Model Overview:

A favorite in the midsize luxury car class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has provided an appealing mix of comfort, performance and safety for decades. The trademark qualities of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, such as vaultlike solidity and cutting-edge technology, have also contributed to the E-Class' great popularity among luxury buyers.

Over the years, the E-Class has been offered as a sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible. Contemporary E-Class models come loaded with luxury features and offer stunning acceleration in higher trim levels, with diesel power available if you want to maximize your fuel economy. The E-Class has never been the sportiest car in its segment, but its handling has improved significantly in recent years. Rivals are better in certain respects, but if you're looking for the complete package in a medium-size luxury car, an E-Class will be hard to beat.

  • Faulty Electrical - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

The car has been in the service department to replace control unit for radio. Problem continued and another electrical part was the problem. Cost to repair is excessive. Also the remote door locks failed and a sensor for hood latch failed. Fun car to drive when it it not in repair shop.

  • Good not Great - 2009 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

We currently have a 2009 Mercedes Wagon with 15k miles on it. Also for context we have a Toyota mini-van and a Prius. This current wagon only seems special when you are on the highway. There it is in its element. Extremely smooth, quiet yet with the classic German feel. Other than price it isnt much different from the Toyotas. Overall build quality actually seems to be less than the Toyotas I am sad to say. We have had a number of minor problems with the electrical and mechanical systems. The CD player still doesnt work. The right windshield wiper stopped working etc. In general it seems as the though the car is several years behind the competitors in features.

  • Excellence?? - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

After 1900 miles on my new $60,000 vehicle, I ve had to have the front end replaced due to failure in cross arms and bushings. I thought maybe I it was an unusual occurance. Im now at 4800 miles and 45 days later. Oh Im on my way back to the dealer with the same problem. I m wondering if anyone else has experienced the same problem???

  • Frustrated long time MB owner! - 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Three major problems resulting in overnite service: Emergency brake release came completely out of dashboard; could not move vehicle. Harness for seatbags defective and had to be replaced. Starter key went "dead" after 17,000 mi. Could not reset clock for daylight time, nor could three dealer service personnel! Confusing option "sets" on steering wheel. etc etc

  • What quality?? - 1999 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Purchased vehicle as a Starmark pre- owned vehicle with 28k on the odometer in April of 2002. Since then Mercedes has spent approx $10k on repairing the vehicle. Everything from new transmission to power window motors steering issues and a very faulty air conditioner plus plus plus. This is my second and definitely my last Mercedes. Previous vehicle was a Q45 that ran 245K miles without a hiccup. Mercedes quality trails the Japanese cars by a long mile!

Nice Exterior Styling, Expensive Options, needs improvement on performance and handling, good interior, sound system could be better, seats need improvement.

  • Ugh-first and last Mercedes for me.... - 1997 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Love the power of my 19997 E420, but hate the fact that every little electronic part is failing: the ECU ($2000+), the little fan over the mirror ($200), the seat adjustment working backwards ($???), the ignition key cylinder ($200), the mirror control ($///), the stupid cup holder.... Going on sale this week...

  • Beware Mercedes doesnt have parts for this car - 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

I purchased my brand new 2014 e350 in May 2013. Unfortunately someone rear ended it two weeks later. It has been over 2 months and Mercedes is unable to replace the rear bumper on my car. They cannot give me an answer to when they will have the part. I did not expect this from Mercedes. Beware people before you buy Mercedes. Are they going bankrupt?

  • Electrical nightmare - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Car has been and electrical and mechanical nightmare. Dealer had car for almost 2 months trying to fix charging problem. Software upgrades and failures galore. The dealer has been fine, but the overall quaility is terrible. I have owned Mercedes for over 20 years, and this thing is a lemon.

  • Not worth the $$$$ - 2004 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Generally, it is an "OK" vehicle. Having said that, "OK" is not good enough for a MB vehicle. Based on the brand and the price, I am very disappointed in both my MBs. Our E-Class had to have a part in the heater replaced, which was several hundred dollars. That repair was shortly followed by the front suspension wearing out, which cost a couple thousand dollars. All these repairs were needed prior to 80,000 miles. I wouldnt expect these type of issues from "any" high end luxury vehicle, much less a Mercedes. The seats are extremely firm, liken to sitting on a cinder block. We also own a ML, which has spent most of its life in the garage, costing us thousands of dollars.
