This Year's Model Updates:

Jeep's Patriot compact crossover SUV enters its second year with a handful of minor changes, including standard air-conditioning, AutoStick manual shifting added to the continuously variable transmission (CVT), reshuffled package content and a few chrome bits to dress up the interior. Limited models can also be equipped with an optional navigation system.

Pros:
  • Affordable pricing, lots of headroom, Jeep styling, above-average off-road ability.
Cons:
  • Performance-robbing CVT, some mediocre interior materials, minimal cargo capacity.

  • Like my Cherokee, but Better Mileage - 2008 Jeep Patriot
    By -

Totaled my beloved 99 Cherokee in a crash that could have killed me, but I walked away from. Wanted another Cherokee, but with better mileage. After reading about everyones complaints regarding power, I test drove a 5-speed manual Patriot. It seems whatever issues people have with lack of acceleration can be blamed on the CV-tranny, not the engine. "But how can I talk on the phone and sip my latte and drive a manual transmission?" You cant. Go buy a Kia. After two months, I am extremely pleased with this car. One of my initial reservations about buying it (it had everything I was looking for for less $) was that I wasnt seeing any on the roads. Seems I am seeing more and more each week.

  • A Move Up As Far As I AM Concerned - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I guess the performance is in the mind of the user. I have owned a Cherokee Sport, a Grand Cherokee Laredo and a Liberty. For value per dollar spent, Ill take the Patriot hands down. I have the 4WD with the CVT and I dont experience the "Performance-robbing" attributes that are described by the reviewer. If jumping on it to merge is your goal, you may want to think about souping up a Neon or Eclipse. I didnt buy any of my Jeeps for their ability to go 0 - 60, thats absurd. I drive them because they are sound and safe vehicles. The ride in my Patriot is smooth as silk and surprisingly quiet. I dont have any problems getting to 70 mph or maintaining it.

  • Realistically the BEST SUV out there - 2008 Jeep Patriot

08 North Edition 4x4 Its fuel economical, you get $1000 back from the Canadian govt under the ecoAUTO Rebate Program for 2007-2008 models (4x2 or 4x4 5spd only)... pretty much the only non-hybrid 4x4 SUV eligible under that program (along with the Compass). It looks rugged and its sharp. It was not love at first sight for me at all, until I decided to buy it because of the great deals that I couldnt resist. Ive always been a fullsize type of guy - was looking at a Dodge Ram 4x4. Its still too new for the engine to break in to get the best fuel mileage and to see its true reliability down the road. But so far, I could not be happier with this Jeep - and I am in love with it.

  • Nice vehicle - 2008 Jeep Patriot

Just bought the Freedom Drive II off- road version a week ago and took it on a camping trip near Moab, Utah. Didnt do any offroading, just rough dirt roads, and the Patriot did great. It got 25-26 mpg on the highways and had no problems cruising at 75 and handling the hills on I-70. We had been using a minivan for these camping trips and were pleasantly surprised that we could pack all that stuff into the Patriot as its a smaller vehicle. We have no complaints about the Patriot and that is saying something for us as we tend to be rather picky about vehicles. So this is now our camping mobile and were very happy with the purchase.

  • Great Purchase - 2008 Jeep Patriot

I have owned my Patriot 9 months and have yet to be disappointed. Its fun, gets great mileage, and is very comfortable. My son is 61" and easily sits in the back seat. Plenty of cargo room in the back. We have taken it on many long trips already. Its great both on trips and around town. I went from a Cherokee to the Patriot. We plan on keeping it for many years. We recommend it to anyone.

Great gas mileage. Fun to drive. Economical payment and gas for $2.99. Whats not to love?

  • I like it - 2008 Jeep Patriot

Im in the military and bought this through the on post car sales and Ive only been driving it about a month and some change. But so far I really enjoy the vehicle like said earlier dosent have a lot of off the line power but it has more HP than the average 4 banger, especially considering the last 4 banger I drove was in 94. Anyway all around I personally think its a great deal and the test drive is what took me to this over the Dodge Nitro. Not as flashy but rides smoother and dosent have a huge parking brake right beside your thigh, thats just my opinion though go test drive it yourself see how you like it versus these reviews

  • My Smartest Buy Ever - 2008 Jeep Patriot
    By -

Just put 10K on my Patriot and love it. The CVT took about 2 weeks to get used to. Now I enjoy the nice smooth ride the CVT offers. I have a Sport model w/ few options, but its a Jeep... Who needs options. The interior is simple but very functional and easy to keep clean. The back seats are large enough for my kids 2 car seats. The back seat floor boards are also very deep! Great for that tall friend riding in the back. The storage in the back is a little small but adequate for day to day use. The fold flat seats are awesome. Great for the random Home Depot runs Ive made. Can you say MPGs!! Averaging 22-25city and 24-27hwy!

  • After 23,000 miles... - 2008 Jeep Patriot
    By -

Love this Jeep!!! After 23,000 miles it drives like new! Im still smiling! Not a single problem since I bought it new - knock on wood. Have had bmw, benz, jag before so first American vehicle and very surprised and amazed. This Jeep does have some engineering from Benz though which is a bonus! I believe this is the lightest CUV out there and handles beautifully around corners. Salesman said there is not much get up and go from start, only highway speeds was great but I found out both to be great! The lightweight really comes through here and CVT tranny does a great job at keeping shifts very smooth. Dynamics of vehicle is very balanced. Outside size is deceiving to how roomy it is inside.

  • Update- 122k, still no non wear repairs - 2008 Jeep Patriot
    By -

I wrote a review about my Patriot at 60k, only repair then was a light bulb. Since then I have 122k and have only had to replace wear items. Just did a new clutch at 122k, did rear brakes at 110k and front at 120k. My hope is the next clutch goes longer, I live in Minnesota and when I replaced the stock Goodyears with Michelins my snow performance went to ****, I have two wheel drive and did put some snow tires on (Kumhos), and that has worked out well. Point is I think I did a lot of damage to my clutch trying to get out of stuff without snow tires.
