This Year's Model Updates:

The completely redesigned 2009 Mazda 6 boasts upsized dimensions and powertrains that put it on par with segment leaders, yet it largely retains its distinctive fun-to-drive character.

Pros:
  • Roomy cabin, big trunk, muscular performance from V6, smooth automatic transmissions, relatively sporty handling.
Cons:
  • Mediocre fuel economy, some cheap interior materials, not as much "zoom-zoom" as enthusiasts might like.

  • Former Camry Owner - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

I love my new Mazda6! Ive only had the car a week, so I cant actually attest to its reliability, but, from my limited experience with this car, I cant think of many things to complain about. It handles great, is quiet, the Bose system is very nice, not necessarily exceptional, but very nice nonetheless. Fit and finish seems exceptionally nice. The doors give that solid "thunk" sound when closed. There are many soft touch surfaces inside, and very few cheap plastics. Nice amenities abound, with lights galore. The trunk is huge, with nifty little side hooks to hang grocery sacks or whatever. The car looks good both inside and out. Great job Mazda!! You won this former Camry owner over....

  • Mazdas plan worked! - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

I have been a Honda owner for the last 20 years. When it came time to trade in my CR-V, I was ready for a sedan. The Accord was nice, drove perfectly fine, and looked very elegant, but wasnt as exciting as the Mazda. The Accord just didnt have the "Zoom, Zoom." I had forgotten how much fun driving can be. Mazdas plan to compete with Honda for market share worked on this Honda owner. Ive only had it for 1 week, but I love it more each day I drive it.

  • Zoom Zoom and thensome - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

After looking at other cars (Altima, Accord, TSX), I knew this was the car for me. Stylish design inside and out, awesome features that you cant find in several other mid-sized cars in this category, and an unmistakable zoom-zoom sports car attitude that no other car, cheaper or more expensive, can come close to touching. The 3.7 is the way to go with this car! For a little less fuel economy than that smaller engine, and a little more money, its worth every penny to get the more powerful engine.

This is my second mazda6, I bought the four cyl one last December. I love this car sooo much I had to have the v6 model. Now I have 2. Fantastic vehicle. Hands down blows away the Nissan altima/Honda accord/and Camry. For the money this is the best car around. The competition dollar for dollar is blown away. You gotta test drive this car. Dealers eager to negotiate price. Great handling characteristics, so fun to drive!

  • Get The Automatic!!!! - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

I have always liked to drive a stick and so I opted for the 6 speed manual. It is a mistake on this car. The gearing is such that the car revs at 3000 RPM or higher on the highway at 65-70 MPH. I drove an automatic when on a trip recently, and it only revs at 2000-2500 RPM at highway speeds. This gearing is probably why the automatic gets better mileage. The automatic shifts fast and smooth and is no slouch either. If I had it to do again, automatic all the way. The four isnt bad. But the six kicks tail. If you can get the six for a good deal, jump on it. You wont regret it even with the lower gas mileage. Option wise, it is almost in a class with a Lexus

I have owned the Mazda6 for almost a year now. I have over 11,000 miles and have not had any problems with the Mazda6. The acceleration is amazing. I have clocked my Mazda6 from 0-60 in 6.0 Seconds. I have raced an Acura TL, Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Ford Fusion, Nissan Altima and beat them all. You must buy the 3.7 liter though, because its more fun to drive. I test drove both engines and the 2.5 liter is not as fun. The gas mileage is great for a V6 at 272 horse power and 269 pound feet of torque. I am getting 22 city/29 highway. The Mazda6 still drives as good as the day I bought it. I love the quality of the Mazda6. I would recommend the Mazda6 to anyone.

I have had my Mazda6 S Grand Touring for over a month now and I love it. It a great looking car while on the road and/or parked in a parking lot. You cant go wrong if you are looking to make a statement riding around time. "Zoom Zoom baby!"

After carefully shopping all midsized autos, there was no contest - the others just didnt match up. Now after over 8,000 mi and traveling from Cal to Ala. and back Im still impressed. Its a combination of capabilities - on curvy mountain roads its a sports car; when passing up hill on a two lane road its a hot rod; when hauling people its a roomy, comfortable, relaxing ride. What was most surprising was the gas mileage - better than advertised. I get 21 and a half doing 50-50 town and country, and driving cross country with hours at 75 and 80 mph I averaged just over 27 mpg.

  • Dont bother - 2009 Mazda Mazda6

After 8 months I have had problems with the A/C, Mileage is awful, exterior finish is below par, suspension and steering noises. I am trying to sell it to get a Honda. Even a Hyundai would be better now.
