This Year's Model Updates:

The Sorento is an all-new SUV from Kia. Larger and more powerful than the pint-size Sportage (which is expected to return for 2004 after a 2003 hiatus, by the way), the Sorento straddles the emerging middle ground between small SUVs and midsize SUVs. And it does so while offering interested buyers true off-road ability. Key competitors are the Ford Escape, the Honda CR-V, the Jeep Liberty, the Nissan Xterra and the Toyota Highlander.

Pros:
  • Great value, class-leading warranty coverage, long list of standard features, solid construction, true off-road capability.
Cons:
  • Engine needs more power, subpar fuel economy, seat upholstery could stand improvement.

I just purchased my Sorento yesterday, so mileage, build quality, etc., cant be judged. However, I traded my 2000 Kia Sportage in for the Sorento (pur. 10/99). I never had any problems, so I think the quality will be good.

I just bought it last night and drove it to work this morning. Great vehicle for the price. I have been looking for a 4X4 for over a year now, and could not find one that would fit my 6 2" frame for the money we could spend. Well this it!!!! Go test drive one, and if you are not serious about getting a vehicle this will make you think twice.

  • My 2003 Kia Sorento Best Car I ever have had. - 2003 Kia Sorento

Minor problems like horn, clock not working. Had to replace the U-joint front and back. Everything else is fine and working. Minor leak in sunroof, was adjusted. Paint on side mirrors came off and the same for the tail hatch. Made out of plastic.

  • Great SUV for the money - 2003 Kia Sorento

Narrowed search to Mazda Tribute, Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, KIA Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe. After driving, narrowed to 2 SUVs. Mazda/Ford rode rough and bad wind/road noise, also couple thousand $ more than rest. After drive Santa Fe and Sorento are best. Wouldnt you know? The choices basically from same company. After looking closely you see they shared some of same components. But, clincher was Santa Fe almost $4000 less than Sorento and that made diffeerence to us this time. However, both great and have reasons for choosing one over other. Bigger engine/flat-folding seats not worth extra 4 Gs so Santa Fe won.

It drives quiet and the driver feels safe behind the wheel

  • Excellent vehicle! - 2003 Kia Sorento

Everything is perfect, except that I hate the massive "Kia" logo on the front. Why did they have to make it so big? Also, the fuel economy is crappy, but about par for many SUVs.

So far Ive enjoyed the Sorento it is the second vehicle Ive ever owned and compared to my last (a truck) it is very comfortable and quiet.Im also impressed with the build quality from the interior to exterior. The only think that is negative is the fuel mileage, which I figured since it weighs as much as a ford explorer it has alot of good metal weigh-which makes me feel really safe driving it-so a little extra change for the gas bill you get a good feeling of security from the vehicle.

  • Great Value for PRICE! - 2003 Kia Sorento

Im planning to get a Sorento by the end of the year, so I test drove a fully loaded 4x2. Very good car as far as could tell in the test drive, great interior /exterior design. The interior was very rich and plush! Very similar to Lexus RX 300 as far as looks but quality will be judged in time. The exterior was very nice and very appealing, it looks in better in person than the internet pictures. Engine could be a bit more powerful but for the price its a great deal! Overall I had a great experience driving this car and I will be the owner of a Sorento very soon.
