This Year's Model Updates:

The 2008 Jeep Liberty has been fully redesigned. It remains true to its off-road heritage with two different four-wheel-drive systems to choose from, but much attention has been paid to improve on-road ride and handling characteristics via revised suspension and steering systems. Redesigned sheet metal projects an even more rugged Jeep persona, while inside there's more room, more creature comforts and an available new power Sky Slider open-air canvas roof. As with all new Chrysler products, this year's Liberty is also covered by a new limited lifetime powertrain warranty.

Pros:
  • Respectable off-road capability, simple and functional cabin, high towing capacity.
Cons:
  • Modest and thirsty V6 engine, poor headlight illumination, subpar interior materials, upgraded ride and handling still not as carlike as many rivals.

  • Everything is great except the engine - 2008 Jeep Liberty

Ive had my Liberty Sport now for about 3 months. I was first drawn to its rugged good looks and 4x4 reputation. I have to say it the interior is extremely comfortable and the seats are very supportive. Acceleration from a stop is very good, but highway passing... forget it. The V6 feels so sluggish that you have to jam your foot on the gas pedal to get the transmission to downshift into 3rd gear. Everything on this Jeep is great, but they should have revamped the engine and transmission instead of using the version from the old Liberty.

  • Almost bought something else - 2008 Jeep Liberty

Having had the 2004 Liberty and hating it since 2 days after delivery, I was a bit skeptical about the 2008 model. However, a test drive changed my mind. I was quite surprised at the additional room as the specs dont really convey real world use. Who thinks in cubic feet? My 63" partner is comfortable in the driver and passenger seats. The ride is definitely improved and the styling is great. The vehicle feels a lot more solid. My only regret is not getting the Limited model as I really miss the electronic seats and the EVIC. Also, ignore professional reviewers who insist on comparing it to crossovers. Thats not the same category!

  • 1 big disappointment, sky slider roof - 2008 Jeep Liberty
    By -

When I first seen my liberty on the lot, I had to have it. I loved the looks. Even though it was totally loaded, it didnt need to be. I just wanted the style, so I got it. One of the many features was the sky slider roof. I wasnt interested in the roof style, but it came with the car. What they didnt bother telling me at the dealership is that when you travel at a faster speed limit, like 70-75 on the turnpike or I-95 the roof leaks air so loud you cant hear the radio or hear yourself or anyone talking! Sometimes its not as loud but is still irritating. Not looking forward to a long driving trip with my new Jeep!

This is by far an excellent ride. My previous vehicle was also a Liberty and what a difference. The 08 Liberty has much more room and also sits higher. Its a more stable, smooth ride and handles well in the snow even when its not in 4X4. The rear and front seat fold flat. The previous Liberty did not and also the front seats had to be pushed all the way forward in order for the seats to fold down. That is not the case with the 08 Liberty.

  • Great snow/bad weather vehicle - 2008 Jeep Liberty
    By -

I traded my Dodge Ram 4x4 in on this vehicle and I am very happy with my trade. We just got 11 inches of snow on Thursday and I live in a very rural location with a 600 gravel drive on a very steep incline. The vehicle did a fantastic job with only the all weather tires that came standard! I love the interior and the way the vehicle handles. Have not really checked the mileage yet, nor do I know how reliable the vehicle the will be, but I have owned 4x4s from Wranglers to Chevy and Dodge trucks and this one is just as good for on road snow driving!

  • Should Have Done it Sooner! - 2008 Jeep Liberty

I had a Suburban that had close to 200k. I had been looking for something smaller, yet could tow 3000 lbs. I was really not considering Jeep. I went to the dealer on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by the Liberty. I have towed 3500 with it so far, and it is smoother that the Suburban! It will seat five average perosns comfortably.

  • Home Run - 2008 Jeep Liberty
    By -

Jeep hit a home run with the redesign of the Liberty. This is my 4th Jeep (99 Cherokee, 04 Liberty, 07 Wrangler Unlimited, 08 Liberty) and the best yet! The best on-road ride for an off-road SUV. The engine is sluggish on the on-ramp, but ample everywhere else. Tons of unexpected bells and whistles too. Sky-Slider Roof, Sirius Radio, UConnect, MyGig, etc... Very smart with the nooks and crannies too. The cargo area is adequate and smart. The console and glove compartment are quite large. Soft supple leather, heated seats...I am still finding new things every day. Back to the Sky-Slider Roof...Its like driving a comfortable Wrangler Unlimited at the touch of a button. Shall I go on?

  • Jeep Jeep! - 2008 Jeep Liberty

PROS: The 08 redesign was MUCH needed. VERY comfortable and fun to drive. Feels solid like a tank on the highway. Suspension is remarkable. TONS of storage room, compartments for all your shtuff, the radio sounds like a dream, feels powerful and strong yet safe like an American vehicle should! CONS: Gas mileage isnt very good, but it has a very big gas tank so you dont need to refill as often. Also not very good at making quick sharp turns, feels like its gonna flip.

  • 1000 miles and climbing - 2008 Jeep Liberty
    By -

This is my second jeep liberty. First was 05 Liberty Diesel. The best way I can describe the difference is that in 08 they have taken the "Jeep" out of this model. It is completely different. It rides more car like and tracts on the highway much better. The ride is smooth and quiet! This makes for more comfort, but it is at the expense of less feed back when 4 wheeling off the road. I use mine for both 1 - 2 hour trips and then short drives off road on almost a daily basis. This model fines a fair balance between on road and off road. So far gas mileage has been a little better than expected. 18 average and as high as 24 on the highway.

  • Liberty Limited - 2008 Jeep Liberty

Compared to other small Utes, the Liberty Limited has them beat. Little things, such as: Memory Seating, easy exit, remote start. Put this rig above the rest. The V-6 is lack-luster and it doesnt get great mileage in town, but I got 23 MPG on a 2000 mile trip. The seats are very comfortable and even though the foot wells seem crowded, there is plenty of room and Im a big Norwegian. I had a 4x4 Escape before and thought that was a great car, but the features, such as: 4 wheel disk brakes and real 4x4 put he Escape to shame. The Jeep didnt even cost any more than the Ford. It rides well and runs great. Looks good too!
