This Year's Model Updates:

The Sorento is an all-new SUV from Kia. Larger and more powerful than the pint-size Sportage (which is expected to return for 2004 after a 2003 hiatus, by the way), the Sorento straddles the emerging middle ground between small SUVs and midsize SUVs. And it does so while offering interested buyers true off-road ability. Key competitors are the Ford Escape, the Honda CR-V, the Jeep Liberty, the Nissan Xterra and the Toyota Highlander.

Pros:
  • Great value, class-leading warranty coverage, long list of standard features, solid construction, true off-road capability.
Cons:
  • Engine needs more power, subpar fuel economy, seat upholstery could stand improvement.

  • So Far So Good! - 2003 Kia Sorento
    By -

Being a new Kia Sorento owner (2months), I can only state what I know now and so far, so Good! The car is comfortable to ride in and to drive & very smooth ride/ My test drive was on the roughest road around here and it was excellent. The seats are plushy and everything I need is right at hand, the only complaint so far is how close the front seats are to the gearshift and stoarge box. I love my new car and weve noticed how close the front hood looks like the very expensive Lexus around! It is top of the line for safety and the warranty cant be beat.I highly suggest you check this one out.We need to see more Kias on the road! Dgh

I was looking for a 4WD vehicle to deal with the past New England winter. After going through about (5) vehicles I caught a look at the KIA at my friends dealership. Everything about it appealed to me. The contents of the book complimentes the cover. One thing that really appeals to me is that the gas tank fill is on the passenger side. Good for all the Jersey natives.

  • Very Nice SUV - 2003 Kia Sorento

Great suv, fun to drive and loaded. This compares to the Lexus and Acura at a much smaller sticker price.

  • Great vehicle, Poor Gas Mileage - 2003 Kia Sorento

Great styling! Beautiful. I love it! I just wish it got better gas mileage. Many standard features that I wanted... great! Handles like a dream!

  • I love my Sorento!! - 2003 Kia Sorento

After renting a Sorento while on vacation, my husband and I feel in love with it! I have always had Explorers and my husband has a Tahoe. We felt that the ride and handling of the Kia surpassed that of both of our other vehicles, especially my Explorer. Driving through the mountains with another couple, the four of us could not believe how snappy the engine was and how well the vehicle handled the curves. Our friends in the back seat were so comfortable after riding there all day and one has back problems! Also, we noticed that the four of us could easily converse due to the quiet ride. We love SUVs and this is by far the best yet!

  • Sold on Sorento! - 2003 Kia Sorento

This is one great SUV! I traded my Xterra in on one, and when my wife drove it, she decided to trade her Lexus to! Most everyone here has mentioned gas mileage. My Xterra only got 15, and the Lexus was 19. The Sorento is averaging 16 around town. Another review by "Kia 4 Me" summed it up nicely. The better gas milage of the Lexus "saved" us $282 a year over the Sorento (gas here averages $1.91). But at that rate it would take just under 50 years to make up the difference! Thanks for the perspective Kia 4 Me!!!!

  • Sorento review after year 1 - 2003 Kia Sorento

As promised, Im back reviewing the Sorento after the 15000 mile mark, and Im happy to report that the vehicle has performed flawlessly for the past year. Gas milage is holding at 19 overall (see previous post), and at that level, the cost savings averages out to $1100.00 per year over a Highlander and $1300.00 over a Lexus. By the way, I use those two as comparisons as they are the only vehicle close to the class that the Sorento truly competes in. Kia definately has a winner here, and Ill be back at the 30k mark to let you all know how things are going then!

  • Amazing value for money - 2003 Kia Sorento

I bought my sorento 2 weeks ago..I cannot believe how good this vehicle feels, looks and rides for the money..I owned a Suzuki Grand Vitara but the KIA is better by far..I was a bit skeptical before buying it because of the KIA brand but the warranty is amazing and the vehicle feels extremely good in terms of quality..I would definitely recommend it for anybody looking a luxurious and capable off-roader and is not just a brand-seeker.
