This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, all vehicles in the Mazda 6 lineup have revised front and rear fascias, while sport package-equipped models get a new grille and side sill design. The optional automatic transmission on four-cylinder models is upgraded from a four-speed unit to a five-speed. Additionally, the V6 has been modified to improve exhaust emissions, resulting in 5 less horsepower (now 215). ABS and traction control are now standard on all i models, while all s models now come with an eight-way power driver seat, an alarm system and a standard side and side curtain airbags.

Pros:

  • All around nice & sporty sedan - 2006 Mazda Mazda6

Ive had this car for almost six months and I love it. I like the design inside and out. The base model has plenty of standard features and a good size trunk. Ive wanted a Mazda 6 for a couple of years now and Im glad I got a good deal on the 2006 version.

  • Very nice car with minor flaws. - 2006 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

Ive only had the car for 6 weeks. So far I consider it a good buy. I will mention the flaws, and anything else Im happy with. The car doesnt have enough insulation to keep out surrounding noise. The turning radius in the car is too wide, which is odd. I mean, why? The lumbar support on the drivers seat has already broken. When stepping hard on the gas to pass on the highway the engine drops down to 2nd gear and the tachometer comes very close to the red line. The gas mileage is not as advertised, although Ive been told by a knowledgeable friend that it will probably increase in time with engine break-in. The seats are somewhat uncomfortable after sitting in them a while.

  • I love my Mazda6! - 2006 Mazda Mazda6

I have had my mazda for 3 years, and have done lots of driving on long trips and within the city. The current mileage is 60k. I have never had a single problem with my Mazda thus far. It handles excellently, and I consistently get compliments on the sexy look of the car. As a student, its the nicest car around. The interior is comfortable, which is especially great for those long road trips. I highly recommend the Mazda6!

  • Copper Blazed Fun - 2006 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

I own a Copper Blaze Metallic hatchback with the 6 cylinder and the 6 speed auto. Great car that is plenty fast and looks great. A very visible car that hauls mulch, bicycles, or my wife and I to a fancy dinner. This car does it all. City mileage is a little disappointing (22-23mpg), but highway mileage is pretty good (28-30). With a decent size gas tank, 450 miles between fill-ups is easy. The manumatic is useless as in all cars but the 6 speed auto shifts nicely. Having to take the car in for an oil change is a bummer and Mazda will not sell the needed oil filter wrench through a dealer. Overall, a great value and a lot of fun.

  • Nice Car - 2006 Mazda Mazda6

This car is a lot of fun to drive - the Tiptronic transmission is great in the mountains and really helps the acceleration. It handles very nicely and cruises very smoothly at 80mph. Interior design is beautiful. Two complaints: fuel economy - I do mostly freeway driving and am only averaging about 20mpg. 2nd complaint - 800 miles on the car and the check engine light came on. Havent brought it in yet; but am sure its nothing - car is running fine.

  • Even my Parents want to ZOOM-ZOOM - 2006 Mazda Mazda6

I love my car, but I think my parents love it more. The sedan drives like a sports car.

  • Great mid size car - 2006 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

I have a 2006 Mazda6 i and have owned it for a little over two years now. I am very happy with this cars performance and looks. I have received many compliments at work on the exterior paint and design. Definitely an eye catcher. One thing I do not like in regards to the Mazda6 is the cloth interior. It is very cheap and wears a lot (especially for a model that is not low end for Mazda). The Mazda 3 even has better interior than the 6. I have already had the cloth seats redone under warranty and they have worn out again.

  • A fun mid-size sedan - 2006 Mazda Mazda6

Ive had my 6 i Sport with AT for about a month now and so far it has been a very enjoyable car to drive. I like the design (both exterior and interior), which offers a sporty look. The sport package adds a lot of nice standard features. The Bose audio system is great, although the CD changer shouldve been MP3 compatible as a standard feature. I find that the AT tends to be a bit slow to downshift sometimes, but maybe its just my style of driving. Overall it performs well and smooth. The interior is quiet and well laid out. Im getting about 27mpg so far in mixed driving, but expect that to improve a bit.

  • Great Car / Great Value - 2006 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

Handles like a sports car, especially on twisty country roads, FUN to drive and as comfortable as a big highway cruiser on long trips. My opinion: you dont need the V6; the 4 is sufficient and when you need to punch it it really takes off. Mileage from 23 to 29 mixed highway/city and with and without a/c. 4,700 miles and so far not a squeak, rattle or problem. Perfect size vehicle, plenty of room yet agile; cant beat the versatility of the hatch. Excellent driving position; very comfortable seats. Very quiet. Transmission nice and smooth. On the downside: bad rear over the shoulder blind spot; side mirrors dont retract (very bad for living in NYC); turning radius is annoying but not horrible.

  • Most reliable car I ever bought - 2006 Mazda Mazda6
    By -

I bought my Mazda6 new in 2006 and have been really happy with it. I commute 60 miles a day round trip and have never had it in the shop for anything other than regular maintanence. The only minor thing that was ever wrong with it was a missalignment of the window washer fluid jets. It has never left me stranded, never has made any weird sounds and is really quite fun to drive. I just got it detailed, waxed and the headlights buffed and people at work think the car still looks brand new. The body style is still so current, I dont know if it will ever be outdated. I am so glad that I made the choice to buy Mazda.
