. Definitely has lowered my opinion of the franchise.

150 days of ownership, 29 of those days in the shop. I get to live through a slow and painful rebuild of my new car. Doors removed/replaced, all window & door rubber replaced to stop howling wind(still to loud for a conversation) rear door handles replaced, wood trim delaminated, headlights not adj.,glove box door and latch replacement(2), door pocket replaced(Fabric felloff),sunroof leaks, hood misaligne(cant be fxd)bad brakes, auto adj. for seat/strng wheel does not work, teleaid does not work, instrument cluster replaced, wipers replaced (BANGING across windshield) buzz/rattle from every corner. Dont buy this car.

I test drove one of these and wasnt very impressed. The engine under load sounds like an overstressed rental car. If you dont need the space, the BMW 3-series diesel is a much better car for less money. Or take a look at the A6 TDI.

  • This car cant be over $60,000. - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I have read the reviews and cant believe that no one has commented on how small the new E500 is. I had previously owned an E320 and loved it. The car is supposedly an inch bigger everywhere but the trunk and backseat are so small that I could not use it to take customers in. I just traded this car for an S430.

  • All that glitters is not Gold - 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Fell in love with it at dealership, all the cool features and gizmos. Worked for a while then I realized it was a lot of gadgetry, poorly thought out and designed for a good first impression. Than reality set it. Electronics worked about a month, then started going caput, one thing after another. Never even sure the radio will play till it does. Cheap plastic parts breaking etc.Not near the quality I expected and not near as reliable as or functional as my old99 Navigator or my wifes 03 Navigator. That is a real car! God help the person who gets it after the warranty expires!

  • Whats with the rust? - 2001 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Buyer beware! Buy something else, anything but this car! When I bought the car it had a couple of spots where the paint had bubbled up. Since then the car has been rusting worst than a tin can even though Ive been keeping it in the garage. Mercedes refused to address problem (5yr/50,000 mile nonsense). $3,000 body work. Also, paid $350 to replace airbag sensor in front passenger seat. Dealer claims it happened because a heavy person sat in the car (whats up with that?) Spent $150 on rear window actuator. Dealer said because I dont open that window very often the glass got stuck to the rim!!!??? Oh, yeah one of the catalytic converters was replaced too!

  • My 2014 E350 Sedan Sport not a quality machine - 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Car in shop too many times for too many issues in first month of ownership. Long time loyalty to brand to the tune of 1 new MB a year for several years. Asked them to buy car back before the issues grow. Two systems they still cannot fix - 360 camera and Sirius radio. They told me they are happy to honor the warranty but will not take car back. So much for loyalty. MBUSA customer service is under trained and incapable of client retention. 3000 miles on car in shop two times for two weeks with the service area working on items and not able to fully repair. MBUSA aware of factory 360 camera issue, Sirius - no clue. 30% chance that something will not work when driven.

  • Too expensive to maintain!!!!! - 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

I have never written a review on a car until this one. It has been soo expensive to repair I felt I had to warn people not to buy the car. The rear windows use some sort of plastic strap to make them go up and down and they dry rot. They have broken 4 times in my ownership and it cost $600 each. Service is 300-700 every 7,000 miles. Every time you bring it in for service there is something new that will cost you another $500. The most recent issue is they said the rubber boots around my axles are cracking and they want $1,200 to fix it. Thats right not that the axles are out just the BOOTS and it is going to be $1,200. I am buying a LEXUS or ACURA next.

  • My first MB and most likely the last! - 1996 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

This car was my first MB and due to the problems and quality most likely my last. At 100K the engine (in-line 6) began leaking oil at the head. I have also had electrical problems with the dash and rear tail-lights. I could live with these issues but the other day while driving down the road my front left spring fell out! The spring pearch had rusted off. If I was going faster someone could have been killed as my spring went bouncing down the road!
