The Mazda 3 is an all-new economy sedan and hatchback that replaces the Protege in Mazda's lineup.
- Fun-to-drive character, stylish interior design, strong engines, hatchback utility.
- Ride might be too stiff for some, a few ergonomic quirks, tight rear legroom.

Nightmare - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
By djfloyd23 - May 11 - 10:00 amThis beautiful new Mazda might as well be a trojan horse of horror in a pretty package. After 3 attempts to fix my car, I had to have it replaced for being a lemon. 4 days after acquiring my replacement I was being towed because my clutch broke. So as hot looking as this new Mazda is& as fun& exciting it is to drive; my question is, how long will the fun last for you?

Worst car Ive ever owned - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
By yagdoogie - June 10 - 4:06 pmReplaced the transmission. Twice. Motor "clicks," my mechanic thought it was going to throw a rod. Six months later, still clicking. Front end needed to be rebuilt at 102k. Roughest running four-cylinder Ive ever seen. Dealer said thats a characteristic of the motor. Hunh.

Its a Canadian Lemon - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
By RT27 - August 14 - 3:16 amBy far the worst example of customer service Ie ever experienced. Car is 9 months old, had a hesitation problem from day 1. Been in the shop 6 times for 23 days, couldnt fix the problem then Mazda said it was normal. I requested a replacement and they refused. Went through arbitration, an independent test was ordered and confirmed my complaint that it doesnt run properly. Mazda Canada was ordered to buy back the car. I wanted to purchase another but Mazda Canada is refusing to lease me another because "theyre all like that and I wouldnt be happy with another" Bull, Ive driven 6 others and they were fine. Mazda wont refund the $450.00 extended warranty!

Beware of Plastic Parts and Oil Filters! - 2004 Mazda Mazda3
By George Bennett - May 5 - 3:26 pmAfter driving a Protege for 10 years and 250,000 miles, the 3 S seemed like a great car until I used a Jiffy Lube and cracked the poorly designed oil cartridge housing on the car. Mazda says tough luck, but has issued a service bulletin, and I believe reverted back to the cannister versus the cartridge oil filter. It is sad to say that such a nice car can be ruined by poor design - but in my case (and from what I hear) the case of several other Mazda 3 s owners, that you will have to pay $60.00 at the dealership to make sure that your engine does not suffer major damages. I believe the 2005 model also has this type of filter so be prepared!
