This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, both the wagon and the slow-selling C-Class coupe are history, leaving only the sedan. A V6 engine is now standard on every sedan model. The C230 gets a new 201-hp, 2.5-liter V6, while the C240 is renamed the C280 and has a 228-hp, 3.0-liter V6. The C320 is now the C350, boasting a 268-hp, 3.5-liter V6. 4Matic-equipped vehicles get an improved five-speed automatic, and rear-wheel-drive models get a new seven-speed automatic.

Pros:
  • State-of-the-art safety and luxury features, pleasing power from top V6 engine.
Cons:
  • More expensive than competitors, ordinary cabin furnishings, small backseat, only available as a sedan.

I bought my wife a 06 C230 and she loves it. I have to admit, I love it also. We looked at the Acura TL and she loved the stereo but didnt care for the bland styling. The acura out performs the C230 but it is just lacking that....something. The C230 has above average performance and beautiful styling. The interior is nicely laid out and very plush. The sound system is very nice but not among the best in its class. We bought it with the entertainment package and the stereo isnt even in the same league as Acura TL. Overall, I think this is a great vehicle and a bit under rated.

I love the feel of the steering. i love the memory seats and steering wheel. The stereo sounds great and it looks so good in black. I have a 2004 Acura TL and this car is now my favorite to drive. Its not fast like my TL but the steering feel is much better. maybe because its rear wheel drive instead of friont drive. The car also goes over the bumps in the road smoothly. the car feels so solid. Wish it had a few more options for the money but still it is a great vehicle even if a little pricey for what you get in comparison to the Japanese cars.

Having looked at all competing models, the 2006 C230 is easly my favorite. Ive had it for about 7 weeks and still have to pinch myself ever morning before driving to work. Its easly the most timless design inside and out with superb detailing, fit and finish. I constantly receive looks of admiration and positive feedback. The perfomance is excellent in every way. The only notable exception is the occassional lack of transmission responsivness at lower rpm range. This is somewhat unacceptable for a sports sedan. Freeway perfomance is excellent, with amazing acceleration and incredible braking power. I often find myself driving too fast because of how smooth, quiet and solid the car is.

  • Great Car! - 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Ive had this car for 2 months now, and I love every minute I drive it. I have a 6 speed manual, and its shifting is so smooth, and has amazing power and pickup, with decent fuel economy (23/30). So far I havent had any problems with it. Id definitely recommend this vehicle to anyone considering it. The V6 is definitely a plus compared to the old 1.8 I4 vacuum sounding engine from previous years

  • Great ride for the money - 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Really a smooth, quite ride with good acceleration. Great turning radius - much better than the S60 Volvo awd. Also responds better to the road the the Volvo or the Jag x type. Controls are confusing, setting the dials requires a look at the manual each time. Like the visability from the drivers seat - judging the front end is easier with the mercedes emblem out front. Very few blind spots. AWD responds real well in the snow - stabilizes quite well.

I have had my car for 15,700 miles now. I had a wreck that caused over $ 14,000 in damage when I hit a tree but I walked away with no injuries, not even a headache. Airbag didnt even go off due to location of impact and I was still unharmed. I was leary about repair due to amount of damage but frame was unharmed. It is just like new. Love the looks, comfort, and especially the safety.

  • Transmission Problems Right After 4 Years - 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

This was the first time that I purchased a brand new car. It has been nothing but problems since owning it. In addition to costly regular maintenance, I have had to replace brakes, rotors twice, tires need to be replaced often, the power steering pump went out, and shortly after 52,000 miles I began having transmission problems. It continues to start in a higher gear creating lag when I push on the gas. Other times, it will not automatically upshift and stays in first gear. In ordet to override the problem, I pull over, turn off the car, and then restart again. I will NEVER purchase a MB again.

  • C55 Amazing Power - Everything else???? - 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Nothing else can compare this this cars power. That is about where it ends for me. Within two weeks of delivery the remote access FOB features quit working and the radio was in a constant state of static and random on off behavior. A warranty trip to the dealer and the radio was fixed and they said the keyless access was fixed as well. The keyless access quit working two days later and this was followed by a HUGE transmission fluid leak in my garage and a mysterious flapping sound coming from the engine compartment. Back to the dealer again. They advised they leak in the tranny was a common problem and they could not find the mysterious noise after numerious attempts.

  • My first AMG - 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Bought my C55AMG from a friend and I am very happy that I did. Incredibly fun to drive, has a sports car feel with a European sedan look. It is a real sleeper except to those who know AMG, and I am surprised how many people know AMG. Ride is a bit stiff but the handling makes up for it. Im getting 22+mpg on the road and 19mpg around town if Im not on the gas.

I just traded in my 2002 C240 for a 2006 C280...comparitively, it was as if I just walked into a cheap E class. While the C240 was a great deal at the time and a good first into into the Mercedes line, the C280 is just loads more fun, far more luxurious and a hell of a lot faster. The styling and appointments are significantly plush and sophisticated than both the Audi A4 and the BMW 3 series, and I know it gets more admiring double takes than either of the others. I cant imagine that there is a better deal under $40k for German engineering than the 2006 C280.
