This Year's Model Updates:

The Mazda 3 is an all-new economy sedan and hatchback that replaces the Protege in Mazda's lineup.

Pros:
  • Fun-to-drive character, stylish interior design, strong engines, hatchback utility.
Cons:
  • Ride might be too stiff for some, a few ergonomic quirks, tight rear legroom.

  • Brand new Mazda 3 -- had it for 2 weeks - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

I test drove the Civic, Corolla, Sentra, Golf, Jetta and 2003 Protege. This was the best package I found for the price. The ride is very nice, and not jelly-like (see Honda Civic base model).

  • Oily MESS - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

I like everything about the car so far except changing oil. First, the hole in the belly pan isnt aligned with the filter, so the entire belly pan must be removed. Then, instead of a spin on filter this car uses a cartridge type that must be cleaned and replaced. It is an oily mess to say the least. After writing to Mazda about the belly pan they said that they are not going to replace it at this time. So... if you want to change your own oil, plan on removing the belly pan or youll never get at the filter. This flaw and lack of attention to detail really detract from the car in my opinion.

  • Cute, but whats the deal - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

This car is fun- very speedy for a 4 cylinder. Good suspension compared to the Civic SI. I cant figure out why all the dash lights keep coming on... airbag and then check engine light?

This car is a lot of fun to drive. Handles well, brakes well, and accelerates well.

    A. Its hard to rate build quality after and reliability after 1 month. B. My only complaint is one of the things I loved at first. Its hard to read all the red stuff on the dash at night. Also, the emergency brake light should be a color other than red or a signal should sound. The red brake light just blends in with all the other red.

Bought it new. Have 19000 miles. Rear engine mount had to be replaced under warranty and a TSB performed on the drivers side front end. New tires about a month ago. Other than that, nothing but oil changes every 2500 miles which is about every 4 months at $21.95 (dealer with coupon) This engine loves the freeway! 420 miles on a tank of gas. Good visibility all the way around, seats offer good support, good ergonomics, weak A/C (blows cold but fan lacks speed, must run at 4 to get some air but then its too loud). Mostly happy with it. Good platform, rev it up and you will be rewarded. For "coat hangar in the mouth" smile though, try the Speed3.

  • Will I buy it again? - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
    By -

It was the most beautiful in its class when it came out. In fact its one of the most beautiful still. But will I buy it again? Ive been trading-in my cars every 3 years just before the warranty expires, since 1991. I have never bought a domestic {for obvious reasons} nor have I bought the same model of the same manufacture, twice. In other wards, no one has impressed me that much to get me to return. The Mazda 3sport, is no exception. For my taste; It is underpowered. I need at least a 100hp for every liter. I also do not need an engine bigger than 1.8L. The customer service {just like all of the previous manufacturers, at least 6 anyway}, is indifferent, at best.

  • Major Change - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

You have a lot to improve. Mazda you need to higher who sense of what a car needs. Executive do you watch "Pimple my ride.?" First, you need an automatic engine; Get the gas tank on the driver side ; Leather heated seats, Remote controller, better gas mileage;more room at the back; Better stereo please.!!!

  • A great value - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

I really enjoy my S hatchback. It has lots of pep, handles great and a super value. My wife drives a 325 XI BMW which is a super car, but dollar for dollar I perfer the Mazda. Its been over a month now and I still enjoy my drive time in the car. If there is a better valve out there I dont know what it is.
