This Year's Model Updates:

The completely redesigned 2009 Mazda 6 boasts upsized dimensions and powertrains that put it on par with segment leaders, yet it largely retains its distinctive fun-to-drive character.

Pros:
  • Roomy cabin, big trunk, muscular performance from V6, smooth automatic transmissions, relatively sporty handling.
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy, some cheap interior materials, not as much "zoom-zoom" as enthusiasts might like.

  • New Car - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

We have just purchased this car and have driven it about 1500 mile, including a trip of 1100 miles and have loved every minute of it. So far it has performed to perfection. It has more bells and whistles than I knew existed but they all work and are quite useful. Would recommend this car to anyone and the dealer C & S Car Co. in Waterloo, Iowa. It far surpasses the 02 Altima we traded on it.

I researched and test drove all competitive models before making my purchase. As soon as I drove the new Mazda6, I knew it was the one. The mix of power, sport, comfort, and styling is unmatched in the class. I drive a lot of miles per year and have already racked up 6K miles. I have been getting about 28 MPG on average, with a lot of those miles spent at 80 MPH on the interstate. My only complaint so far is the transmission. It seems to shift lazily at times, especially during 1-2-3 transition, and when coming to a stop you can actually feel the trans downshift. But overall, I have been very pleased with the car.

I bought a silver 2009 I-touring plus to replace my 2002 Mazda Protege. The car is wonderful - well-built, smooth riding, and good looking inside and out. The blue backlighting on the gauges is SO COOL! Ive received many compliments on the car. The dealership I bought from has a 14-acre test track on site, so I was able to put the car through its paces. I was thrilled with how the vehicle responded. The 6 is larger than the Protege, but still very agile and responsive. The car combines luxury and sportiness at an affordable price.

Have Bose/moonroof package & convenience package. Car has handled extremely well in the snow and climate control has been great during the recent cold snap. Replaced my 00 Grand Am GT1 6 cyl. Felt comfortable from the first test drive. Tested Corolla, Civic, Camry, and others but settled on the 6 for its combination of style, handling, features, and safety. Great value. Can be a bit slow off the stop line, but the 4 cyl flies nicely on the highway once at speed. Convenience package is a must to get rid of the Buick like upholstered door trim. Xenon lights a huge plus. Bose sound is great. Like the aux jack in the armrest. Rural road and expressway commute - averaging 27-28 mpg at 2700 mi.

This car is very fast. The drive is comfortable and smooth. I love how it just hugs the turns. The combination of cloth and leather seats is the best. I cant say enough about this car. I just love!!

  • MUST Buy - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

Owned many a Mazda - B2000, Miata(x2), MS3, M6 (2006) and now the 2009. Ive never posted a review but thought this time I MUST. Every year Mazda just gets better and better, this current 2009 Mazda6 is the biggest bang for the buck BY FAR overall. Mine is the Mazda6I Grand Touring 4-cyl with the optional Moonroof & Bose Pkg. I owed 10k on my previous M6 & traded up for the new 09. I need to mention... 130,000 miles with not one single problem, just tires brakes. With that excessive mileage, the bluebook value had me under about 4 grand. Times are tough right now, so the dealer was kind enough to pay it off and not jack the MSRP price of the new, do the math 4$$$ shaved. Oh,BTW, 30MPG baby!

Best in class! My wife has an Altima 3.5 SE CVT Coupe with all options. I wanted a car with all the same features but in a sedan that has more style than all the others in its class. The Mazda 6s GT does it all with style. I bought a 1st gen Mazda 6s in 2003, which was a decent car for the price. It wasnt better than others in its class back then. The new 6 is a far superior car. Mazda engineers really hit the mark with it. I was looking at the next step up in class (Maxima or G37) for style, tech pkg, refinement. The 6 matches them and for way less money. Test them all - Fusion, Malibu, Accord, Camry, Altima. Its awesome and performs like my 04 A6 2.7T I just sold ONLY BETTER

  • WOW! - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

I just purchased my first Mazda. After researching the Accord, Camry and Altima, I ended up in a new 2009 Mazda6 Grand Touring. It was really an easy decision after comparing these cars and what I could get for my $$. My Mazda is loaded and a blast to drive! This is my first Mazda and I have to say, Im very impressed. I initially wanted the V6, but after driving them both, I decided the 4 cylinder would be more efficient on gas. I dont regret it at all. Its very peppy, in fact, it is even spunkier than my old car which was a V6! I highly recommend this vehicle. If youre on the fence about what to buy, take one for a drive... youll be sold!

  • I expected more. - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

I had owned Honda Accords for 12 years but then, I fell in love with the Mazda6 body style! I have driven it for 1 year now and although I still love the outside of the car, I am unhappy with the quality of the inside. I have had the dealer replace all the seat bottoms because, they ALL began to wear where there is wire under the cloth. This is true in every Mazda6 out there! Push on the seam and you will feel it. Now the driver seat needs to be replaced where the seatbelt is rubbing through the fabric (I am short and have the seat pretty far forward). The gauges are hard to read due to the steering wheel, no matter how I adjust it.

  • Camry Killer? - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

We were on our way to test drive a new Camry. Took a swing into the Mazda dealer because I knew the design had changed and wanted to check it out. After a test drive we kept our appointment w/ the Toyota dealer. This Mazda has it all over the Camry, I couldnt even get alloy wheels on the LE model (which really pi**ed me off). Short story, we went back to Mazda and got a good deal on a car (so far, 2 mos) that I think is nicer than the Camry (which is a very nice car).
