For 2006, all vehicles in the Mazda 6 lineup have revised front and rear fascias, while sport package-equipped models get a new grille and side sill design. The optional automatic transmission on four-cylinder models is upgraded from a four-speed unit to a five-speed. Additionally, the V6 has been modified to improve exhaust emissions, resulting in 5 less horsepower (now 215). ABS and traction control are now standard on all i models, while all s models now come with an eight-way power driver seat, an alarm system and a standard side and side curtain airbags.
- More fun to drive than most family cars, slick-shifting manual transmission, smooth power delivery, nicely appointed interior, multiple body styles.

I was looking for a car to keep and not keep trading every few years. I think I have found it in the Mazda6. I like the handling, equipment, styling, roominess. I have the 2.3l 5speed.

Cloth seats, sunroof, spoiler, 6 disc CD, power windows and seats, airbags all around, and all for $20,000 brand new. This thing eats up the road like nothing Ive ever driven before. I drive about 200 miles of rural, s-curves everyday and love every minute of it. Zoom, zoom is right on, but watch tire choices when you have to buy new. Suspension is so tight, tires sometimes cant keep up. Value X 10 for the cost. Stops on a dime! Half the price (and great financing options) of a BMW 3 series, but not nearly half the experience. This from someone who was driving a different car every two years, but I think Ive found THE ONE!

I bought it because it was a great value, fully loaded V6 for $13k and only 27,000 miles. The interior isnt as rich as the new model but it is certainly respectable and intuitive. There is storage aplenty and its just the right size. The exterior styling is great, and the ride is firm but not punishing with the 18 inch wheels. The only downside is a slightly notchy transmission at low speeds, but at highway speeds this is the best car ive driven. The Ford-sourced V6 is potent, and I get between 24 and 29 MPG, excellent for a V6.

By dano100 - September 20 - 4:00 pmJust purchased 2 days ago after trading in an 06 Civic (that had many issues) and am extremely impressed with this car. It was a leftover 06 that I got for almost $9000 off. It is not the fastest in its segment but handles better than anything in its class. And I know about handling (previous cars: Toyota Supra, Nissan 300ZX, Miata, Honda S2000, an Acura CL and TL). I just cant get over how cheap the interiors are getting on most of the mainstream cars today. The quality of the materials Mazda still puts in the 6 is to be applauded. My only concern about this car is the durability of the engine, being a Ford block, but only time will tell. Right now at $9000 off this is the best car for the money.

Its a car you dont see on the road often, which is unfortunate because they are great cars. As soon as I sat in the drivers seat I knew this was my car. The handling is so smooth, the seats are incredibly comfortable, and theres a good amount of room inside. The other day I was traveling at 70 mph...didnt even realize it. Thats how smooth it is. Didnt feel a single bump in the road. The exterior is beautiful, as is the interior. If I had to complain about anything, the gas mileage is just so-so. However, I wouldnt take any other car on the road over this one.

By Mr. S - May 7 - 10:20 pmI have looked at these cars since 2003 when the new model line came out. I am glad I waited this 2006 model is great. Plenty of power for what I need. Plenty of room and what can I say about the looks - wow! I got about everything that can come with it, except leather. Also it has a very comfortable ride for a car of its size.

Bad Transmission - 2006 Mazda Mazda6
By saltguy - March 5 - 2:00 amMy wife bought this car almost four years and 54,000 miles ago. Just went out of warranty (50,000) and needs a new transmission. We took the car in a year ago, under warranty, and the mechanics couldnt find the problem we were having with the car slipping out of gear while accelerating. It started to get worse right after we went over 50,000 miles, so we took it back in. They isolated the issue, but said it wasnt covered by warranty anymore. No way a car with 54,000 highway miles should need a new transmission. And the fact that Mazda wouldnt stand behind the car tells me a lot about their confidence in their product. This was our first and last Mazda. Done!

By kmaurer - January 23 - 9:40 pmJust purchased a Mazda6 i AT. There is plenty of power with the 4 cylinder (dont believe all the reviews), the engine is willing to "rev." Like the smaller size of the car (not as big as a CamCord). The new fabric in 06 is definitely much better than previous models, the 5-speed auto works well with the engine. Buying experience was OK, Mazdas are in hot demand in my area (UT). Overall, a satisfied Mazda owner!

By Howard Hanson - November 11 - 11:50 pmVery fun to drive on highway or side road. Handles very well. Suspension provides very smooth turns and makes the petty 4 cylinder easy to control. My preference for a responsive ride is satisfied with the Mazda6. Mazda engineers provide an interesting gear ratio/shifting in our automatic that gets the most out of the 4 cylinder.
