This Year's Model Updates:

The Sorento is an all-new SUV from Kia. Larger and more powerful than the pint-size Sportage (which is expected to return for 2004 after a 2003 hiatus, by the way), the Sorento straddles the emerging middle ground between small SUVs and midsize SUVs. And it does so while offering interested buyers true off-road ability. Key competitors are the Ford Escape, the Honda CR-V, the Jeep Liberty, the Nissan Xterra and the Toyota Highlander.

Pros:
  • Great value, class-leading warranty coverage, long list of standard features, solid construction, true off-road capability.
Cons:
  • Engine needs more power, subpar fuel economy, seat upholstery could stand improvement.

  • Something to think about. - 2003 Kia Sorento

Why would I look at a KIA? That was my first reaction when it was suggested. . I started doing some research on the KIA Sorento (of course begining with Edmunds).I couldnt believe all the favorable reviews. I then test drove it and it was very smooth and for the money you pay the features and warranty cant be beat. When the only downside to a vehicle is that its gas mileage is about 10% worse than other models that is not at all much to complain about. if serious about purchasing neg. via the internet and you can usually get your best deal. I got mine that way for $200 over invoice well below even the Edmunds TMV.

  • The verdict is still out... - 2003 Kia Sorento

Had the SUV for a week know. This is my second Sorento...when I bought a 4x2 version I was told that ALL Sorentos came with a limited slip rear. This is not the case! Only 4x4 versions come with the limited slip. Im pleased with the look, power, and standard features. Im a little cautious about the reliability of the vehicle...Ive had the drivers side window stop working...which was fixed by turning off the ignition and restarting. Also have squeaks where the back passenger seats connect to the release for folding down. The clock also runs slow....about 6 minutes over a weeks time. This was a big step for me...my first import. Im really relying on this warranty!

  • Best Vehicle Ive ever owned - 2003 Kia Sorento

I bought my 2003 Kia Sorento 4x4 automatic brand new in 2003. Im the original owner and as of this posting has $120K miles. Ive taken great care of the car. The engine and transmission suspension, steering have been solid as a rock. Ive only had a few issues. It will no longer shift into 4x4, which I think a control module went bad, but it still operates in 4x2 mode. One engine sensor needed replacing the fuel temperature senors which I replaced myself. Other than that it has been the best vehicle Ive ever owned. Its considerably fast for 190 HP, roomy, and feels very safe and controlled in the rain! Get one if you can!

  • Fun SUV! - 2003 Kia Sorento

We downsized from a minivan to this and I have loved everything about it since the minute I sat in it. It looks and drives great. It was a mothers day gift for me, but my husband loves to drive it! He has compared it to other suvs in the same class, and there is no comparison. It drives like a sports car. I get so many comments about it by everyone. Only problems we have encountered is we cant have one window down at a time or it sounds like were in a helicopter. Its also a tight squeeze for a family with 3 kids in car seats, but are able to make it work. Oh another thing - buy the 4 wheel drive. This cutie (we purchased the base model) does not like to drive in snow or ice!

  • Love at first sight. - 2003 Kia Sorento

My Kia Sorento is wonderful, it is equiped with all the necessities to enjoy driving, cruise, power outlets for cell phones, rear hatch, etc.. I test drove a Sorento and fell in love with the SUV. It is stylish and has great manuverability. Furthermore, there is lots of room and cargo space for trips. The backseat can comfortably hold a carseat and two grown adults. Lastly, with the 10 year/ 100,000 mile warrenty how can you go wrong?

  • Sorento Ex - A Pleasant Surprise - 2003 Kia Sorento

My experience with the Sorento was definitely a nice surprise. It handles well, the drive is great. It is like driving a car. The ride is not rugged. I have not had any problems so far. You get a lot of vehicle for the price. This is my 3rd Kia vehicle. Kia has one of the best warranties.

  • Hard on the wallet - 2003 Kia Sorento

Gorgeous on the outside. Useless on the inside. Of the hood, that is. Ran great until I hit 100,000 miles. Since, my power steering, fly wheel, transmission and ac have went out, not to mention a few other minor problems. I will never recommend this vehicle to anyone. I have taken great care of this vehicle, keeping everything up to date and new but it has not returned the favor. It would be nice if the vehicle was as cheap as its quality.

  • Great Car for the $$ - 2003 Kia Sorento

I bought the Sorento for my company car and 227,000 miles later am amazed at how its held up. No its not a Lexus, but with only minor problems in 5 years I am looking to buy another one. I have owned GM, Ford and Toyota cars and this Korean one has been by far the least trouble and the overall best ride. I have recommended it to many who were skeptical when I purchased it!

  • pleasantly surprised. - 2003 Kia Sorento

This Sorrento was a replacement for my previous vehicle. It was used and abused. Previous owner did no maintenance on it. Spent a couple of hours under the hood cleaning MAF sensor, throttle body. Had my buddy replace the oil and all the tires. Not to mention complete brake fluid change( no charge for any of it. For which I am eternally grateful) it now runs like a champ. Roomy , comfortable, fun, and a pleasure to drive. Still needs to have a few little things done. The fact it ran as good as it did considering what wasnt done in it 255,000 miles of service is testament to its build quality. Called KIA about recalls. Booked in same day.
