The Mazda 3 is an all-new economy sedan and hatchback that replaces the Protege in Mazda's lineup.

Pros:
  • Fun-to-drive character, stylish interior design, strong engines, hatchback utility.
Cons:
  • Ride might be too stiff for some, a few ergonomic quirks, tight rear legroom.

Had to return to the dealer twice for the same problem with the front end. Dealer was great.

  • Forget about Honda and Toyota - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

This is a great car. If your considering a Honda Civic or a Toyota, even a Jetta, take a look at the Mazda3. For the money I dont think anything compares! I have been car shopping for 3 months, was going to make the "typical" purchase of the Honda Civic. Toyota just had no appeal and the Jetta was a little pricy for everything thing I wanted, sunroof, CD changer, pwr everything, etc. Once I heard about the Mazda3 coming out I thought I would hold off. I sure am glad I held out for the Mazda3 to arrive. 2 days with this car and I know I made the right decision. Great Warranty too. The dealership in Hagerstown MD was great to work with as well!

Just got my 3 sport GT with every options except leather, awesome in every points except the ride is a bit stiff to me. I had saturn, vw and Gmc and by far, even if it is the cheapest car i ever bought it is the better. All the wipers thing is very well designed, as well as all the buttons on the steering, to be short, every feature is amazing except the stiff ride and tiptronic transmission which is not as sporty as i would have think.

After owning this car for almost 2 years I have noticed a few things.. First of all when I got the car I assumed that over time the steering and suspension would lose some its tightness and precision. This has not happened. The car handles like it did the day I purchased it. Im still not sure how I paid $20G Canadian and got this level of handling. My own fear stops me in a fast turn. Not the car. Very smooth. Secondly, when I bought it I was worried about the reliability and craftsmanship of Mazda vehicles. So far, only the regular maintenance has been performed. So to wrap this up; 2 years, fun to drive, no problems. Great car!

  • Very close to loving it - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

Mazda did a great job making this car feel quite German on the highway. Its a quality that is very hard to define, but those that have driven good German cars know what Im talking about. This car is composed, quiet, and confident at high speeds. I unfortunately cannot say that I wholeheartedly love it. I have rattles in my doors that the dealership "cant" hear. My brakes sound terrible in the morning, and I think the rear pads stick. At low RPMs the engine sounds like a 20 year old Toyota that hasnt been maintained well. Its not until you push it that it actually sounds nice.

  • Great, inexpensive hatchback option - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

Had it for 2 months now after having a BMW 328 for 3 years. I love the hatchback area and rubber mats. It drives fine although not the power of the 328. Very comfortable and a great low cost alternative for an econo-sport car. If you are expecting 28mpg, forget it. in city driving I get 23mpg, on highway at 80mph, I get about 20mpg. They need to fix this.

  • Almost Perfect - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

Saw it, drove it, bought it. I test drove the 5spd, then the auto (just for grins). The auto was excellent, and the auto-manual mode was great for times when I wanted specific gear control. Car is gorgeous, especially in the super-metallic red. (Edmunds doesnt list the Auto, so I review here.)

  • GRRREAT!!! ;) - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

I TRADED IN MY 2003 PROTEGE 5 FOR THE NEW 2004 4 DOOR MAZDA 3S NICE RIDE;) THE BIGGER ENGINE IS WORTH THE DRIVE&PURCHASE ALONE, NO COMPARISON TO THE PROTEGE 5 OR PROTEGE. IVE DONE ALOT OF WORK BORING OUT THE ENGINE IN THAT CAR!! AND STILL DOESNT COMPARE TO THE 2.3 160 HP BESIDES ALL THE GOODIES YOU GET IN THE S MODEL FOR THE PRICE, IS GRRREAT!!! SPORT SUSPENSION, 17" ALLOY WHEELS, SUNROOF, XENON LIGHTS ETC ITS DEFINATELY WORTH THE PURCHASE!!!

  • Wonderful Car for the Money!! - 2004 Mazda Mazda3

Ive owned the 3s 5-Dr 4AT for about 4 mos now and LOVE IT! Heavily researched competitive & more expensive models & dont regret buying the 3s. Wanted the 6s & when I test drove the 3 I fell in love! I get "what kind of car is that?" and "nice car dude!" all the time! Handles wonderfully, goes where you point it though a little loose at the limits. Bought the 4AT for LA traffic and I sometimes wish it had another gear, but the AT is slick and sure. Gas mileage is avg. at best (21 around town) As a former industrial designer I can say the interior is spot-on though I would like to see more adjustments in the seats. This car is much nicer than its sticker price! Buy one!
